Asbestos can be liable to create hazards to human health and/or the environment

According to MSC.1/Circ.1379, SOLAS Reg. II-/3-5 and IACS SC 249, the constructor needs to have a 100 % Non-Asbestos Supplier List available for inspection by Flag State Authority / Recognized Organizations. The yard also needs to maintain and update the list.

In addition to the key components, modern vessels contains tens of thousands components with materials which can be liable to create hazards to human health and/or the environment. New buildings keel laid after 1st of July 2012 shall deliver an Asbestos Free Declaration (AFD) / statement from the shipyard, WRJHWKHU�ZLWK�D�½OH�RI�GRFXPHQWDWLRQ�FRQWDLQLQJ�$)'�IRU�DOO�PDWHULDO�DQG�FRPSRQHQWV�GHOLYHUHG�WR�WKH�VKLS��The same rules & regulations will have the same impact on repair work on existing ships.
