to address youth gangs and prevention strategies

On Sunday, October 20, 2013, at 1:30 p.m., at L'Amoreaux Community Recreation Centre,2000 McNicoll Avenue, the 42 Division Community Police Liaison Committee, in partnershipwith the Toronto Police Service and officers from 42 Division, is hosting the second annualcrime conference.

This year's conference will focus on the growing problem of youth gangs, with the hope offinding effective prevention strategies. The conference will provide young people with a clearunderstanding of the potential life-changing consequences of joining a gang.

Speakers will provide youth as well as parents with information on how to keep from beingrecruited into a gang, signs and signals to look out for that their kids may be in a gang, andsupport agencies that can aid in gang-exit strategies. Riveting discourses will include personalinsights from an ex-gang member. All stakeholders, including parents, educators, youthworkers and youth, are expected to attend this important event.

Admission is free.

The 42 Division CPLC is made up of community volunteers and TPS representatives who liveor work within 42 Division. They strive to work together in identifying, prioritizing andproblem-solving of local policing issues by being proactive in community relations, crime

prevention, education, mobilization, and communications initiatives.

Those in attendance will have a chance to meet youth gang workers, police and otherprofessionals and find out how gangs and serious youth violence are being tackled in theirneighbourhood. They will have an opportunity to speak directly with a range of professionalsinvolved in dealing with gang-related issues.
