Vassula Ryden: Correspondence with the Bishops and others
The Greek Orthodox at least twice-married divorcee, Mrs. Vassula Ryden, alleged mystic, visited Catholic dioceses in several cities in India, December 2012 against scheduled speaking arrangements in Faridabad [Haryana], New Delhi, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Alleppey [Kerala] and Kolkata.Commencing November 24, 2012, I mailed a brief alert to the Bishops and institutional heads concerned, from details collected from Vassula Ryden’s True Life in God web site.It was followed by a couple of days later by a short report dated November 25, 2012, titled VASSULA RYDEN-PROBLEMS WITH ROME BUT WELCOME IN INDIA http://ephesians-511.net/docs/VASSULA_RYDEN-PROBLEMS_WITH_ROME_BUT_WELCOME_IN_INDIA.docThis report was updated several times on our web site and was concluded January 13, 2013 at 60 pages.A second report titledVASSULA RYDEN-HIERATIC OR HERETIC http://ephesians-511.net/docs/VASSULA_RYDEN-HIERATIC_OR_HERETIC.doc was also released January 13, 2012.Between November 25, 2012 and January 13, 2013, I published three more of my reports and fifty-three articles or compilations of articles by other writers, largely Catholic. One article is from an ecumenical group and four or five from Orthodox sources. The list [titles and links] is at the bottom of this reportThe present report is hopefully the last in the Vassula Ryden series. As its title indicates, it is more of a record of the feedback that this ministry received to the alert of November 25, 2012. Out of necessity and as a practice, I reproduce below models of letters mailed by this ministry to Bishops and Catholic institutional heads. I would rather not apologize here for my reasons for publishing them, which I believe are just. I am however prepared to answer any private mail desiring an explanation.Different models of covering letters to different Church leaders, varying slightly in their composition for obvious reasons were sent to the Church authorities of the different cities.The interested reader will be obliged to sift through the correspondence to find the few positive responses received. To help readily identify them, I will employ different fonts for some of the replies that I received.The correspondence is filed chronologically as far as possible.

Thank you very much for the e-mail regarding Vassula Ryden’s visit to India. Yes, I have been on her TLIG pilgrimage twice – in 2005 and2007. From my experience I do not think she is promoting an ecumenism that is contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church and she is definitely not propagating a “millenianism” as you allege. She has been “warned” by the CDF but not banned. She has also replied to the notification from the CDF. The Vatican should be having several times more, coming as it does in many European languages.If six French bishops have issued a warning letter, and not for the first time, and there have been others too across many nations, it surely must mean something; and, if on the other hand, the Indian bishops have not said anything, it becomes a matter of concern.
How often have the Indian bishops ever come out as one voice or even as a small group other than on a few politically-related issues? I can produce for you many cases where other Bishops' conferences or Theological Commissions have issued pastoral letters and warnings that the Indian bishops would not even be aware of. Those documents are invaluable for laity like me. My close watch has confirmed that the Indian Bishops have, as compared to the Bishops of Korea, Spain, France, the USA, and even humble Croatia, failed to convey to the faithful the teachings of Rome on dozens of crucial issues, and to protect the faithful from erroneous philosophies by issuing timely warnings. So, I don't expect them to warn me against Vassula Ryden.The burden falls on laity like me [Canon Law 212.3] to write to my ecclesiastical superiors and warn other Catholics myself.What I find, and which is expressed with evidence in many investigative reports on my web site, is that many Bishops who should be my pastors and guides are themselves participants in a great deal of error or complicit in it by their silence.I am no qualified expert on these issues, but I do apply myself most diligently to the study -- and defense -- of my Faith.A couple of hours earlier, I published my first report in a series on the errors of the "mystic" Vassula Ryden. I am writing this letter as directed by the President of the KCBC to request you to give immediate directions to the concerned persons, not to call Vassula Rydén a controversial Christian mystic living in Switzerland who claimed to receive messages from Jesus Christ and Blessed Virgin Mary. We came to know that some of the Catholic retreat centres in Kerala and some of our parishes had already invited her for preaching.
