WARNING• Failure to follow each of the installation

instructions can result in your child striking thevehicle's interior during a sudden stop or crash.Serious injury or death may result.

• Premature infants may have difficulty breathingwhen in a sitting position. Consult your doctorbefore using this or any child restraint with apremature infant.

• DO NOT use this restraint in any vehicleposition equipped with an air bag. Interactionbetween a rear facing restraint and air bags maycause serious injury or death. If your vehicle hasan air bag, refer to the vehicle owner's manualfor child restraint installation.

• NEVER leave child unattended.

• NEVER place this child restraint on beds, sofas,or other soft surfaces. The child restraint can rollover on soft surfaces and suffocate your child.

• NEVER place this restraint near the edges ofcounter tops, tables, or other high surfaces. Thechild’s movements can cause the child restraintto slide.

• When using this child restraint, always keep theharness buckled and the straps snug against thechild. A child may strangle when straps areloose or undone.

This child restraint meets all requirements of CanadianMotor Vehicle Safety Standard 213.1 This infant restraintis designed for use by children who weigh 2.3 to 9 kg (5to 20 pounds) and are 48 to 66 cm (19 to 26 inches) inheight.

No child restraint can guarantee absolute protectionfrom injury in every crash. Vehicle crashes are inherentlydangerous. To ensure that your child gets all theprotection designed into this child restraint, you must:

• Read and follow these instructions exactly.

• When the vehicle has an adjustable headrest, adjust theheadrest to the lowest position. The vehicle seatback, against which the child restraint is installed, should be fully padded and free of hard objects.

• Use this child restraint only on forward-facing vehicleseats. DO NOT use on vehicle seats which face the rearor side.

• Use this child restraint only on vehicle seats withbacksthat lock into place.

• DO NOT use this child restraint in a vehicle seatequipped with seat belts that automatically movealong the vehicle frame when the door is opened. These seat belts will not hold a child restraint properly.

• DO NOT use this child restraint in a vehicle seatequipped with lap belts that do not lock except in asudden stop or crash (emergency locking retractors). You must use a seating location with a locking seatbelt. Consult your vehicle owner’s manual or dealer todetermine if your vehicle has emergency lockingretractors.

• Always place handle in the down position when usingthis restraint in a vehicle.

• This child restraint must be installed by using thefollowing instructions as well as the instructions in yourvehicle owner's manual. If there is a conflict betweenthe two instructions, the vehicle owner’s manualregarding child restraint installation must be followed.

• According to accident statistics, children are saferwhen properly restrained in rear seating positions, than in front seating positions. Generally, the centerrear is safest.

• Always anchor the child restraint with the vehicleseat belt, even when not occupied. In a crash, anunrestrained car seat may injure someone.

• Always buckle the harness straps and use the chestclip when using as a car seat and/or a carrier.

• Always place handle in the down position beforeremoving infant from the seat.

• In hot or sunny weather, always check the childrestraint and buckle for hot areas before placing achild into the seat. Cover the seat with a lightcolored blanket when you leave the vehicle.

• DO NOT use this infant restraint in seatingpositions with a fold-down armrest. During a crashserious injury or death could result from armrestmovement. Consult your vehicle dealer to havethe armrest disabled or removed.

• If this restraint is involved in any accident, it shouldbe replaced.

• DO NOT use this product if it is damaged, broken,or has missing parts.

The first and most important thing to do is tomake a firm family rule: Everyone rides buckledup or the car doesn’t go. Make no exceptions foradults or children. If someone unbuckles, stop the car.Being firm and consistent right from the start will meanfewer discipline problems as children get older. Anunrestrained child or adult can be thrown into andinjure other passengers.

• NEVER try to tend to a crying baby’s needs whiledriving. NEVER take a baby out of the childrestraint for comforting while the vehicle is mov-ing.

• NEVER make an exception and let your child rideoutside the restraint. This will lead to manydiscipline problems, and your infant could get hurtin a sudden stop or crash.

• DO NOT feed an infant who is riding in a childrestraint.

• DO NOT allow a child in a vehicle to have any-thing like a lollipop or ice cream on a stick. Acollision, bump, or swerve could cause theseobjects to injure the child.

• DO NOT allow sharp or heavy objects to be loosein the car. Put groceries in the trunk. Anythingloose can be deadly in a crash.

• In cold weather, baby may need a blanket for extrawarmth. Place baby in the restraint and coverboth baby and restraint. DO NOT place blanketunderneath harness straps.

When the seat is new, the harness isinstalled in the lowest slots. To change the harness position, push the metalslide through the slot to the front of the seat (Fig.D). Release the buckle tongue and feed the entireharness through the slot to the back of the seat(Fig. E). It may be helpful to pull the top of theseat pad off the seat.

LEVEL LINE

8

Place the restraint onto your vehicle seat. Securethe child restraint to your vehicle by routing thevehicle seat belt through the belt slots on the seat(Fig. M). Buckle the vehicle seat belt. Adjust therestraint so that its backrest is approximately 45degrees to the floor of vehicle. Make sure that thelevel line on the side of the restraint is parallel withthe vehicle floor. (Fig.M) (Remember, the centerrear seating position is the safest.) This childrestraint must face the rear of the vehicle.

9

Pull the vehicle seat belt as tight as possible, checkto be sure the child restraint is secure and stable.Always test your seat installation by forcibly tiltingit from side to side. Make sure that the seat beltholds the seat securely in place. If you can pullthe child restraint more than 25 mm (1 inch)forward or side to side, at the belt path, the beltsare not tight enough. Tighten again, or move therestraint to a different seating location. If the beltslips, try turning the adjustable end of the beltupside down before buckling it. This proceduremay defeat the adjustment mechanism andprevent the belt from loosening. Again, test tomake sure that it is secure. If your vehicle has a three-point seat belt with afree sliding buckle tongue, you must install thelocking clip. See "Using a Metal Locking Clip"instructions. If your vehicle has a three-point belt system (a lapand shoulder belt), you can route the shoulderbelt through the belt clip on the back of the childrestraint (Fig. N). You may also let the vehicleshoulder belt fall against the vehicle seat back if itwill not reach around the back of the restraint(Fig. O).
