After a perfect ten rounds, Ryan went into a tie breaker of five additional rounds against three other students. Again with a perfect score, three children remained and so, according to the rules of the competition were announced equal winners. The other winners were from Killara and Our Lady of Mt Carmel. Ryan will be officially presented with the shared trophy by a representative from Rotary at assembly on a date yet to be determined. 40 Years in Education Congratulations to Mrs. Robyn Norris, Mr. Tim Field and Mr. Stephen Taylor who recently celebrated 40 years of service to education. The event was hosted by the Secretary of the Department of Education and Training, Gill Callister, with The Hon. James Merlino MP, Deputy Premier and Minister for Education presenting certificates to each of the recipients. Flagpole We are pleased to have received a $1200 grant for a new flagpole through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. We are hoping to purchase this next term. The new flagpole will be erected down near The Hub so that it can be a prominent feature in the schoolyard. Rob Mitchell also presented us with a new Australian Flag, Aboriginal Flag and Torres Strait Islander Flag. Sunbury West Playgroup We are very excited to announce that Sunbury West will be starting its very own playgroup for all families in the local community. The program, which will be facilitated by Rae Marsh, will commence on Tuesday 9th June from 9.15 - 10.45 in the OSHClub Room. See enclosed flyer for more details or contact the office for an enrolment form. Education Week It was great to see so many parents, grandparents and carers come along on Thursday afternoon for our open session. With varying activities taking place, the children always take great pride in showing their families around and sharing their school day experiences. Prep Tours We have now finished our formal Prep tours and information sessions. It was great to meet a number of new families. Sincere thanks to Kasey Curll and Jade Griffiths who spoke at the sessions and Zac Ploog and Lauren Clark welcoming and ushering families as well as walking around with us. Thankyou also to Kristy Hermelin who spoke on behalf of FOSW and Rae Marsh who talked about her experience as a Prep parent. With representation from staff, parents and students, we painted a great picture of our school as a real community. Further endorsements from parents in the audience evoked a huge sense of pride in our school as a great place for children and families to be. We are now starting to plan and prepare for 2016 so if you or anyone you know will be enrolling a Prep student for next year, please hand your enrolment form into the Office as soon as possible.
