This year marks 25 consecutive years of Mother and Daughter Dinners. This year is unique as it marks the second generation of Bnos Mitzva coming through. This year Mrs Dini Groner's daughter celebrated the Bas Mitzva Dinner together with her class. Mrs Groner (nee Gutnick) was in the inaugural class in 1993. She had a beaming smile on her face as she watched her daughter Chaya give her speech, sing in the choir and dance with the rest of her class. What nachas to see her daughter participate and have that same experience. Making it extra special was Chaya having her grandmother and great grandmother there to celebrate with her. Mrs Itkin has taken over the Bas Mitzva program from Mrs Deitz and continues to inspire the girls. We wish all our mothers and their daughters a hearty Mazel Tov.

Parshas Re'eh

The Next 3 Weeks at KTC

Dvar TorahOf the core values in Judaism, helping those in need, be it financially, emotionally or otherwise is consid-ered paramount. In Parshas Re’eh we are told to assist the destitute and are instructed to ensure that we have no regrets whilst doing so. R’ Yosef Karo author of the Shulchan Aruch states: ‘One must give Tzedakah with a pleasant countenance, with joy and with a good heart, empathizing with the plight of the poor person and offering words of comfort. If one gives with a sad face then he has lost the benefit of giving.’Tzedaka is not merely your resources leaving your domain to enter into the domain of the needy but rather that you ensure that your resources reach their destination in a manner that ensures the dignity of the recipient. If this is not accounted for in the equation, then ultimately the Mitzvah of Tzedaka is incomplete. This idea is highlighted with regards to another important Mitzvah known as Chessed Shel Emes - ‘the kindness of truth’. This refers to the kindness that people do for the sake of the dead. It is often described as the ultimate kindness because the

dead cannot repay their benefactor. However, my colleague Rabbi Lobel once shared the following thought in the name of his father-in-law. When one does a favour for someone, no matter how small or trivial, there is an unintended pain that is brought about on the recipient. As genuine as the giver might be, the beneficiary loses independency because he/she is reliant on someone else for his/her needs. As a result, despite all the best intentions there is something lacking in the kindness. However, when one is kind to the dead, one cannont take away independence that does not exist. This therefore is the ultimate kindness or Chessed Shel Emes.

When we do kind deeds we need to ensure that we are not focused solely on the giving but also on the feelings and dignity of the recipient.

Early LearningSurprise Visit from Rabbi Shimmy WeinbaumThe ECC children were treated to a surprise visit by Rabbi Shimmy Weinbaum - head of Tzivos Hashem International. Rabbi Weinbaum reminded the children that every single one of them is a soldier in Hashem’s Army and has a very special task of fighting the Yetzer Haro (evil inclination). The children were all able to give excellent examples of ways that they make the right choices all the time! The children really enjoyed the visit and are so proud to be soldiers in Hashem's army!

The first of our Grandparent Shabbos Parties was held last Friday. What a joyous event! The children proudly prepared for the event by thinking about how to welcome their grandparents and special friends. They drew pictures to go on the programs, practised their songs and helped to set up the room in readiness for the event. The look on the children’s faces when their grandparents and special friends arrived was a sight to behold. These opportunities to spend time with grandparents and special friends are so important for the children. They provide the grandparents with an insight into the wisdom and capabilities of the child and vice-versa. Thank you to all the grandparents and special friends for coming and sharing your joy with us. Virginia Aghan

Primary SchoolKTC Bas Mitzvah CelebrationWow! What a night! This week our Year 6 girls celebrated their completion of the KTC Bas Mitzvah Course with a spectacular per-formance. Over the past 6 months, the girls participated in the KTC Bas Mitzvah Course, studying the mitzvos of a Jewish woman in depth and exploring what it means to be an Eishes Chayil in our times. In line with this year’s theme, In the Merit of Righteous Women, the girls explored the life-stories of some of our greatest תזכות נשים צדקןניות–Jewish women who feature in Tanach and the Gemora. The girls put on an extraordinary presentation, inspiring the guests with the lessons and values they learned from these Jewish greats and delighting their mothers, family and friends with song and dance. We are so proud of the girls! May Hashem grant each of them success in their studies and in their conduct as Jewish women, allowing each girl to achieve her fullest potential as she takes her place in the chain of Jewish tradition.A special thank you to their Bas Mitzvah teacher, Aviva Itkin, for leading them on this important journey. And a special thank you to all those who helped in such incredible ways and without whom the night would not have been the amazing event it was. Leora Rudansky, Nechama Dina Milecki, Gail Gottlieb, Shelley Borer, Rachelle Smith, Aviva Yesgar, Michael Shteyman and Esther Lever. We could not do it without you!

