For the past few days theTraction Company h as had -ti large forceor men at work on North Main, bet weenTwenty-third street and Marine, breakingthe ground preparatory to putting In adouble track. T he track which is belnsU K I I at pr esent has been tak en ui andre*et rour to five reet nearer the westcurb or the street, forcing the Hosenwhich has a rranchise to lay track onthe west side of the street almost to tlproperly line. This complication of maters places all three tracks on one sideof the street with but little spacecast side or the street- Property ownersor Main street are antagonizing thisand are urging the counfil to rorce theTraction Company to lay its tracks nearer the east curb allowing Rosen's trackto le laid closer in to the cente r of thestreet . The Traction Company was represented at the meeting last nlKht byAttorneys Capps an.l On ly and General Manager Haines, who argued thatthe company was taking the propercourse m the matter and that It wasbetter to have the three tracks rearer oneside of the street than to hvve only asmall space for traffic on either side ofthe tracks. The council discussed thematter, but as usual no action was takenami the situation remains as it has beensiiiea the granting of the franchise tothe Traction Company for double trarkagaon Mam street.

On the north end of Main the etreet Isvery narrow, being orly about elphty feetwide and the placirg of three tracks onthe s treet will senouI> conflict 'Hhteaming aHid other traffic. 6am Rosenseme time ago placed rails across th>two small culver ts betwren EvfrMUWavenue and Marine to hold his Fight TOthis portion of the street, but wlih theremoval of the Traction Company's trackfour feet we st th ere Is enly a rpnee ofabout one foot left between the tnff outside rails of the two lines

The council discussed the fraichlequestion in all of it* pbas.s. but come tono definite con clusion ami It Is left lothe two companies to fight It out a* letthey can.The major, in vetoing a n ordJnan*"e !a recent called meetin g, stated th at hs>did not favor the grantin g of a frarwhleewhich would conflict wHn public of private ir.tereMs and that th- council shouldat all times give such que-nUms ampleconsideration before taking final aellnnbut In signing the ordinance KKlng th-Trnction Company a right to lay. operateand maintain a dauble track on Mainstreet It seems that this question did notget this consideration.
