The Colegio Ibero was founded in the year 1990 by Adriana H. Munoz and Laura Elena Holguin with one primary objective: to bring bilingual education of the highest caliber to Cd. Juarez, Mexico.

The school began in a modest building which was outfitted to serve as a school. The first class consisted of only 12 kindergarten students, but the idea resonated and after one year, The Colegio had to find a new and larger home, this time with over 50 students enrolled in its programs. For the next two years demand for a high quality bilingual education outpaced supply, and so in 1994, The Colegio Ibero found its first permanent location. This building had sixteen classrooms, a gym, a play ground area, science laboratories, a small cafeteria and a daycare.

The program was so successful, even through the crippling economic crisis that Mexico suffered in the 1990’s, that The Colegio Ibero was able to open a new and larger location. In 2002, the building which currently houses ourmain campus was built in the most desirable part of the city. The property has an extension of four acres; the building is equipped with an energy efficient artificial climate system, closed circuit security systems, and point of entry card readers to restrict access tounauthorized persons.

Our students now enjoy full use of a modern building having over twenty classrooms, a

well equipped sciences laboratory, a music and theatre hall, a computer science laboratory, playground areas, a soccer field, a Tae-Kwon-Do gym, basketball courts, a gymnastics facility and beautiful gardens.

The objective of Ibero Academy’s bilingual and multicultural program is the student’s development of the knowledge and abilities necessary to achieve full fluency in the English and Spanish languages. The program also lays the foundations for future study of diverse cultures and their languages, specifically Mandarin Chinese, which we proudly offer from Preschool.

Acquiring and mastering any language requires time, practice and careful study. Ibero Academy’s Bilingual Program is characterized by the amount of time and effort that is dedicated to the development of activities in which students can practice and gain confidence.

Ibero Academy meets all requirements set by the State of Texas. In addition, we offer a diverse menu of programs in areas like English Language and Literature, the Humanities, the Natural Sciences, New Technologies, Physical Education, Music and the Arts.

Students learn both English and Spanish natively from the youngest age. Ibero Academy’s unique curriculum provides for an authentic linguistic immersion for the student, who develops the ability to perform in class, complete assignments, and communicate fluently with teachers and classmates in both languages and across subjects.

This Bilingual and Multicultural education is guided by highly specialized teachers and constitutes a clear differentiating factor between Ibero Academy and other schools in the region.

Bilingual and Multicultural Program

Preschool DivisionIbero Academy’s Preschool Division applies an active methodology designed to develop the child’s cognitive capacities and ensure his or her adequate socialization.

Our method encourages the development of knowledge through experience, games, and early stimulus. We use the visual, manual, and auditory mediums as part of an integrated paradigm that encourages the child to learn by doing and thereby to satisfy his natural curiosity.

Early education is structured atop several fundamental pillars. These include: habits,

psychomotor skills, cognitive development, reading and writing, and the development of linguistic skills in both Spanish and English.

Our teaching staff employs a curriculum, called the Integrated Development Program, which we have designed for the development of abilities, competencies, values, and attitudes.

As educators, we understand that Preschool is the most important stage in a child’s education because it constitutes the foundation for all further learning. Ibero Academy is passionate about early education and committed to delivering it in a highly professional manner.

As the student advances in his or her academic development, and especially during his or her elementary education, the humanities and the natural sciences acquire fundamental importance. Through these disciplines the student becomes intellectually, emotionally, and socially mature, which allows him or her to acquire broad knowledge and develop a critical spirit. Success at this stage disposes the student to success at all later stages.

The student learns to express him or herself in a coherent manner, forming and defending his or her own thoughts with clarity. By interpreting the surrounding world he or she develops attitudes such as precision, thoroughness, and openness to new ideas. Special attention is paid to the development of values such as autonomy, responsibility, and respect for one’s surroundings.

From the earliest age students at Ibero Academy learn to think of science as an accessible and interesting discipline. We use a modern and highly engaging curriculum, full of both practical activities and highlighting each discipline’s social, philosophical, and cultural aspects.

Elementary DivisionElementary education is a qualitative jump for students graduating from kinder because they must engage with new subjects and disciplines in a more academic environment.