Primary SchoolBook Week

BOOK WEEK @ KTC Kesser Torah College is celebrating Book Week from Monday 20th August to Friday 24th August 2018!

The theme for Book Week this year is ‘Find Your Treasure’.

Book ParadeStudents are most welcome to dress up as their favourite book character or in the Book Week theme of ‘Find Your Treasure’ on Wednesday 22 August to celebrate Book Week. Costumes may be as simple as a hat, scarf or glasses. All costume choices must be in keeping with the ethos of the College and students must wear closed in shoes. The Book Parade will commence in the MPH at 9.10 for Yr 1 and Yr 2-6 Boys, followed at approx. 9.45 by Yr K and Yr 2-6 girls. We would love you to bring a book to share at a morning tea picnic with your child/children.

Book FairOur annual Book Week Book Fair will be held on Wednesday August 22nd. This year, Carnival Books have supplied a wide range of titles, fiction, non-fiction and activity books. Each class will have an opportunity to preview the books and complete a wishlist to take home before the Fair, as well as an opportunity to purchase books on the day.

There is no obligation to buy on the day but should you wish to, purchasing or donating books from the Book Fair is a fantastic way to support our school library as the school receives a commission on all books sold. All the money raised goes toward buying library books and learning resources for the whole school to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair.

If you can volunteer some time to help at the Book Fair and parade, please contact the teacher librarian at [email protected]

If your child missed the invitation, they/you can collect a spare from the library.

Have you found your book treasure yet? Who will you be?

On Wednesday, the Year 3 students went to the Australian Maritime Museum. They left KTC filled with excitement and enthusiasm to experience hands-on activities relating to their History theme “Who Discovered Australia.” The students got to go on one of the largest floating historical vessels, the replica of Captain Cooks' HMB Endeavour. Students were fortunate enough to have a guided tour of the ship giving them insight into how early explorers travelled and some of the hardships they experienced. The students also saw The Navigators, which is a defining Australian exhibition, examining early contact with the Australian continent by European explorers and non-Euro-pean traders. Students enjoyed walking around the Destroyer, Australia’s last big gun ship. The students thoroughly enjoyed their excursion and returned to KTC with a wealth of new knowledge. We would like to thank Mrs Rayman and Mrs Kessel for joining us on our excursion.

Primary SchoolYear K DaveningOver the last 2 weeks in Year K, we have been learning the meaning behind the list of Brachos in Birchas Hashachar which are said every morning. From thanking Hashem for our needs, to how He takes care of the world around us to giving us the ability to keep His holy Mitzvos. To better connect with this theme, the students made a beautiful sensory artwork which describes and reflects each Bracha. We are so proud of them all!

Farewell to Miss RudanskyIt is with great sadness that we farewell our Year 6 teacher Miss Leora Rudansky this week as she leaves for London.

In the time she has been with us at KTC, she has had made an indelible impact across all areas of the Primary school. A dedicated teacher and team member, she will be sorely missed by her students and all the staff.

We wish her only success in the next step of her exciting journey and hope she comes back to join us again soon!

Primary and High SchoolAthletics Carnival - BoysOn Wednesday 1st August, Kesser Torah College had their Athletics Carnival, boys at E.S. Marks and the girls at Hensley Athletic Field. Congratulations to all our Year 3 - 11 students on a super day of athletics. It was a day full of fun, with some superb individual performances and plenty of house and school spirit.

Our House Captains did a great job leading their respective groups, while the students responded by giving their all, in both track and field events. A huge number of students participated in various events on the day, to earn their houses points towards the overall Athletics Champions.

A big thank you to all the staff on the day who did a fantastic job of running their events or assisting the students in getting involved.

Boys' High SchoolLunchtime ShiurThis week was the first opportunity for the Tuesday lunchtime shiur in Likkutei Sichos to take place. It's great to see how many boys jump at the chance to use their free time for extra learning.

This Wednesday a new series of weekly shiurim was launched, in which Aaron Kastel will present his research on various fascinating topics. The first was about whether chassidus rejects gravity, which has previously been delivered in Brunoy, Crown Heights and Hebrew University. To see his paper on the subject click here. The next will be about the history of the Nishmas prayer which involves the first Pope and a talking corpse.link address : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FeRLp8jjFsnL5qtAqKdip0c1hpK3hHiy/view
