FEATURED ARTIST
KIRSTI GROTMOL, NorwayREFLECTIONS – My Bulgarian Travel33 photographs variable size
My first visit to Bulgaria was in 2011. I was immediately captured by the charm of the old capital Sofia. But it was Georgi Kolev who made me love the countryside. He took me to soft green landscapes, remote monasteries and his native village Lessidren. He introduced me to the villagers. And they trustfully let me photograph them. I was moved by their dignity and simple life, their
smiles and friendliness. I saw rela-tionships between people far more important than material wealth.I saw their natural bonds with their goats, mules and other livestock. It was like travelling into my inner landscapes, a reflection of my child-hood memories.
Kirsti Grotmol

During the exhibition one of my camera heroes tragically passed away.
The lady with the sonorous name ANKA is a very special person for the village with a dramatic destiny which shesucceed to turn into a positive way of living – all of her time she spent leading together with Yoto Petkov (another important personality of the village) the meat factory and the farm belonging.
When Georgi told me the sad news we decided to dedicate
a page to ANKA and to the purport of her life – the meat factory where most ofthe villagers have their job.
When in March 2011 I visited the farm and the factory meeting ANKA and making my photographic work I have never thought how a creation of an artist today can turn into a history saving the memory tomorrow…

Students enrolled in Upper-Level Painting at Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, in the Fall 2014 semes-ter, developed an exhibit of small work paintings following the guidelines to enter the Lessedra Art Gallery’s: 5th Painting & Mixed Media Competition 2014-15 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Each student created a series of three 5” x 5” paintings that were exhibited in a hallway show in Art Building I on campus. The project also involved digitally documenting and re-sizing these paintings to learn how to enter other juried exhibitions. Additionally, students learned how to compose and create in a small compositional area with relationships for painting in multiples.Furthermore, Slippery Rock University’s Art Faculty jury selected one student’s artwork from this hallway exhibition to submit entry into the 5th Lessedra International Painting & Mixed Media Competition.Heather HertelAssistant Professor, PaintingArt DepartmentSlippery Rock University