We have endeavored to make this stage as rich and varied as possible, deepening both the student’s immersion in the Bilingual Program and the rigor and breadth with which techniques and knowledge are transmitted and acquired so that the student is prepared to reach his or her goals.

At this stage the focus lies in the development of abilities and techniques with which the student can efficiently communicate, think logically, and learn about his social and natural environments.

Music and the arts are, above all, communication and expression. Therefore they are extremely important in the education and development of the human being. Ibero Academy uses these disciplines to foster the student’s enjoyment of beauty and harmony. Moreover, students discover and develop their entrepreneurial spirit and investigative faculties.

From preschool onward our students are introduced to a panoply of different scenarios. Events, projects, and activities allow the student to continually develop their psychomotor skills and creative sensibilities. Students are further enriched by sharing in these activities with their friends and family.

At Ibero Academy, enrichment through art is an important pedagogical tool and is used from an early age. Artistic and creative activities help to reveal the essence of our human condition.

The dynamic at Ibero Academy makes it possible for its students to enjoy creating and know the value and significance of creative endeavors.

Athletics are an integral part of a student’s development at Ibero Academy. The practice and enjoyment of a sport goes beyond the acquisition of competency. In particular, sports infuse healthy habits, perseverance, team-work, and self-esteem in students. Students may pursue a sport either as part of their physical development or competitively, depending on their age.

Moreover, students have at their disposal a

Uniforms

This is a list of the attitudes that we intend for all members of the Ibero Community to embody. Members of the Ibero Community include: parents, students, teachers, coordinators, administrators, and staff.

The purpose of these principles is to establish an environment of respect in which all members of the community may feel comfortable and capable of attending to their responsibilities.

This is not a set of rules. Failure to follow any of these principles will not result in direct negative consequences. However, if every member of the community participates in these principles we will be on our way to creating a true community capable of fostering integral development, and it will be easier for our students to reach fulfillment and happiness. Everyone benefits when someone lives well.

Grades are based on daily work, class participation, homework, quizzes, tests, special projects and presentations.

The opportunity to develop a strong and stable character can only exist in an atmosphere of positive discipline. At Ibero Academy we are convinced that the most effective rules allow the student to become conscious of his or her acts, responsibilities, and attitudes.

Acts become experiences that provide an excellent opportunity for students to discover and recognize the consequences of his or her actions.

Ibero Academy’s rules are founded on an education in freedom, where each child learns to make him or herself responsible for the order, cleanliness, and discipline of his or her life and, by extension, of his or her home, community, and school.

To achieve these objectives it is necessary to create a program that attends to all needs and is enforced by all. Our program is an intentional and systematic effort to identify and promote those values and virtues that are fundamental to the development of good character and a well-defined personality committed to self-discovery.

We understand that discipline is only part of the equation. At Ibero Academy we strive to create situations in which our students can learn these rules in an environment that is

both consistent and firm, but full of respect.

In the sections that follow we will lay out the rules that we expect students will observe as members of our community. It is important to keep in mind that breaking any of these rules may result in the student receiving a warning or a disciplinary sanction, depending on the severity of the offense. A student may be suspended or expelled for particularly serious incidents without prior warnings or sanctions.

General RulesThe purpose of this manual is to outline and enforce the rules that must be followed in an environment of respect among all members of our educational community.

By “discipline”, we mean the positive conduct that must be observed to gain from a learning environment. The end result of discipline is not only that the student has learned, but that all people involved have had their expectations met.

Within the ClassroomAll students are responsible for interacting with teachers and other students in a respectful manner. Each student must be committed to fostering a positive learning environment for him or herself and for his or her classmates.

For this reason: All students must use appropriatelanguage when addressingclassmates, teachers, or any personthat is visiting the classroom.Students should raise their handwhen they wish to speak. Shouting,waving, or other exaggeratedgesturing is prohibited. The criticizing, pressuring, orbullying of any classmate isprohibited. All students have the right and theliberty to express their ideas,thoughts and opinions in arespectful and orderly manner. Students must remain within theclassroom and wait for their teacherat all times. Students must pay attention to theirteacher’s explanations andclassmates’ comments.Students must finish their work inthe time and in the manner assignedby the teacher.

