The Council of Catholic Women would like to
thank everyone who brought goodies to our
Christmas Cookie and Candy Sale. It was a great
success! The CCW will discuss where we would
like to donate this money at an upcoming meeting.
If you would like your suggestions to be heard
please attend. The council is all about women
helping women!
Ya antes he escrito
Bello
menudo parece completamente indiferente o incluso
siguió a Jesús.
hubiéramos tenido nuestro primer Papa, San Pedro.
¡Feliz Navidad! P. Erik
In just a few weeks, our parish will be hosting
Cursillo retreat weekends for men (Feb. 15 - 18) and
women (Feb. 22 - 25). I have written earlier about the
great fruits that I have seen born out of the Cursillo
spirituality: a more active prayer life, a heightened sense
of participation in parish life, and perhaps most
importantly, the fostering of many meaningful, faith-
based Catholic friendships. This is why I encourage any
adult in the parish looking to deepen his or her faith
life to signup for the February retreat.
One of the unofficial mottos of Cursillo is
“Make a friend. Be a friend. Bring a friend to Christ.”
Beautiful in its simplicity, this motto captures how we
can share our faith and evangelize in a world that often
seems completely indifferent or even hostile to the
Gospel and the Catholic Faith.
In the Gospel reading we hear about Andrew
encountering Jesus. “Andrew, the brother of Simon
Peter, was one of the two who heard John and followed
Jesus. He first found his own brother Simon and told
him, ‘We have found the Messiah.’” St. Andrew indeed
became a great Apostle, but it was his brother Simon
who became the first chief of the Apostles and was
given the name “Cephas” (Greek) – “Petrus” (Latin) –
“Peter” (English) meaning “rock.” Had St. Andrew not
been willing to make, be, and bring his friend and
brother to Christ, we might never have had our first
Pope, St. Peter.
I ask each of you to consider:
With whom is God calling you into
friendship? Where is God inviting you
to be a friend, make a friend, or bring a
friend to Christ? Take it to prayer.
Merry Christmas! Fr. Erik

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins on January 18, and ends on January 25,
the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. What does one have to do with the other?
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity consists of eight days beginning January 18 (at that time
the feast of the Chair of Peter), and ending on January 25, the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. The
Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, founded in the early twentieth century in Graymoor, NY, sought to
promote unity among Anglicans and Roman Catholics. Paul James Wattson, a former Episcopalian priest,
founded the community, which was formally accepted into the Catholic communion.
The idea for Christian unity soon began to catch on, and by the 1930s, more and more Christians welcomed such a focus.
Suggestions for prayer and education are distributed each year, emphasizing a jointly chosen theme. The 1964 Vatican II document
on ecumenism, “Unitatis Redintegratio,” gave a great boost to the octave, so that today many Christians worldwide promote and
participate in the octave time of prayer.
The emphasis on both Peter and Paul aptly fits into the rationale of the octave. Peter is seen as the source of unity within
the Christian tradition. Paul is highlighted due to his vision of bringing all to Christ. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an
ideal opportunity to pray for and promote respect, understanding, and, hopefully, eventual unity among Christians.

Dear Father Erik,
How very kind you and your people are! Thank
you so much for your generosity. The Chapel of St Anne
de Corenage is a beautiful little Church in Frenchtown,
USVI. It was badly damaged by Irene, but nothing that
love & generosity and people like you can’t fix!
Please know that the people of St. Anne’s and
I are very grateful.

We want you to feel connected at Saints
Joachim & Anne! Connection happens when
you get to know the people and staff within
our parish. It also happens when you serve the
Lord and make a difference in the lives of
others. Our parish has over 50 ministries,
which exist to help you grow in your faith,
build a stronger community, and serve others.
Please pick up a ministry brochure in the back
of the churches or in the parish office to learn
more about the ministries you may join.
