Dear parents and carers, staff, students and community members, Semester 2 Reports Student reports will be sent home via email to parent/guardians at the beginning of Week 10. Please make an appointment with your child’s teacher during week 10 if your child’s report recommends an interview or you wish to discuss your child’s progress or achievement. Please remember that the emailed Report Link is only valid for 2 weeks, you must download and save your child's report or print it out before it expires. Please be mindful of the following grade explanations when reading your child's report. A Excellent The student demonstrates excellent achievement of what is expected for this year level. B Good The student demonstrates high achievement of what is expected for this year level. C Satisfactory The student demonstrates satisfactory achievement of what is expected for this year level. D Limited The student demonstrates limited achievement of what is expected for this year level. E Very Low The student demonstrates very low achievement of what is expected for this year level. Please be mindful that reporting grades for Phys Ed, Music, Visual Arts and Japanese are reflective of the specialists teachers’ contact with your child for one hour a week. At times this can make it difficult for the teachers to accurately assess the children’s capacity to demonstrate their achievements especially if they were absent during their weekly lessons. A School Position Report provides parents/carers with information that clearly shows your child’s achievement in the subjects studied compared to that of other children in the child’s peer group at Little Grove Primary School. This information shows you the number of students in each of the achievement levels A-E. If you would like a copy of this additional report, please contact the Office and request the additional School Position Report by 9am on Friday 8 December 2017. Christmas Hampers

The school would like to thank Harvey Norman, Albany for their very generous donation of equipment to the new BRUV Program that we will be running at Little Grove Primary School. The BRUV (Baited Remote Underwater Video) Program is being co-ordinated by Mr Davies in collaboration with UWA and Department of Prima-ry Industries and Regional Development (previously Department of Fisheries). The program will identify local marine species and collect data that will be available and used world-wide. The process involves the use of underwater cameras set on a baited station in the harbour (most likely at Rushy Point). The station is left for a certain length of time, then students will view the footage and record species, numbers and other data, like time of day, temperature, tide and other environmental conditions. This is a great way for our school to become more involved with our local environment whilst learning valuable hands on science skills. This fabulous donation of a GoPro Hero, Underwater Action Camera, External Hardrive and SD Cards from Harvey Norman will allow us to commence trials of the program before it starts in earnest in 2018.

We will once again be participating in collecting for the Salvation Army Christmas appeal. Each class has a collection box for donations of Christmas items, food and toys which they will present to the Salvation Army at our Assembly on 7 December 2017. This is a great way for children to participate in the true meaning of Christmas and show compassion and understanding of those less fortunate. With only one week to go we hope you are able to choose something to add to your class Christmas

Please let the office know if your child will not be attending Little Grove Primary School next year. A phone call, short email or sms message will do. This information is important as it is used to gauge expected student numbers, class sizes and funding allocation.

Are you attending Little Grove Primary School next year ?

Wow, what a great effort by all those Year 5 students who nominated for Student Leader 2018. Students presented their campaign speech to their audience of Year 3 to Year 6’s on Monday this week. Each and every student did an amazing job with their presentation, from their speech content to speaking clearly for everyone to hear. Congratulations to everyone for putting yourself out their, giving it a go and being Open to Learning. From our 17 nominees, 8 students were voted by their peers to be our Student Leaders in 2018. These students will be acknowledge at the Student Leader Handover Ceremony to be held next Thursday at the 9am Christmas Assembly.

Student Leader Speeches and Elections

If you have medical confirmation that your child has a medical condition that is contagious please promptly advise the school office.

As students and teachers are working in such close confines on a daily basis, contagions spread quickly through the school community. It is advantageous if people are aware of symptoms to watch out for. All student medical information is confidential and no child will be named if we are required to advise the school community.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Little Grove Primary School has just become the proud recipient of an International Eco-Schools Bronze Award.

A huge congratulations to Mrs Dawson and our student Eco -Schools Team for all their fabulous work, planning and guidance that has earned the school this prestigious award.

LGPS 2017 Eco Schools Team : Zachary, Nathan, Ava, Jarrah, Ollie, Matt, Tom, Troy, Seren,

Mackenzie, Declan, Sammi, Finn and Sally The Eco-Schools program is run in 51,000 schools in 67 countries across the world. The programs focus is to - ‘Ensure young people have power to be the change for sustainability that our world needs by engaging them in fun, action-orientated and socially responsible learning.’ Each School follows a seven step change process and empowers their young people to lead processes and actions wherever they can.

Our award came with a citation stating that “Little Grove’s approach to Step 3 ‘Action Plan’ is particularly strong. The team set a thorough, but achievable action plan. Focused on energy reduction. Collecting da-ta, meeting fortnightly to evaluate progress is excellent and as a result, the action plan has been achieved.” We were also commended on “Step 6 “Inform and Involve’ is also very strong in Little Groves approach to the framework. The eco-committee has achieved a high level of awareness and enthusiasm from the rest of the school and community for the new waste initiatives, and for the Eco Schools program in general. The students have taken the lead by presenting their findings on the issues to other classes, great work.”

This is truly a huge achievement following a lot of effort.

Next year the school will aim and endeavour to secure an Eco-Schools Silver Award ! - we hope that the community embraces the sustainability initiatives and practices that the school has put into place.
