Mother baked a pan of pudding. She cut it into 10 equal parts. What part of the whole is each of the equal parts?

You can write the name of each part as . You can also write it in a

Two parts of the pudding can be written as 0.2; 3 parts is written as

0.3; 4 parts is written as 0.4; and so on. Notice that you find a dot at the left side of 1 (0.1), 2 (0.2), 3 (0.3), and 4 (0.4). This dot is called decimal point. The decimal point tells that the number is less than a whole or part of a whole.

The expression 0.2 is read as two-tenths .

The expression 0.3 is read as three-tenths The expression 0.4 is read as four-tenths The digits 2, 3 and 4 are found or written one place after the decimal

point. Therefore, the decimals 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 are called one-place decimals.

0.5 is a one place decimal. You read it as five-tenths. How will you read these one-place decimals? 0.6 0.8 0.9 0.7