The teacher is responsible for order, cleanliness, and discipline with the assistance of his or her students. For this reason:

All students must keep their work area,cubby, backpacks, etc, clean and orderly. Students should avoid consuming food,beverages, candies, or other snacksduring class.

Horseplay, or any form of disorderly play,is prohibited within the classroom.Students are responsible for keeping theirclassroom clean and in good condition.

Common AreasStudents may not enter the computerlaboratory or offices with food orbeverages. Students must conduct themselvesrespectfully in all common areas.

Extended SpacesBy “extended spaces” we understand all spaces where students of Ibero Academy participate in an official manner. These include: school trips, field trips, excursions, tournaments, or sports exhibitions.

Students are required to observe the samerules that apply on school grounds. The teacher(s) or coach(es) in attendance have authority to apply the same sanctions that they could apply if the event taking place at Ibero Academy.

Student Code of Conduct Students may complain if they feelthat they have been treated unjustly orbeen harmed by any member of the Iberocommunity.Students should approach their section coordinators, prefects, or administratorswith their complaints.

Stealing, cheating, plagiarizing anddestroying property are consideredserious offenses.Students of the opposite gender must respect each other and avoidinappropriate physical contact.Students must avoid physical, verbal, orpsychological acts that may hurt another.Bullying, criticizing, or making fun ofanother student is considered a serious offense. Participating in any fight within schoolgrounds or extended spaces, stealing,deploying stink bombs, ink bombs orother dangerous artifacts, disrespectingteachers, students, or parents, anddestroying property are all considered serious offenses.Students may not consume alcohol orany drug on school grounds or enterIbero Academy if he or she has consumed alcohol or any drug.

Cell Phones, New Technologies,and Other Items

Students may not use electronicmediums to access information containing pornographic, violent, or other inappropriate themes.Students are not allowed to access socialmedia during school hours using cellphones or other electronic mediums.Cell Phones in Elementary andPreschool: Students may not use cellphones under any circumstances. Students may not introduce hats,

sunglasses, jewelry, cell phones, electronic, games, iPods, mp3 players, video cameras, photo cameras, playing cards, games of chance, weapons of any type, toys of any type, and any other item that is not specifically designed as alearning material within school groundsat any time.

Punctuality and AttendanceStudents must arrive at their classes andother activities on time.Students that arrive more than ten (10)minutes late will not be allowed in class. An exception to the rule above may begranted when parents contact the teacher or coordinator that they will be tardy at least one day in advance. There are no excused absences, but students may be absent as follows:Toddlers, K3 and K4: 6 days per year.Kinder and Elementary: 5 days per year.

Academic StandardsStudents are responsible for turning intheir classwork, homework, and projectson time. Failure to do so may, at theteacher’s discretion, lead to a disciplinarysanction in addition to a lower grade. Students are responsible for bringing allmaterials, books, and other items neededto complete their school related workand activities. Failure to do so may, at theteacher’s discretion, lead to a disciplinarysanction in addition to a lower grade.Each student is responsible for takingproper care of his or her personal items,uniform, laboratory materials, backpack,

shoes, and other objects in his possession.Students are not allowed to receive (andparents should refrain from delivering)forgotten materials, school work, or otheritems during class time. The classroom area is for the exclusiveuse of students, teachers, and staff.If parents wish to discuss any matterrelating to their child they should requesta meeting with the section coordinator oran administrator.

Personal AppearanceStudents should be clean and presentable every day. They must observe the following:

Boys Of all grade levels, hair brushed, natural (face exposed).No piercings.

No tattoos. No hair colors.Nails clipped.

GirlsOf all grade levels, hair brushed, natural(face exposed).No piercings. No tattoos.No makeup.No hair colors.Nails clipped.

Students that fail to observe these rules will receive a disciplinary sanction. Moreover, they will be required to comply immediately.

Students arriving at Ibero Academy without a full uniform, as prescribed herein, shall be subject to a disciplinary sanction.

