David Carson
Favorite Designers
I love the way Nicolas and Sandra make
fashion drawings and then add graphic
elements in the computer. I have always been very
interested in fashion and I love doing
portraits, so their collections really
inspire me.
I really love the way David Carson uses text in his designs. I also really enjoy the way he combines images, like in the one below, to make very interesting juxtapositions.

 Blue Notes & Photos
Blue Notes & Photos
We decided to collect blue sticky notes and get people we know, sometimes even people we
didn’t know, to write about a time when they were feeling blue. We collected as many as we could in the amount of time we had and then posted them anonymously on two large glass doors. We really
liked the idea of taking something so personal and making it public.

I really liked the way these cropped patterns looked, but they weren’t exactly following the rules of the assignment.

 Typography Research
I did a lot of research on bold typefaces because I like working with typography. I really like drawing/writing my own type.

 Typography Research
While trying to think of new and interesting ways to use typography, I found these images and really liked them.

I was particularly drawn to this design. I really loved how the designer arranged the text, and I tried to use the same aesthetic in my own designs.

 Application: BOLD Coffee Shop

While working on my patterns, I created one that reminded me of coffee beans. As I continued my explorations into typography, I really liked one of the effects I created using a stencil I made. I
decided to “create” my own modern coffee shop using these two ideas.
Application: BOLD Coffee Shop

drink BOLD. be BOLD.
I combined parts of both the pattern and the typography and came up with this design for my coffee shop’s logo. The coffee shop’s slogan is “drink BOLD. be BOLD.” Because the whole idea of the coffee shop is to support local artists. BOLD encourages local musicians, painters, writers, any kind of artist to come out and have a show. BOLD encourages local artists to be bold (and drink their BOLD brand coffee, of course!)
