Challenges

In the current competitive market, every hotel aims to provide best-in-class facilities and services to their guests for staying ahead in the competition. With increasing demand of wireless internet service by guests, Ginger Group of Hotels decided to deploy a comprehensive solution delivering smooth and secured internet service at different hotel locations.

“Ginger Group of Hotels desired a comprehensive solution that delivers secured wireless internet service to their guests and allows them to surf from different locations within the hotels property. The solution should be flexible and reliable enough to manage fair distribution of bandwidth among all guests and should be compatible with the existing PMS used in a hotel. The billing and accounting of the internet surfing done by the guests and visitors will be done by the solution and it should also facilitate to create different data plans and packages according to the requirements. The solution should have a facility to design different pre-paid coupons and avail them in printable format based on the packages. It should have the facility to send messages having credentials detail to the guests thru SMS gateway”, said Mr. Roshan Premraj, Sr. Manager Information Technology, Ginger Group.

The major challenge was integration of a centralized server that communicates in the network with a centralized PMS and manages entire guest requests from different hotels at various locations. Moreover, Users should be created in the centralized server and Property Management System used at the hotel should be integrated with the centralized system. And complete log of reports including guest check-in, room change and accounting details should be available at the centralized server.

Solutions

After considering major requirements and network architecture of Ginger Group of Hotels, 24online proposed a solution suiting their needs with following features –

Deployment of 24online solution in distributed mode

24online can be configured as Access Gateway or AAA or Single-Box (Access Gateway & RADIUS) as per the requirement of the network. As per the Ginger network scenario, 24online configured as Access Gateway is deployed at different hotel locations. 24online access gateway restricts internet access to unauthorized guests. It sends the login request received from the end guest to 24online AAA server for the confirmation of credentials received are valid or not. Based on the successful

24online system is integrated with the SMS gateway by which necessary functions and actions in the system can

authentication, 24online allows access to the guest. And 24online AAA server is deployed at the centralized level in the network. All access gateway deployed at different hotel locations are configured to the centralized AAA server. And after receiving the credentials from the access gateway request for guest check-in or check-out, centralized RADIUS (24online server) applies it to number of checks whether the details of the guest, network address, account status, access privileges etc. are coming from an authorized source. The centralized AAA server will differentiate each Access Gateway request according to the Access Gateway IP defined in each server. When the guest logs off the account, Access Gateway sends final details of the user in terms of time, packets transferred, data transferred, and other information to the RADIUS (24online server) for discontinuing the accounting status. Complete information of the guest and billing details are stored at the centralized AAA server.

With smooth communication between PMS and centralized RADIUS server, all users, packages, policies, rooms and room type configuration are stored at the centralized server.

Package and Room Management at Centralized Server

Internet Package Management

Internet package is basically, a combined product of different set of policies and schedules. Package is integrated with the different policies like Surfing quota policy, Access time policy, Bandwidth policy, and Data Transfer Policy with a rate scheme. Facility to create variety of package considering the guest requirement is availed to the solution administrator.

Room Management

24online also offered the facility to create various rooms and room-types in the system according to the hotel. Administrator can now assign specific default package to each room type as complimentary internet plan for guests. And whenever any guest checks-in, 24online automatically assigns the default package to the guest. Moreover, creating rooms and assigning package to each room type is not mandatory and administrator is free to define the room type and package, as and when required.

Case Study

24online offered its advanced feature, Websurfing Logger, a report using which maintaining the track of websites and applications surfed by guests or users. Complete reporting of the surfing details of the users can be availed in different printable and graphical formats. This helps in ensuring the security of the network as well as in maintaining the network performance and

be enabled. Gateway configurations are necessary to setup link with the SMS gateway through which all the SMS actions is performed. On successful configuration with 24online, automatic requests for check-in, package expiry or promotional advertisements can be sent to the guest.

Websurfing Logger

24online also offered Audit Log report which is dedicated to store all the actions performed by the user administrating 24online system. It gives complete details on all the actions performed and actions performed by, with IP address from where the action has been taken. As this feature provides time and duration of action performed, it helps in tracking any insecure admin login resulting into data loss.

Understanding the importance of reports in a dynamic network, 24online offered different MIS reports by which administrator can view the complete details of all the guests' check-in/check-out, Internet usage as well as accounting reports from the centralized server.
