February 2019February is here! At Raintree Terrace, love is in the air! We are planning severalnew and fun activties to show just how much our residents mean and how muchlove they deserve. We are helping your loved ones have the best quality of life thatthey can have. A dimension of wellness that we are focusing on this month isNutrition. We will be educating residents on healthy eating choices in our newFood For Thought Classes. We are also incorporating some exercise classes, intergenerational programs, as well as national day activities. It wil be an excitingmonth!

WOW MomentsAssisted Living--- Fran G's Cooking History-- Can you believe it? Fran is 94 years young. She has been a cook since she was 9 years old. Her favorite category of food to cook isbreakfast. When she was young, her father passed away and her mother worked outsidethe home. So, Fran learned to run the house and to cook from her mom. She made mealsfor her family and made food for some "drifters" from the railroad tracks by the farm. Sheloves to cook eggs and cookies. Her mother bought her a cookbook and she put it togood use. She raised chickens on the farm and would cook using some of the eggs andproduce. She grew up a little north of Memphis, Tennessee. She later became a highschool Geography Teacher and impacted many people's lives.

Memory Care---This month's WOW Moment in Memory Care happened through a group ofchildren who love to read. In January we started a Grand Buddies Reading Program wherehomeschooled children come and read to the residents. It's a win-win situation becuasethe children are increasing their literacy skills and the interaction that they provide withthe residents is a beautiful sight. It has been helping our residents in memory with theirshort-term and long-term memory, social skills, auditory skills, and calms them. Theresidents have loved the children reading and the children have loved having anaudience. We love reading books!
