Opened in 1998, this 50,964 sq. ft. award-winning facility (for design by the New Jersey Recreation and Park Association) is home to our full-time professional Recreation Department. Open seven days a week, the two-story facility has two regulation basketball courts, a state of the art dance studio suite, eight multi-purpose rooms, and a commercial kitchen that are all available to rent by l o c a l o rga n i zat i o n s evenings and weekends

when recreation activities are not scheduled. The Department operates year-round and has a beautiful open-air full-day learning center for preschool-aged children, an area for the state-licensed afterschool program from school dismissal to 6 p.m. weekdays during the school year, a 10,000 sq. ft. area that accommodates our one-of-a-kind senior services center five days a week (offering an assortment of educational, social and physical fitness classes), and an assortment of other leisure activities for ages 18 months through adults, winter, spring, summer and fall. The Sunshine Garden Learning Center operates 10 months during the school year (September thru mid-June) and offers preschool children, ages 3 and 4, not entering kindergarten, a full day learning experience. With a Montessori-based curriculum, the mission of this program is to nurture self-esteem while stimulating the physical, emotional and intellectual development of the students through multi-sensory activities. The full-day program ending at 3:00 p.m. also has an after-school component until 6:00 p.m. There is an outdoor enclosed play structure directly outside of the area.

The After School Area hosts our afterschool program weekdays from school dismissal to 6:00 p.m. The program fosters children’s (ages 5 through 13) self-esteem, socially, physically and emotionally through age appropriate activities. After 6:00 p.m., the area is available for rent by local organizations.

The dance studio suite is a fully mirrored 750 sq. ft. area with permanent ballet barres, a suspended wood floor and changing area with cubbies. It is available after 6:00 p.m. for rent to local organizations weeknights and days and evenings on the weekends when Recreation activities are not scheduled.

The Richard Norman Gymnasium (Gym 1 or affectionately known as the “blue” gym) has a regulation basketball court with bleachers and a Taraflex floor.

Gym 2 has a regulation size basketball court with a suspended wood floor, bleachers and electric roll-down curtain for half gym usage.

Both of these gymnasiums are home to the Teaneck Youth Basketball League during the winter season, weekday evenings and weekends.

When Recreation activities are not scheduled, both gymnasiums are available after 6:00 p.m. for rent to residents and local organizations weeknights and days and evenings on the weekends .

Norman GymNorman Gym

Multi-Purpose Room 1, the Great Room, can accommodate up to 100 people auditorium style. It is available after 6:00 p.m. for rent to local organizations weeknights and days and evenings on the weekends when Recreation activities or town meetings are not scheduled. Renters needing water or the use of a microwave or cook top can use the kitchenette outside of the commercial kitchen at no fee. Adjacent to MP1 is a commercial kitchen that is also available to rent to local organizations.

M u l t i -P u r p o s e Room 2B can accommodate up to 60 people auditorium style. It is available after 6:00 p.m. for rent to local organizations weeknights and days and evenings on the weekends when Recreation activities or town meetings are not scheduled. The room has a permanent roll down screen. Renters needing water or the use of a microwave or cook top can use the kitchenette outside of the commercial kitchen at no fee.

Separated from Multi-Purpose Room 2B by a partition wall, Multi-Purpose Room 2A can accommodate up to 40 people auditorium style. It is also available after 6:00 p.m. for rent to local organizations weeknights and days and evenings on the weekends when Recreation activities or town meetings are not scheduled. Renters needing water or the use of a microwave or cook top can use the kitchenette outside of the commercial kitchen at no fee. This room can be rented with Multi-Purpose Room 2B to accommodate a total of 100 people auditorium style.

Multi-Purpose Room 3 can accommodate up to 36 people auditorium style. It is available after 6:00 p.m. for rent to local organizations weeknights and days and evenings on the weekends when Recreation activities or town meetings are not scheduled. Renters needing water or the use of a microwave or cook top can use the kitchenette outside of the commercial kitchen at no fee. The piano is not available and cannot be rented.

Multi-Purpose Room 4 can accommodate up to 22 people auditorium style. It is available after 6:00 p.m. for rent to local organizations weeknights and days and evenings on the weekends when Recreation activities or town meetings are not scheduled. Renters needing water or the use of a microwave or cook top can use the kitchenette outside of the commercial kitchen at no fee. The cabinets are used by Recreation activities and are not available for storage.

Multi-Purpose Room 5 can accommodate up to 10 people. It is available after 6:00 p.m. for rent to local organizations weeknights and days and evenings on the weekends when Recreation activities or town meetings are not scheduled. Renters needing water or the use of a microwave or cook top can use the kitchenette outside of the commercial kitchen at no fee.

Available only to seniors while the Senior Center is in operation, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (excluding Municipal holidays), the Game Room features a 9’ regulation

pool table, table tennis table, cable television, magazines and books for leisure time activities.

The Richard Allen Kunath Art Studio can accommodate up to 20 people. It is available after 6:00 p.m. for rent to local organizations weeknights and days and evenings on the weekends when Recreation activities or town meetings are not scheduled. Renters needing water or the use of a microwave or cook top can use the kitchenette outside of the commercial kitchen at no fee.
