It is a great opportunity to spiritually tap into a power made available to all of us. How do we do this? I would like to suggest a few ways: First, Live without Fear: If Jesus can overcome the worst that evil and sin can throw at him, we have great reason to live without fear in our lives. God is in control. God walks with us and will help us to pass through whatever difficulties we experience. We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose(Rom 8:28). This is not idle church- speak – this is the truth. Say noto fear and anxiety and choose to trust in the one who is most trustworthy. Second, Receive Joy: When we live with the knowledge that we do not walk alone through life and dont always have to have the answers, we are free to let God be God in our lives. If things dont always turn out the way we plan, we can surrender to the better plan that God has for us and our loved ones. Joy does not depend on the circumstances in our lives. How often the saints had a constant joy through all their trials. God intends all of us to have this joy! Third, Live Victoriously: If it is true that Jesus has conquered sin and death, all the other difficulties that come our way are in the hands of God too. We can choose to live as if we are truly children of God, with a supernatural dignity and an eternal destiny, or we can choose to live as if we are in the hands of fate. How much joy God receives from us when we walk through life with our heads up, cheerful, thankful and trusting in Gods providence for us. We have the greatest reason to walk with hope and courage, knowing that the ruler of the universe has our back! Over the next few weeks, I invite you to live boldly and with joy! We were made for this, but each day we need to grasp the power that God offers us during these days of Easter! Fr. Kevin

Easter: The Power to Transform Our Lives

Easter began last weekend and continues for 50 days. “We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose” (Rom 8:28). This is not idle church- speak – this is the truth. Say “no” to fear and anxiety and choose to trust in the one who is most trustworthy. Second, Receive Joy: When we live with the knowledge that we do not walk alone through life and don’t always have to have the answers, we are free to let God be God in our lives. If things don’t always turn out the way we plan, we can surrender to the better plan that God has for us and our loved ones. How much joy God receives from us when we walk through life with our heads up, cheerful, thankful and trusting in God’s providence for us. We have the greatest reason to walk with hope and courage, knowing that the ruler of the universe has our back! Over the next few weeks, I invite you to live boldly and with joy! We were made for this, but each day we need to grasp the power that God offers us during these days of Easter! Fr. Kevin

Reflection…

by Rev. Leonard N. Peterson

During this prolonged national and worldwide bout with a virus whose name none of us will ever forget, there has been some welcome comic relief. I have enjoyed that which has been provided by signs. These delights were posted on social media. I learned of a small restaurant in Texas called “El Arroyo” whose fame for good margaritas has been topped by its ever-changing outdoor signs. They have attracted worldwide attention because of worldwide exposure. One of my favor-ites displayed this past Winter was this: “My trash goes out more than I do.” This happening led me to think about all kinds of signs. In St. John’s gospel, signs play a major role, because that is how Our Lord’s miracles are labelled. Beginning with the event at Cana, the author presents six other “signs.” You and I reading about them are ineluctably drawn to the only possible conclu-sion: Jesus is God. The Resurrection of Jesus, the greatest sign, and leaves no doubt of that. For a skeptic like the Apostle Thomas, who is after all, a saint in heaven, he has been given that unfortunate nickname of “The Doubter.” Admittedly, he does react with doubt to the breathless account of his brother Apostles about the risen Lord’s appearance among them. He sets conditions for his personal faith. A week later, there is great drama in the room when Jesus reappears and meets all of Thomas’ require-ments.” I have always imagined that scene this way. A stunned and tearful Thomas, embarrassed and feeling alone, instantly falls down on his knees before Jesus, and in a burst of beautiful humility, makes that profound act of faith: “My Lord and my God.” Especially helpful for us, who have doubts from time to time, is the response of Our Lord. He looks lovingly into Thomas’ eyes, as the poor man gets back up, and says those words that echo down the centuries with comfort and hope: “Blessed are those who have not seen Me but have believed.” Dr. John Vannorsdall, former chaplain at Yale University, brought up a question about all this when He wrote in striking words: “If God raised Jesus from the dead, why didn’t God fix Him up? Why scars? Why the print of nails that you could feel with your fingers? Can it be that the gospel is saying: ‘You will not see Jesus Christ unless you see the wounds?’ Somehow we must understand that the resurrected Christ is forever the wounded Christ. Living, but never fixed up.” On this Divine Mercy Sunday, may our wounded God show you His mercy every day, and give you His peace.

Motel Shelter Meal Support and More!

We are excited to once again reach out to individuals and families in Morris County who are struggling with homelessness and guide them to a positive new journey in life. While many of our host weeks are covered by our wonderful supportive congregations, we still have weeks open on the calendar. Weeks assigned to congregations will be "hosted" by those volunteers. For the weeks that are open, we are kindly asking for support from all congregations and community volunteers. The following link is to our Sign-Up Genius for those open weeks. Sunday, Apr 11, 2021SOLEMNITY OF THE SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER; DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY

Hold onto the holy memoriesIt’s unlikely that those who survive the pandemic will look back onthese days with much nostalgia. Sickness and loss, fear anddivision, stress and isolation: The consequences will be with us fora generation. Yet emerging from the tragedy were also instancesof humanity, decency, and heroism that echoed the time of the firstapostles. We’ve shared food, masks, information, errands, toiletpaper, songs. We’ve gathered on balconies and in virtual rooms. We’ve found ways to pray and to encourage. This Divine MercySunday, give thanks for those who have helped you through thisand every crisis.

