Birth Weight (BW) - Actual birth weight.

Adjusted 205 Day Weaning Weight (AWW) - Standard weaning

weight adjusted for age of dam.

Expected Progeny Difference (EPD) is the prediction of how

future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative

to the progeny of other animals listed in the respective breed’s

database. EPDs listed in this catalog were obtained from the

breed associations, and they are expressed in units of measure

for the trait, plus or minus. Interim EPDs may appear on young

animals when their performance has yet to be incorporated into

the National Cattle Evaluation (NCE) procedures. This EPD

will be preceded by an "I" and may or may not include the

animal's own performance record for a particular trait,

depending on its availability, appropriate contemporary

grouping, or data edits needed for NCE. Please keep in mind

that EPDs can change each time breed associations update

their data. EPDs should not be used to compare bulls of

different breeds.

Birth, Weaning, Yearling and Milk EPDs are expressed in

pounds of calf. Differences in EPDs between two bulls within

the same breed indicate the expected difference between their

calves. A bull with a weaning weight EPD of +40 would be

expected to produce calves that averaged 10 pounds heavier at

weaning compared to calves produced by a bull of the same

breed with a +30 weaning weight EPD. The same is true for

birth and yearling EPDs. Milk EPDs are an indication of the

added weight at weaning of a bull’s daughter’s calves due to the

bull’s transmission of milking ability.

Calving Ease Direct (CED) is expressed as a difference in

percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating

greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average

difference in ease with which a sire's calves will be born when he

is bred to first-calf heifers.

Birth Weight (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a

sire's ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared

to that of other sires.

Weaning Weight (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of

a sire's ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny

compared to that of other sires.

Yearling Weight (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a

sire's ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny


Scrotal Circumference (SC), expressed in centimeters, is a

predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size


Maternal Milk (MILK) is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for

milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters

compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that

part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and

mothering ability.

Carcass Weight (CW), expressed in pounds is a predictor of the

differences in hot carcass weight of a sire's progeny compared to

progeny of other sires.

Marbling (MARB), expressed as a fraction of the difference in

USDA marbling score of a sire's progeny compared to progeny

of other sires.

Ribeye Area (RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of

the difference in ribeye area of a sire's progeny compared to


Fat Thickness (FAT), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the

differences in external fat thickness at the 12th rib (as measured

between the 12th and 13th ribs) of a sire's progeny compared to


$Value Indexes are multi-trait selection indexes, expressed in

dollars per head, to assist beef producers by adding simplicity

to genetic selection decisions. The $Value is an estimate of how

future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, on average,

compared to progeny of other sires in the database if the sires

were randomly mated to cows and if calves were exposed to the

same environment.

Weaned Calf Value ($W), an index value expressed in dollars

per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny

performance for preweaning merit. $W includes both revenue

and cost adjustments associated with differences in birth

weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk, and mature cow

size.

Beef Value ($B), an index value expressed in dollars per head,

is the expected average difference in future progeny

performance for postweaning and carcass value compared to

Registered Angus Open Heifer Proceeds going to the University of Georgia Block and Bridle Club

The UGA Block and Bridle Club is an Animal Science Club promoting a higher

scholastic standard and more complete understanding of animal science among

its student members. For many decades, the Block and Bridle Club has been

extremely active on campus and produces several events annually. It is a group

of passionate students whose goal is to promote the agriculture industry state-

wide to all walks of life. In order to accomplish this goal, the club hosts various

events including livestock shows, fundraisers, student development events,

collaborative events with other clubs and organizations, and the Great Southland

Stampede Rodeo.

Due to Covid-19, the 2021 Great Southland Stampede Rodeo is being cancelled.

The money generated by the sale of this heifer will go towards replacing the funds

normally derived through this event.

In future years, students will gain experience in cattle sales and marketing

through their work on the UGA Focus on Genetically Enhanced EPDs Sale in

lieu of hosting the rodeo.

and calling it the Focus on Genetically Enhanced EPDs Bull Sale, as

improvements in genetic tools have greatly enhanced our ability to

predict the performance of a bull’s offspring both live and on the rail.

Due to the impacts of Covid, this year’s sale is online only. We all look

forward to the time when we can resume inviting you to our Campus

for our sales.”

TERMS, CONDITIONS, &

GENERAL SALE INFORMATION TERMS of the sale are cash unless prior credit arrangements are established between buyer and seller.

For the safety and well-being of all buyers and in accordance with UGA policy, the auction will be conducted via

LiveAuctions.tv. The sale offering will remain at the UGA Eatonton Beef Research Farm and may be viewed there by

appointment with Kip McMillan (706/816-2932) prior to sale day. Videos will also be available before and broadcast during

the auction. Pickup and payment of the animals will be scheduled with Kip McMillan and Patsie Cannon (229/881-2705)

following the sale. Prior to the auction buyers should register with LiveAuctions.tv. Limited telephone access will also be

available for anyone unable to utilize LiveAuctions.tv. Contact Patsie Cannon for telephone access details.

BIDDING & DISPUTES – Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. The auctioneer in charge will settle any disputes

which might arise, and his decision will be final. The auctioneer shall have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a

previous record of default in payment.

PURCHASER’S RISK – Each animal becomes the property of the purchaser when sold and will be maintained at the

purchaser’s risk.

MORTALITY INSURANCE is available. Buyers wishing to insure their purchases may do so by contacting Cannon Marketing

Company, Inc.

HEALTH – All animals are eligible for interstate shipment, except as otherwise announced. Interstate health certificates

will be available for each animal.

It is the responsibility of the buyer to know the health restrictions of his/her state and to be aware of the possibility of any

subsequent testing of any animals purchased through this sale as required by law.

REGISTRATION – A certificate of registry, properly transferred, will be furnished by the seller on each registered animal

sold. Any exceptions will be announced from the auction box.

BREEDING GUARANTEE – All bulls have been semen tested and have successfully passed. Bulls are guaranteed to be

breeders with the exception of:

(A) Injury or disease occurring to the animal after the sale.

(B) Gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the purchaser.

This guarantee is a contract between the buyer and the seller. All other parties are acting as agents or representatives only.

Any legal action that may in extreme cases have to be taken must be between the buyer and the seller and will in no way

involve Cannon Marketing Company, Inc.

ANNOUNCEMENTS made from the auction block on sale day shall take precedence over information printed in the catalog.

It is therefore the buyer’s responsibility to pay attention to any such announcements.

ABSENTEE BIDS will be handled in a most confidential manner. Please contact Cannon Marketing Company, Inc., if you

need assistance.

LIABILITY – All persons attend the sale at their risk, and the seller and the sale manager assume no liability, legal or

otherwise, for any accidents occurring in, on, or about the premises. Cannon Marketing Company, Inc., is acting only as a
