Christ The King

Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself,

taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death— even death on a cross.

Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father . (Phil 2: 5–11).

Year 11 Biology Excursion On Monday October 29, the Year 11 Biology students attended an excursion to the Werribee Open Range Zoo. The purpose of the day was to gather data and information about the grassland ecosystem including: the various environmental factors affecting it; threatened species within this habitat and what can be done to save these species; adaptations evident by the different animals viewed on the safari tour; as well as some sightseeing. Our students were very excited to get out of the classroom but remained focused on the task at hand. They were engaged with the Zoo staff and were able to apply the knowledge gained in the classroom to a real-life ecosystem in action. Students returned with a broader understanding of the various interactions that occur within ecosystems, and they have quality information to use in their final SAC for Unit 2 Biology. Thank-you to the staff who attended and helped with the organisation and running of the day. Finally, the students are to be congratulated on representing the College so well and for making their teachers proud. Lauren Prout Science Coordinator and Biology teacher World Youth Day 2012 The World Youth Day gathering is in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in July next year. The College, along with the Archdiocese of Melbourne, is keen for a CRC Melton student to attend this amazing gathering of young Catholics. The CEOM group will be staying with other WYD pilgrims under 18 years of age, not with the ‘young adult’ group, aged 19-25. The students will be housed separately at a hotel on Copacabana Beach where the WYD activities will take place. Teachers from Catholic schools will accompany student pilgrims with a staff /student ratio of 1:7 in place.

The dates for the groups travel are 21-30 July 2013. Students currently in Year 10 at the College are welcome to apply for this sponsored place. The estimated cost per student is $6,000 of which the selected student is required to raise $2000.

Students will be required to fill out an application form and discuss in an interview why they wish to attend World Youth Day. Application forms are available from the Year Level Coordinator, Ms Jovanovic & Faith Development Coordinator, Mr Coates.

Changes to the Secondary School Immunisation Program The Department of Health immunisation website

has a new fact sheet titled Immunisation information for parents of school-aged children available at www.health.vic.gov.au/immunisation/factsheets/immunisation-school-aged-children.htm and also attached to today’s email.

The new fact sheet is replacing the previous fact sheet Immunisation information for parents and Secondary School immunization - parent information.

From 2013, the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) Vaccination Program will include both boys and girls in Year 7. Additionally, a time-limited catch-up program will be provided to Year 9 boys only in 2013 and 2014.

From 2013, the course of hepatitis B vaccine will no longer be offered as a school-based program. Most children entering Year 7 in 2013 will have had the course of hepatitis B vaccine as an infant. Information will be communicated to parents via an information card that will be distributed to all Year 7 parents with the other immunisation consent cards provided by local councils.

For more information and fact sheets about vaccine preventable diseases go to www.health.vic.gov.au/immunisation
