LOCATIONGreat King Street is the central avenue of the New Town, dating fromthe early part of the 19th Century. The private gardens of Royal Circuslie to the western end and those of Drummond Place to the easternend. It is particularly well suited for access to all the amenities of thecity centre with George Street and Princes Street just 1/4 mile away.Waverley Train Station with regular train services to London is lessthan half a mile and there is good road access westwards towards thebypass, Edinburgh airport and Central Scotland Motorway Network.

HistoryFrom the original records held by the Theosphical Society it isunderstood that the ground was purchased in 1819 by John BuchananKincaid (being originally land owned by the Governors of the Hospitalfounded by George Heriot). The house was completed and occupiedaround 1823 and appears to have had 3 previous owners up to 1910when it was purchased on behalf of The Theosophical Society inScotland as its Headquarters in Scotland and has remained so until aCharity, which is called The Theosophical Society in Scotland Charitywas formed on the 3rd February 2017. An aim of the Charity is tomaintain, expand and use the original very important Library as aReference Facility, which will be linked to other important similarlibraries in Europe and other parts of the world. To this end theCharity have plans to build a purpose designed Repository in the carpark of the present building, accessed from South East CumberlandStreet Lane.
