We may be over the half way mark for term one, but we certainly still have a busy half a term of solid learning to go. We are very fortunate at Peak Crossing State School to have such a dedicated team of professionals working together to produce the very best outcomes for students. Ensuring that ‘Every State School Student is Succeeding’ is a school and Department of Education priority. Every student at our school is capable of achieving great progress and great results. This includes students with a disability, students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, students who have specialised health or behavioural needs. Every student is capable of achieving ‘Success through Diligence’. For some students, progress may occur in small increments, for others’, they progress rapidly, and mostly, learning is developmental for all students. All children possess intelligence in one form or another and it is very important to always focus on the effort students put in, and the progress they make. In addition, it is vital that we create opportunities to develop the whole child; both academically, socially and emotionally. At our school we are very fortunate to have both a Positive Behaviour Learning Team and Student Support Services team. Both teams meet regularly to discuss students’ progress and discuss any students who may require additional support and services. The team discuss any Department of Education and Training referral services for students, e.g., Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech, Students with Disability Support and additional Behavioural support and services that may be required; including the implementation of proactive strategies and approaches to support both students and staff. Parent Communication and Concerns At Peak Crossing State School we believe it is vital to ensure there are positive partnerships between home and school. From time to time an issue or concern may arise throughout the school year. It is very important that if you have concerns to please communicate these concerns in a respectful manner.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL Welcome to week six. We may be over the half way mark for term one, but we certainly still have a busy half a term of solid learning to go. The Respect our staff, respect our school campaign, aims to create safer and more respectful communities in Queensland state schools. Violent or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated at this school. It’s not just a courtesy, it’s the law. We all have different beliefs, expectations and experiences, so there are inevitably going to be times where conflicts or disagreements can occur in schools. How we handle those conflicts can make a significant difference to the learning and development of our students and the positive environments we aim to foster. The safety of our students and staff is the number one priority and everyone in the community plays a part in ensuring learning environments are safe. All members of the community are encouraged to work together to prevent abuse and violence directed towards school staff.

Everyone in our school community deserves respect, this includes all students, and parent/s and carer/s. If you have an issue with another parent or family, or your child has an issue with another child, we do not encourage you to approach other parents and students. If you have a concern or issue that you would like to bring to the attention of our school, then we advise discussing your concerns with your child’s class teacher to try to resolve any problems that may arise, this can be done verbally or in writing. If you feel that the situation has not been resolved, then you are invited to contact the Principal. If you wish to organise a face to face meeting with either the Principal, Teacher, or both, then this can be organised for a mutually convenient time. Our aim is to work together to achieve the best positive outcomes for students. If however, you ever feel your issue has not been resolved to your satisfaction, then you are welcome to contact the Department of Education and Training, South East Region Office to discuss your concerns.

School Annual Implementation Plan and I4S Our school Annual Implementation Plan priorities build on from 2017. Our priority focus areas in 2018 include: Community and Partnership Engagement IMPACT: Embedding a positive and inclusive culture Reading IMPACT: Embedding our Whole School Reading Framework and effective reading practices Teaching and Learning IMPACT: Creating a Culture of Coaching and Feedback Our School Investing for Success (I4S) funds are used to support strategies and initiatives to aim to meet school targets. Once approved, our Investing for Success strategic document will be shared and available for publication on our School Website

Emergency Services Day Last Tuesday, our school was extremely lucky to have a visit from the Emergency Services. Our students were able to get up and personal with emergency vehicles, the Police Dogs and the main attraction was the landing of the Polair 1 helicopter which was super exciting and very educational for the students. On behalf of Peak Crossing State School we would like to thank Senior Detective Sergeant Lee Fortune from the Ipswich CIB for organising such a special event for our School. We all know this was a worthy and very educational event. Thanks to everyone for supporting such a fantastic event and cause.

Student Leader Badge Ceremony On Monday morning we held a special assembly to present our Student Leaders with their badges. We were also very fortunate to have Mr Jon Krause, Member for Scenic Rim present our Leaders with their certificates. Thank you to Mr Krause for attending and thank you and congratulations to our amazing Student Leaders for 2018:

Behaviour Our school is a registered Positive Behaviour Learning School, which is an evidence based whole-school approach to creating a safe and supportive environment.

Our school rules are: ‘Be Safe’, ‘Be Respectful’, and ‘Be Responsible’. What it looks like to be safe, respectful and responsible across all areas of the school are taught explicitly to students. We hope the high

expectations we set will assist students in demonstrating the expected behaviours at home and in all community areas.

Our behaviour focus this fortnight is:

‘I am safe, respectful and responsible student in the classroom’

If you ever have any suggestions or feedback regarding our whole school responsible behaviour plan, we would love to hear from you.
