Principal’s Reflection

25 September, 2019

Week 10, Term 3

Reflection Dear Families,

What a fantastic and action-packed term it has been at Holy Spirit, there has been so much happening. The

highlights for me were the Father’s Day breakfast and Liturgy, Book Week Parade, Defence Family

Gatherings, excursions and sport days because they were all great Holy Spirit community events. A big

thankyou to the staff, parents and friends who all assisted with making these events a great success.

Our friendship with the students and staff from Murrupurtiyanuwu Catholic Primary School (Aboriginal Catholic Community

School) on Bathurst Island continues. On Monday the senior classes welcomed the Year 6 students from MCPS into their class to be

involved with their learning. The afternoon was filled with sporting activities, waterslides and interactive games. We are very fortunate

to have this relationship over the last 6 years and find that it is great two way learning for both schools.

Friday is our Footy Colours Day. Students may wear their favourite sports team colours. If your child does not have a favourite team

they may wear their favourite colours. Please ensure that clothes are sun-safe, no singlets or short shorts please.

As the weather starts to warm up and we prepare for the upcoming wet season, parents are asked to ensure their children bring water

bottles to school each day. It is also important that next term those students who are walking to and from school or catching the bus,

have a raincoat or umbrella packed in the event of a sudden downpour.

Work place safety is everybody’s responsibility. Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School has a Work Health and Safety team that meet

regularly, if you have any school concerns that you would like to raise with the committee please contact the school as we are carrying

out maintenance work over the holiday.

God bless you all and keep you safe over the break,

Mr. Simon Duffy

Monday 16h September, 2019

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

RE: School Swimming Programme Term 4, 2019 - Casuarina Pool Swimming Programme begins on Monday 28

th October (Week 3) and concludes on Thursday 7

th November (Week 4).

There are no lessons on Friday of each week.

Cost of Swimming Programme is $64 per student. Payment is due to our office prior to commencement of lessons. Please do not hesitate in making contact with our front office if you wish to discuss a payment plan for this.

Timetable of lessons is currently being coordinated with Royal Life Saving Instructors and Casuarina Pool staff. Lessons will take place from 8:30 – 1:15pm each day (excluding Friday). Once timetable is set it cannot be altered.

This programme not only looks at stroke development, but survival and rescue skills. It is important for children to learn these necessary skills and to familiarise themselves with what to do in case of an emergency. Our swimming programme is a part of the Physical Education Programme here at school, therefore an expectation that all students participate.

To ensure children benefit from this programme, we are asking parents/caregivers to inform the office of any changes to children’s current swimming level. Our records have been updated from our 2018 programme, however if your child has taken part in further lessons out of school hours through your local swimming club then we must see evidence of a certificate to move your child into the next level. We only accept Royal Life Saving Certificates attained by students.

For students new to Holy Spirit, please ensure we are provided evidence of a current Royal Life Saving Swimming Certificate. We must cite the original certificate rather than a photocopy. For any students who do not have a current swimming level, instructors will carry out assessment on the first day of lessons.

Please do not hesitate in speaking with me should you require clarification.

Kind Regards, Paula Sellars Deputy Principal/PE Coordinator