Disciplinary Report(Orange Slip)A student may receive a Disciplinary Report when his or her conduct does not comply with the rules set forth herein. Warnings are delivered in the form of an orange slip. On the third warning, the student will stay after school for 30 minutes doing extra work. A student receiving three (3) Disciplinary Reports will, upon a further violation, receive a suspension report.

Suspension Report (Green Slip)A Suspension Report may be issued without a student having incurred prior sanctions if the Disciplinary Committee so determines. The decision will be based on the nature and gravity of the violation.

A Suspension Report prohibits the student from attending classes and extra-curricular activities for one (1) to three (3) days. Homework, tests, projects, and other school

work that would be turned in during this time will not be accepted for credit, but must still be turned into the teacher. If such work is not turned in, the teacher may, at his or her discretion, decide not to accept work assigned for the period ranging from the day after the suspension to the end of the current section.

Upon the issuance of a Suspension Report, parents are convened to a meeting where the reason for the suspension is explained and the form is signed and placed in the student’s record. The student and his or her parents are encouraged to visit with a therapist or psychologist to explore the incident. A student receiving three (3) Suspension Reports will, upon a further violation, be expelled if the Disciplinary Committee so determines.

Principal´s Disciplinary Report (Yellow Slip)A Principal´s Disciplinary Report may be issued without a student having incurred prior sanctions if the Disciplinary Committee so determines. The decision will be based on the nature and gravity of the violation.

Upon the issuance of a Principal´s Disciplinary Report, parents are convened to a meeting where the reason for the report is explained and the form is signed and placed in the student’s record. The student and his or her parents are encouraged to visit with a therapist or psychologist to explore the incident. It will be the parent´s responsibility to pay for any damage to the property of the school that the student might have incurred.

Upon obtaining three (3) Principal´s Disciplinary Reports, the student will be ineligible to receive a Certificate of Good Conduct at the end of the school year and, he or she will upon committing a further violation of any type, be permanently expelled.

Permanent ExpulsionA student may be permanently expelled without having incurred prior sanctions if the Disciplinary Committee so determines. The decision will be based on the nature and gravity of the violation. Students on probationary status may be permanently expelled for any violation of these rules.

HolidaysHolidays will be marked in the Monthly Calendar published at www.iberoacademy.com. These are determined by the El Paso Independent School District. Ibero Academy recognizes both traditional American holidays such as Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Memorial Day as well as observances from other cultures, with parties and educational presentations.

BirthdaysParents that wish to celebrate their child’s birthday at school may bring individual pastries (e.g. cupcakes, cookies) and drinks. The celebration will take place during recess. Please let your child’s teacher know at least three days in advance. If you wish to send invitations for a party outside of school, we ask that you invite all of your child’s classmates.

SnacksStudents may bring fruit, vegetables, or other nutritious food items to consume as snacks during recess. Junk food is not allowed, except for Fridays when students may bring whatever food item they wish and the cafeteria offers all types of foods and snacks. Students that stay after school may eat at the cafeteria or bring their own food. We ask that parents pack lunches that do not require heating or refrigeration.

Pick Up and Drop OffStudents must be dropped off at the front door ten minutes before class starts. They may be picked up at the same location. We ask that parents stay in their car. If you wish to discuss any matter, please request a meeting with the person responsible for that area.

TrafficUpon entering school grounds we ask that you drive carefully and observe all traffic signs. Students must travel in the backseat and wear seat belts.

Extended Day Extended day hours are from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Students remaining in Extended Day care are returned to their parents inside of the school. Parents must pick up and sign for their child.

CafeteriaWe offer two options, daily cafeteria meals or ten (10) meals that you can use as you like; our menu includes healthy food options.

Club House Activities.Twice a week for one hour.

Tuition and Fees

The tuition payment program consists of ten (10) monthly payments from August to May. Payments must be tendered within the first five days of each month. Late payments will incur an extra fee.

If payment has not been tendered by the last day of the month, the student may be suspended. The due date will be adjusted

from time to time to account for holidays and school breaks and this will be reflected on the monthly calendar. It is our policy to maintain the monthly sums due at a constant level throughout the school year. In case of severe macroeconomic instability requiring rebalancing, we may adjust fees to better reflect the present circumstances.
