Sacraments
St. Kilian Parish is a Catholic community of faith responding to the call of Jesus Christ through the proclamation of Scripture, the celebration of Eucharist, and in living the sacramental life of the Church. We are committed to responding to each other through communities and ministries of faith and love, addressing our spiritual, social and educational needs.. We believe that each of us is called to be a supportive, compassionate, and caring Christian witness in Mission Viejo, the Diocese of Orange and in the world.

WORLD WORLD MISSION MISSION SUNDAYSUNDAY
Page 2 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, VIELEN DANK UND HERZLICHEN GLÜCKWUNSCH! Many thanks and hearty congratulations to all for a wonderful Oktoberfest, the first we have been able to celebrate since we began construction and, of course, the first in our new facilities. The whole weekend went off beautifully, which is testimony to the great preparation and planning of the organizing team. Since it has been a few years since we’ve held Oktoberfest, we might have been just a bit rusty, and for certain we encountered a few minor glitches, but given the fact that we were working in an entirely new environment, the consensus was that things went very well. Now that we’ve got this one under our belt, we can go back and review the event, evaluate what worked and what didn’t and start making plans for next year.
The bulk of the work fell to our organizers, but I also need to thank all our volunteers who helped us through-out the weekend in the food and game booths, the entertainment, and the setup, maintenance and teardown. It was a delightful and long overdue chance to celebrate parish, family and community. Several people men-tioned to me that they thought it was our best Oktoberfest ever.
If there was one area that lagged a bit, it was getting enough volunteers to help out throughout the weekend. Because we were somewhat shorthanded, some dedicated folks put in long shifts, which we hope to minimize next year with improved communications and preplanning. I’m confident that now that we’re back in opera-tion, we will be able to get the necessary crews together so that many hands can make light work for all. Thanks again to all who had a hand in making it a success.
PRAY FOR OUR PRIESTS Next Sunday, the Church observes a special day to pray for our priests and affirm their vocation and ministry. As you do, please also remember in a special way all our retired priests who have faithfully helped out in the parish for so long, Msgr. Larry Gibson, Msgr. John Campbell, Father Jerry Walker, Father Chrysostom, Fr. Jim Dunning and Father Willie McKettrich. For those who don’t know, Msgr. Gibson recently underwent surgery to remove a kidney and is currently recuperating. Please pray for his speedy and full recovery. I know he appreciates the prayers and good wishes, and he is anxious to get back to our parish as soon as possi-ble.

PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY
Next Sunday, October 26th is Priesthood Sunday: a special day set aside to honor the Priesthood in the United States. It is a day to reflect and affirm the central role of Priesthood in the life of the Church.
Please participate in an opportunity to affirm our own Parish Priests: Father Bruce Patterson and Father Paul Vu, by writing each a simple note.
Example thoughts for the note:
1. Thank our priests for their dedication, generosity, and leadership in our church.
2. State at least one way our priests personally enrich your life and thank them.
3. Prepare a spiritual bouquet with prayers, rosaries that you will say, or have a Mass and prayers said for our priests.
On October 26, give your note and /or spiritual bouquet to the priest or leave it at the Parish Center or in the
collection basket. Thank you.

PENNIES FROM HEAVEN Diocese of Orange
20th Annual Pennies from Heaven
October is Respect Life Month!
The St. Kilian Campaign is done in conjunction with Serra Catholic School and in past years raised over $17,000. Help us raise even more this year and beat last year’s Diocesan total of $240,786.85. This year proceeds benefit The Birth Choice clinics (including the Mission Viejo location), Mary’s Shelter, Casa Teresa, Vietnamese Hot Line, Life Centers and Precious Life Shelter.
Visit www.lifejusticepeace.org/penniesfromheaven to learn more or to donate electronically.
BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY
The Bereavement Ministry supports parishioners who are grieving after the loss of a loved one. This includes assistance with the funeral liturgy, vigil and rosary service and follow-up as a resource for referral to grief support groups within our community. In addition, members plan and participate in the annual Memorial Mass in November. If you are interested in participating in this ministry and would like more specific details, please contact the Parish Center or Betty Porche @ 949/586-5837. The Bereavement Ministry will be speaking at Mass this weekend and will be available after Mass at tables outside for any questions.
