Principal’s Reflection
Dear Families,
Children were reminded at assembly this week about the importance of treating others with
love, respect and kindness at all times, which is part of our Making Jesus Real (MJR)
programme. Each week at assembly we have an award called the MJR award that is given
to a member of the school community who displays the above mentioned qualities and puts
enthusiasm, energy and happiness into our school and is a team player. Refer to page 2 of
the newsletter to see who will receive the MJR award this week.
A big thank you to the students, staff and parents for their involvement in our Holy Spirit Feast
Day, last week. The day was a great community event where we were all reminded how the
Holy Spirit touches all our lives and makes our school so special.
Next week marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week. The week offers an
opportunity for all Australians to focus on reconciliation and celebrate the rich culture and history of Indigenous
Australians. Our students will celebrate this week in a number of ways including a special assembly, guest
presenters and a Reconciliation Morning tea hosted by our Years 5/6 students and teachers along
with Jenny Kuhl our Indigenous Student Support Worker. The Reconciliation morning tea is open to
all members of our community and will be held on Monday 29th May at from 9:30-10:30am. We
pray that the Spirit will gather all people as one family, one community and one nation.
There is much enthusiasm across the Year 5/6 classes in the lead up to school camp at Camp
Wallaroo, next week. School camps make up an important part of our school curriculum as they provide a chance for
our students to learn in an environment outside of the classroom. The students benefit in a myriad of ways. It will be
fantastic to see different talents and aspects of student personalities during our time away.
Our major fundraiser for this year, our annual Dance-a-thon will be held on Friday 23rd June, the last day of term.
Students have been given a sponsorship form to raise funds leading up to the Dance-a -thon. For every dollar that
the school raises the Catholic Education Office will match dollar for dollar up to $9000, so please dig
deep. This year we are fund raising to repair and upgrade the upstairs toilets which are used by our
Year 3- 6 students and to purchase additional resources for our robotics programme. If you’re child
has misplaced their sponsorship form, please collect one from the front office.
A reminder that our school photos will be taken this Friday, 26th May. Please make sure that children are in
correct school uniform.
God bless you all and keep you safe,
Mr. Simon Duffy
Principal

LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDOW Year 3/4, Rm.13 with Miss Kelsey
Welcome to room 13! We are having a very busy term so far in
year 3/4, exploring new concepts and investigating interesting
things!
This term we have been learning skills in coding, and doing
different activities to learn coding skills. Last week, we made
mazes which students had to code their way through using a set
of specific symbols. We have also been doing lots of fun activi-
ties with our buddies. On Friday, Holy Spirit feast Day, we
were lucky enough to team up with room 8 to participate in lots
of fun activities. SNAPPY SIX

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT POLICY – UPDATE
Dear Parents/Carers,
A focus for our school in 2016 was to update our Positive
Behaviour Support Policy and Agreed Practices with support
from staff, students and members of our School Board.
To ensure all members of Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School
are informed and updated, information will be provided through
our weekly newsletter explaining policy and procedures in
place. We encourage you to take the time each week to discuss
this as a family. Please do not hesitate in speaking with
classroom teachers or members of school leadership for
clarification as required.
Kind Regards,
Paula Sellars
Deputy Principal
Positive Behaviour Update 16:
Playground Expectations
At Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School we:
Respect ourselves and each other
Respect all property
Respect our environment
Our Playground Policy explains the above points in further
detail.
While out in the playground students are encouraged to play/
socialise with their peer group while keeping in mind our Holy
Spirit Positive Behaviour Support Agreed Practices. There are
three teachers out on duty to provide duty of care, as well as
support students as required. While out playing, students may
receive a Red Card for inappropriate behaviour. A reminder
that when this occurs an Incident Report will be sent home and
student will then be required to participate in Community
Service during lunch.
In addition, our teachers are also on the lookout for positive
behaviour which can be recognised and acknowledged at our
weekly assembly with a Making Jesus Real (MJR) award.
At Holy Spirit, we promote and encourage positive behaviour
from all members of our school community. Our staff is there
to guide and act as a positive role model to assist students in
their decision making when out in the playground.
