Order for Holy Communion Members of the Orthodox Church age seven and above must prepare for Holy Communion with a recent confession, prayer, fasting from all food and drink from midnight (unless medical condition preclude it), being in church before the Epistle and Gospel readings, and being at peace with everyone.

CHILDREN going to church school and their teachers should come down the center aisle first. (Small children may need to be assisted by their parents.)

ALL OTHERS should wait until an usher dismisses your row from the center aisle. Then return to your place by a side aisle for the prayers of thanksgiving and the final blessing and dismissal. Please let choir members pass when they come down for Communion.

A Warm Welcome to Our Guests We are glad you are worshipping with us. Please note that participation in Holy Communion is limited to members of the Orthodox Church in good standing, who have prepared through prayer, fasting and confession.

For all others: though we cannot share Communion with you—since it is an expression of membership and full unity in faith—you are welcome to come forward after the dismissal, receive a blessing and partake of the blessed bread (from the large bowls). Please also sign our guest book, and introduce yourself to Fr. Nabil during the coffee hour. You may inquire with him how you can become a member.

Troparion for St. George (Tone 4, Russian)

As Deliverer of captives and Defender of the poor, Healer of the infirm, Champion of kings, victorious Great-Martyr George,

intercede with Christ, our God, for our souls’ salvation.

Kontakion of the Entrance of the Theotokos (Tone 4)

The sacred Treasury of God’s holy glory, the greatly precious Bridal Chamber and Virgin, the Savior’s most pure Temple, free of stain and undefiled, into the House of the Lord on this day is brought forward and bringeth

with herself the grace of the Most Divine Spirit; her do God’s Angels hymn with songs of praise, for she is truly the heavenly Taber-nacle.

SCRIPTURE LESSONS

Prokeimenon (Tone 8; Psalm 75.11, 1 LXX)

Make your vows to the Lord, our God, and perform them. Verse: God is known in Judah; his Name is great in Israel.

Epistle of St. Paul to the Ephesians (4.1-7; 25th Sunday after Pentecost)

BRETHREN, I, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all lowliness and meekness, with patience, forbearing one an-other in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called

to the one hope that belongs to your call, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of us all, Who is above all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ's gift.

From the Gospel according to St. Luke (12:16-21; 9th Sunday of Luke)

THE LORD SPOKE THIS PARABLE: “The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully; and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods

laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

As He said this, Jesus called out, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

PREPARING FOR CHRISTMAS: PRE-CHRISTMAS FAST

November 15 marked the first day of the NATIVITY FAST, which runs for forty days, until Christmas. (We do make a general dispensation, however, for Thanksgiving Day.) During this time, we abstain from meat and dairy products. Then the last few days of the fast—Dec. 20-24—become stricter, when fish, wine and oil are also excluded. Everyone should also plan to make their confession sometime during the fast.

ANNUAL STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN

This is the time of year when we reflect upon our many blessings and give thanks to our almighty God. It is also the time to re-evaluate our stewardship commitment for the coming year. This commitment is in the form of our an-nual stewardship pledge. This is the pledge we make to continue the opera-tional support of our church for the coming year and is separate from the building fund/mortgage pledge.

Our pledge drive will culminate on Sunday, December 9, our annual “Pledge Sunday.” That will be the day we step forward at the end of Liturgy and renew our commitments to sharing in the Lord’s work by mak-ing our pledges for 2019. After-wards, our stewardship committee will serve brunch in thanksgiving for you and all our stewards.

We hope everyone is striving to reach a goal of at least 10% of their total in-come as a pledge. If you can’t reach 10%, please consider increasing your pledge from last year and continue to work toward 10% in the future.

Father Nabil, the parish council and stewardship committee are asking for 100% participa-tion from all members of St. George Parish. Please help us reach our goal!

AN OPENING FOR THE GOSPEL IN EVANSVILLE

We began working on starting a church in Evansville in 1997. Gradually, our mis-sionary efforts bore fruit, especially when they got to the point of having a full-time priest, Fr. Daniel Hackney, in 2009.

Two years ago, they purchased the build-ing you see here, and they have been making renovations to make it suitable

for Orthodox worship since then, and we have been helping with that. For example, we sent a mission team in August of 2016 to do demolition work.

We are all invited to help our Evansville daughter mission and Bishop Anthony celebrate the

MEMORY ETERNAL TO FR. STEPHEN RHUDY

Father Stephen departed this life on Tuesday of last week. He served a number of parishes, retiring from St. George in Terre Haute, at which time he, Kh. Jedonne (who de-parted this life suddenly, two years ago) and Peter Rhudy moved to Indianapolis and were part of our parish for two years. After that, they moved to Anniston, Alabama, to be with daughter Cana and son-in-law Fr. Basil Henry.

Fr. Nabil was able to have a blessed visit with Fr. Stephen in September, as he was in hospice care. The funeral is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 29, in Alabama.
