The Final WordWith the last newsletter of the school year, comes my final thoughts on another exciting and rewarding year
at Norwood. I feel, reflecting on the whole year, that the school is continuing to improve and develop. Not
only our environment and grounds, but also in
providing a fun, stimulating and challenging learning experience for children and parents alike.
Once again the year seems to have flown by and the snow and ice of January are a long and distant memory. It has been an incredibly busy year with more activities,
events and clubs being run which has meant a very hectic year for all the staff at Norwood. I would like to offer my thanks, on your behalf, to all the staff for their unceasing hard work, energy, enthusiasm and flexibility over the year in giving so
much effort beyond their job of class teaching. I would like to offer thanks particularly to Mrs Gregson, Mrs Williams and Mrs King in the school office for ensuring the school organisation runs as smoothly and effectively as it can with so much going on. Once
again, Mr Hesketh and his housekeeping team of Mrs Brown, Mrs Corrie, Mrs Norris and Mrs Trees have kept the school in tip top condition. Mrs Wilson and her staff of Mrs Glinn, Mrs Marshall, Mrs McDowell and Mrs Howard deserve our thanks for their
work in providing us with healthy and tasty meals. Our Midday Supervisors do a
terrific job in ensuring the children have a happy and safe lunchtime. That we have improved the newsletter even further this year and still managed to produce a weekly edition is down to the incredible drive and determination of Mrs Gore and her team of
able and enthusiastic writers. All parents and children find the newsletter invaluable in providing that extra bit of news and communication of the “goings on” at Norwood.
We have so much to write about and this is something we should all be proud of. Long
may it continue. Finally I wish all our leavers - Year 6 children, Mrs Phelps and Mrs King - lots of happiness and success in the future and wish everyone else a much
needed break and some quality family time over the summer. See you in September!
Leaver's ServiceOur annual Leaver's Service will be taking place at Leyland Road Methodist Church at
9.30 am on Wednesday 21st July. This will be a special time for Year 6 children who are leaving Norwood to go to their secondary schools. It will also be an opportunity to
award new school awards to children who have been nominated in recognition for
their hard work and effort in a number of areas. These awards are:The Milne Trophy for Outstanding Involvement in the Life of the School
The Prince Cup for Excellence and Enthusiasm in English
The Lawson Trophy for being an Excellent Role Model for Norwood The Head Teacher's Award for Excellence and Enthusiasm in Mathematics
The Norwood Sports Award for Enthusiasm and Dedication in Sport.

This year we held our first Chess Challenge as 18 KS2 children took part in 7 rounds of chess to see
who would be the inaugural winner of the Norwood Chess trophy. After a tense battle over
the weeks Liam Campbell emerged as the
undefeated winner with Jack Morrison-Williams runner up and Jordan Scutt and Luke Dempster
tied for third.

Star of the Week
PTA Barn Dance
Thank you to everybody for supporting the barn dance. A great night was had by all! Look out for the next events coming up in September.
Outstanding Behaviour!
After the summer holidays we will be launching our new discipline policy. Following our behaviour audit, extens on our school field 10-12pm, ive consultation and trialling, we have produced a policy with exciting incentives to reward good behaviour and clearly defined sanctions. It’s really important that everyone understands how the new policy will work. Children will have the policy explained in a series of assemblies at the start of the new school year; parents and carers will be provided with an information leaflet outlining the policy. In the meantime, here is a reminder of our school rules for you to discuss with your child, in preparation for next term:
We listen. We are honest. We work hard.We are gentle.
We look after property.
Southport YMCA Playin' Out Team
The Playin’ Out team will be running play sessions through the summer
holidays, on our school field on Tuesday
mornings 10-12pm, starting Tuesday 27th July. During the holiday sessions activities will include willow weaving,
den building, cheerleading and street dancing, along with the usual games and activities we have already been
doing.
Thank you again for your kind support.

This academic year the school has supported the Southport Lifeboat for their adopted charity.
Money has been raised from donations at school events and cake sales. Representatives from the School Council went to
the Lifeboat House on Thursday evening to present the
cheque to the Lifeboat crew. The cheque was for an amazing £801! A very big thank you from the School Council
for your support and extreme generosity.
Pictured are Sol, Callum, Emma, Molly, Bethany, Joshua, Lewis and Charlie.
The PTA have also donated money to the Southport Lifeboat
this year. Their magnificent cheque for £720 was also presented.
The Chairman, Neil Rothwell was absolutely delighted with the cheques, as the Southport Lifeboat is an
independent charity (not government or RNLI funded) and
relies solely on local support.

Year 2 had great fun on Friday when they came to school dressed as explorers. The morning started
with an exploration into the rainforest (rain and all), to search for new species of animals hidden around the woods. Afterwards, the children were visited by Scott and Chris who brought snakes and a
chameleon for the children to see. The highlight was watching the
chameleon roll out its tongue to eat a cricket, even some of the teachers
stopped by to watch!

Year 2 Art Club Exhibition
Last Wednesday 14th July an art exhibition was held in Year 2. A big thank you goes out to all the parents who
attended the exhibition and to the children for producing such fantastic work. The exhibition included clay models, prints, paintings and collages that the children had made
in Art Club and the exhibition gave them the chance to display their work for all to see.