TODAY'S READINGS: Acts 4:32-35; 1 John 5:1-6; John 20:19-31 (44).“No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but theyhad everything in common.”

Monday, Apr 12, 2021EASTER WEEKDAY

Stand with those who stood for youThough you may not remember it, your Baptism was an extremelyimportant day in your life—the beginning of your life in Christ. Yourgodparents represented you that day, speaking on your behalf ifyou were a baby. Perhaps later you became a godparent toothers. Whether you’re still close or have drifted apart over time, reach out to your godparents or godchildren and reminisce aboutthat day. Talk about the role you have played in each other’sspiritual life and pray together for deepening conversion. Promiseto keep on praying for each other in our ever-growing identity aschildren of God.

TODAY'S READINGS: Acts 4:23-31; John 3:1-8 (267). “Amen, amen, Isay to you, unless one is born of water and Spirit he cannot enterthe Kingdom of God.”

Tuesday, Apr 13, 2021MEMORIAL OF MARTIN I, POPE, MARTYR

The dilemma of indifferenceThe Eastern Church began exploring monotheletism, the notionthat Jesus had only a divine will, despite being both human anddivine, in the 600s. Pope Martin I issued a reprimand, opposingthis heresy. This angered the Eastern emperor, who had the sicklyMartin dragged to Constantinople for trial. The pontiff was beaten, starved, and exiled, leading to his death. But Martin also blamed aWestern Church that never came to his rescue. “I am surprised atthe indifference,” he wrote, of “those who belong to the church ofSaint Peter.” Ask for Martin’s intercession today, for all who sufferindifference.

TODAY'S READINGS: Acts 4:32-37; John 3:7b-15 (268). “Thecommunity of believers was of one heart and mind.”

Wednesday, Apr 14, 2021EASTER WEEKDAY

Let your life be your witnessHow do you live your faith? Some days may be harder thanothers, but rarely, if ever nowadays, will the effort to be a faithfulfollower of Jesus land someone in jail or cost them their life. Yetthat was the fate of the early disciples who insisted on proclaimingthe stories of Jesus’ life, death, and rising. There are 20th-centurymartyrs as well (Blessed Stanley Rother, Sister Dorothy Stang,SNDdeN, the martyrs of El Salvador among others), but faith calls

all of us to kindness to all people, fairness in the face of injustice, trust in God’s promised Spirit, and a constant willingness to seethe face of God in our neighbors. Do people recognize you as afollower of Jesus by the way you live?

TODAY'S READINGS: Acts 5:17-26; John 3:16-21 (269). “The menwhom you put in prison are in the temple area and are teaching thepeople.”

Thursday, Apr 15, 2021EASTER WEEKDAY

Be up to the tax at handTaxes are due today, an obligation that few people savor and yetall of us rely on. Catholics can feel proud to promote the commongood by paying taxes for schools, roads, parks, healthcare, andother social benefits. In their pastoral letter, Economic Justice forAll, the U.S. bishops go even further, saying: “The tax systemshould be continually evaluated in terms of its impact on the poor.”If you feel disheartened by the paperwork or the cost of taxes, takeheart that despite any flaws in the system, taxes help build thecommonwealth.

TODAY'S READINGS: Acts 5:27-33, John 3:31-36 (270). “The Fatherloves the Son and has given everything over to him.”

Friday, Apr 16, 2021EASTER WEEKDAY

A God of his wordPoor communication is the main reason relationships fail. If it isn’tclear what is being promised, then it is easy to becomedisillusioned when expectations aren’t met. People who lose faithin God often point to God’s untrustworthiness: They asked forsomething and didn’t receive it. Hence, they conclude that God isnot to be trusted. But remember the promise of God is love. Lookaround; wherever you see love—even a love lost—you see God’spromise fulfilled. As Saint Augustine put it: “What does love looklike? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to thepoor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has theears to hear the sighs and sorrows of others.” Help embody God’slove today.

TODAY'S READINGS: Acts 5:34-42; John 6:1-15 (271). “This is truly theProphet, the one who is to come into the world.”

Saturday, Apr 17, 2021EASTER WEEKDAY

Call a deaconThe word “deacon” is derived from the Greek word diákonos, meaning “one who serves at table,” found in today’s first reading. The office of deacon endured for several centuries after its originin Acts. But eventually the diaconate was reduced to a temporarystage of ordination to the priesthood. After Vatican II thepermanent diaconate was revived. Today many men, mostmarried although some single, enter the diaconate through thesacrament of Holy Orders. They serve their parishes and assisttheir pastors in many ways both social and liturgical. Perhaps youknow someone who would make a good deacon. Give him a call.

TODAY'S READINGS: Acts 6:1-7; John 6:16-21 (272). “It is not right forus to neglect the word of God to serve at table.”
