GAME CITY & MLIMANI CITY EXPANSION

22

Phase 4 development works at Game City

are moving rapidly and we’ll soon have

a complete fully functional mega mall as

planned. The upper level area where we

will have the food court is almost complete

with the IT node facing the eateries, already

completed and tenanted. The food outlets

are fully let and will be occupied early next

year.

The lower level which will be our fashion

mall is taking shape well and we already

have some shops completely reconfigured,

tenanted and ready to start trading. The

centre court of the mall will be cleared of

construction works by end of November 2015

for Festive season trade. The fitting of ceiling

by the Foschini Court and Edgars Court is

complete. Expansion work on the new wing

is on-going and the works are expected to be

finished by May 2016 as scheduled.

With the on-going electricity and water

shortages in Gaborone, we are making

arrangements to provide generators as well

as water storage capacity so that tenants

and customers will not be inconvenienced.

The Mlimani City Phase 3 development works

are moving on at a brisk pace. The expansion

to the mall with, basement parking will

comprise a banking court, additional retail

areas and reconfiguration of the restaurant

court. The Conference Centre works will

comprise of additional meeting rooms, VIP

lounge and serviced kitchen. Further works

comprise of two additional office blocks and

a botanic garden.

The basement parking is almost complete

while additions to the conference centre is

well in progress. The additional office Park

is at foundation slab level.

The Mlimani City expansion works are

detached from the existing structures. Hence

there is only minimal business interruption

to the existing operations.

The project is scheduled to be completed on

time and on budget in June 2016.

I studied for a Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel Management with a minor in Psychology from Johnson and Wales University, Rhode Island, USA. With over ten years’ experience in the property field. I worked with GH Group and Khumo Property Asset Management as Property Administrator and Estate Manager. In my current position as a Centre Manager I oversee the overall running of the mall and tenant relations matters.

The first indoor mall in Botswana with a natural scenery of the Kgale Hill presents a family oriented environment with a tenant mix that caters for different living standard markets.

With more than 120 shops, the mall still continues to grow. We have a wide range of offerings that comprises of clothing shops, boutiques , shoe outlets, jewellers, restaurants, banks, perfumes, sports shops, beauty parlours, service providers, furniture stores, pharmacies, home wares and a doctor. After thirteen years of existence our mall is still fully let with a high demand for shop space.

What motivates me is my passion to provide good customer service, good tenant relations and my team that gives me support in my day to day duties. It has been a very challenging however fruitful year for the whole team with the current on-going construction which we are anxiously waiting for. The end results which will be a quality urban life style mall.

I am a very pleasant, nurturing, family oriented, a sister to three siblings, and an auntie to two nieces and one nephew. I enjoy reading and cooking.

What motivates me is my

passion to provide good

customer service

“We are jubilant and are settled. We came with an aim to create more jobs within East Africa and for investment purposes and Mlimani city happened to be the best place for business. Since we opened we are seeing positive growth month after month. Business is doing well. We are planning to extend and acquire more space of about 5000m2. We would like to see more security, the installation of more CCTV, so that customers can feel more secure when they come to the mall. In a period of 2 years, we are supposed to have about 6 brands in Tanzania Dar Es Salaam and we are looking to expand to Mwanza and Mbeya and other towns within Tanzania.

On 05th June 2015, United Nations Environment Program celebrated World Environment Day to raise awareness about environmental issues and call for action. This year’s theme is sustainable lifestyles.

The topic is a particularly powerful one, because there’s room for everyone to take a moment to question how we live and how it impacts the planet. The theme asks everyone to evaluate our consumer habits: how we shop, eat and travel.Living well within planetary boundaries is the most promising strategy for ensuring a healthy future.”Each year, every organization runs several

campaigns create awareness on the environment upkeep Environmental organizations, schools and groups of all kinds typically organize events leading up to and taking place on June 5.

The Mlimani City team in collaboration with Vodacom Tanzania Limited took one step extra in participating in creating safer, cleaner and healthier future. All the members of the staff participated in cleaning campaign of all surrounding areas taking it to a distance of 4km. This involved educating our tenants and the general public on the importance of environment preservations and methods involved. Indeed it was a day to remember.

Water scarcity has been singled out as a major challenge towards economic growth stimulation in the country.Shortage of wa-ter is posing a great challenge. Without water, it is always a challenge to stimulate growth of the economy in all sectors.Botswana receives water through rainfall and recently the weather patterns have be-come very unpredictable cul-minating in dwindled pre-cipitations.

Water demand or level of usage increases with time and as the population ex-plodes paralleled by grow-ing economic performance of the country, water de-mand exceeds supply.

Hospitals, schools, restaurants and other businesses in the greater Gaborone area are forced to improvise with some having to close shops completely as reality strikes in that without water their businesses are doomed. In the short term, Game city has installed several back up water tanks to supply ten-ants and customers during water cuts. A borehole has also been commissioned to sup-

ply water for construction activities.

In the long term, the borehole will provide water for gardening irrigation, cleaning and toilet flushing system. A water stor-age system, will be commissioned to provide tenants and customers with an interrupted water supply during water cuts.

One can only hope that, water shortage as we currently experience it, stands to awaken us forever as we move for-ward

POWER SUPPLY SHORTAGEThe current heat wave

has also increased demand from cooling systems i.e. refrigeration and air conditioning. The phenomenon has re-sulted in our national demand significantly exceeding supply and has inevitably led to prolonged load shedding exercise being ex-perienced throughout the country.

Game city already has several generators to provide the mall with power during a power outage.
