3) a) Discussion and adoption of standard link proposal (as described in '62 MMF con loss

and draft worst case configuration' by David Cunningham)There was general support on the call for the standard link proposed above and there was no e-mail commentary on the standard link proposal had been received. An informal vote on adopting the standard link proposal for task 2 yielded 8 for, 0 against and 4 abstaining. A comment was noted that the potential for connector vibration was still a concern, but that it should not hold up adoption of the standard link as proposed.

b) Discussion and proposal to adopt GR-63 CORE for office environment conditions It was agreed this standard gives the most comprehensive description of testing for an in-building operating environment. Robert Coenen agreed to put together a propose adopting GR-63-CORE as the basis of vibration testing.

c) Discussion of next steps for task 2: where do we go from here ?First step is to make preliminary vibration measurements on a standard link and review - expectation was that this would help define further steps.Task 2 modelers need a finalized channel model from task 1 for work to proceed. Some effects (eg polarization rotation) can be modeled more easily and show the worst case variation of IPRs; its difficult to model fibre movement and relate to IPR change though. The link between physical perturbation and impulse response variation probably needs to be determined experimentally - modeling peak variation would be a valuable sanity check on experiments. Task 2 needs to confer with the channel model ad hoc group to clearly define the input required on time variation effects, in preparation for the September interim.
