We are guided by catholic Gospel teachings of Jesus Christ, in partnership with parents, caregivers, parish and the wider community. Our school is dedicated to fostering life-long learning through educational excellence encapsulating the spiritual, cognitive, emotional, social and physical development of the child. Principal’s Message Dear Parents and Caregivers of Good Shepherd Catholic School Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1) Dear Parents and Caregivers of Good Shepherd Catholic School On Wednesday some of our Year 3 students along with the students from Years 4, 5 and 6 participated in our annual Faction Swimming Carnival. On a warm day, it was great to see parents and members of extended family come along and support the students. Each of our students should be very proud of the way the competed, recognised the efforts of each other and behaved in the faction bays. Congratulations to Maali, our winning faction on the day. Congratulations, also, to each of the champions and runners-up champions for their achievements. A big thank you to the parents who assisted, parents who supported, staff members for their hard work in so many ways and to Mr B, who organised yet another very successful carnival. We look forward to our Interschool swimming team competing early next term. On Tuesday morning, our Year 6 students will depart for their camp. Camp is a highlight of the Year 6 year and many happy memories are formed by the students as they will spend 4 full days together. I would like to thank Mrs Webb and Mrs Caridi for all the work they have put into organising the camp. I would also like to acknowledge the staff members who have so generously given up their time to accompany the children. We look forward to the students sharing their camp experiences upon their return. Please remember if you are leaving your car to collect your children your car must be parked in a parking bay. No parking in the drive through or bus bays is permitted at any time. Cars parking on the verge of Morley Drive, in particular those parked very close to the exit, are obstructing the view for cars leaving the school. It is asked you avoid parking in the vicinity of the exit to avoid car accidents occurring. Please be aware that by parking on the verge you are at risk of receiving an infringement notice from the council. We would like to remind families driving through the carpark to do so with caution and care as the speed limit is 5km/h. Please be vigilant of the many students exiting vehicles and crossing within the carpark. This reminder is for the safety of our students. I am sure that I don’t need to remind our families that Monday is a public holiday, recognising Labour Day. There will be no school on this day, so I hope all our students enjoy the break away from school routine. I will be joining the Year 6s on their camp next week so Mrs Deans and Mrs Butler will be responsible for the running of the school in my absence. Have a great week ahead. Stay safe and stay well. Sustainability – Eco Warriors Battery recycling

Recycle your batteries at Good Shepherd. Please bring batteries from home to be recycled

correctly. Batteries can contain a variety of toxic chemicals including cadmium, lead, mercury

and lithium-ion. There is the risk of these toxic chemicals leaching into surrounding groundwater

or soil so it is very important that batteries do not end up in landfill. You can find the battery

recycling bin outside the library in the undercover area.

A message from our Year 6 Leaders

Another big week, we have had the Swimming Carnival and rugby. Congratulations to Maali for winning the Swimming Carnival. Thanks to all the parents and teachers who helped. Thanks to Mr. B for organizing the Swimming Carnival and the rugby clinic. This weekend is a long weekend and on Tuesday the year sixes will be going to camp.

Senior leaders Melodie Gate and Jaeda Aliphon

Swimming Carnival On the 24th of February, It was our annual Faction Swimming Carnival at Bayswater Waves, for all our year 4,5,6s and eight year 3s. Everyone showed great sportsmanship towards each other. The two novelty races; donut and tunnelball were so fun and we’re so lucky to have Mr B organise these types of events just for us. We congratulate Maali on winning our 2021 Swimming Carnival. Lastly, we thank Mr B, our parents, teachers, and staff for helping throughout the carnival. Jaxon, Vikram, Lauren and Sarah

Project Compassion We begin our annual Lenten Project Compassion journey by learning about the story of Jamila and

her family. Jamila, 22, is a Rohingya woman, living in the world’s largest refugee camp in Cox’s

Bazar, Bangladesh. A single mother, she fled armed conflict in Myanmar to save herself, her elderly

mother and eight-month-old baby.

With the support of Caritas Australia, through Caritas Bangladesh, Jamila was

able to access emergency food and shelter. She also received counselling, emotional support and

learnt sewing skills, to help her earn an income. Jamila now feels less alone, with a sense

of community around her. She is able to ‘Be More’ to her little family.

• 860,494 people remain in the densely populated camps, in desperate need of humanitarian

assistance, especially due to COVID-19. (UNHCR)

Watch a short film about Jamila’s story here.