In 1995, the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith (CDF) published a notification on the writings of Rydén, saying her communications should not be considered supernatural, and calling all Catholic bishops to prevent Rydén's ideas from being spread in their dioceses. In 2007, Cardinal William Levada, former president of the CDF, confirmed that the 1995 Notification was still in effect; he recommended that Catholics should not join prayer groups organized by Rydén.
May I humbly request you to inform our priests and religious regarding the said matter and take necessary and urgent steps prevent her preaching in our parishes and retreat centres. Kindly note the notification from the CDF below.

Each one examines Vassula Ryden, her "messages" and TLIG from a unique perspective. To affirm once again, in answer to the question that you put to me, Maria Laura Pio is NO Freemason! [I would think that a Mason would encourage and help promote TLIG to enable the destruction of the Church, not crusade against Vassula Ryden's errors.] That is a most ridiculous charge. Would those who have claimed that submit to you evidence to substantiate that claim? Her family are virtual daily communicants and her brother is a priest. I wonder what outlandish slanderous charge is going to be levelled by TLIG against me. I was warned ages ago that TLIG is so much in the fashion of a cult and that prominent ex-members fear to criticize it, Scientology-like. But that does not deter me from doing what I must do as part of this ministry and calling.One must remember what Rome has officially spoken on private revelation and know that Rome has otherwise never openly condemned any alleged locutionary, visionary or seer. They affirm that she is authentic! And THAT EXACTLY is what "worries" them the most, if you understand what I am trying to convey to you. I fully share their concerns. The matter appears to be far more spiritually serious than it looks. In the not-very-long run, if and when the truth comes to light, it will be a disaster for many.
I guess that one has to very "Roman" Catholic today to be able to see through the TLIG subterfuge... and there are apparently not too many Bishops and laity around who can be seen to be that. The referred forward is the very same as the letter from Mr. Paul Datta addressed to my email address, "December 01, 2012 9:31 PM".My guess is that Mr. Agnello was in the BCC of the letter cum testimony of Mr. Paul Datta, having requisitioned it.Another odd thing is that all the Calcutta addressees are the same as those of my alert and also my follow-up letter on Vassula Ryden's programmes in West Bengal of "November 24, 2012 5:30 PM" and "November 27, 2012 8:20 AM".
What one can deduce is that either one of the Archbishops or Fr Stephen Raphael forwarded my letters to them to Mr Paul Datta.This is most shocking not because the letter was forwarded by one of them, which I welcome, but because not one of them had replied to me against my legitimate concerns on so serious an issue [it would have been vastly different if they had] but instead sent it to one of "their own", Mr Paul Datta and/or Mr. Agnello. Mr. Paul Datta's response was his letter cum testimony in which he addresses "Dear All" even though I am supposed to be the principal recipient. Courtesy or a Christian spirit demands that he address me against my alert. A copy [BCC, I presume] of the same is received by Mr. Agnello in Bombay who sends it to Archbishop Vincent in Delhi who forwards it to you who kindly forwarded it to me. Even more, a copy of the same was marked by Mr. Paul Datta to Fr Allwyn Misquitta, the Asst. Parish Priest of Don Bosco's Church, Borivali, who is in Mumbai and outside the immediate loop of addressees. Again, Archbishop Vincent had telephoned me last evening to ask me a few questions related to my alert on Vassula Ryden. He asked me if I knew Mr. Agnello.
Fr. Allwyn Misquitta had sent me an email on November 28 against the same alert and later called me and we spoke on the phone. Strangely, he too asked me if I knew Mr. Agnello.Now, I had also written to Fr. Allwyn Misquitta on "November 24, 2012 5:46 PM" and again on "November 28, 2012 9:27 AM". He did not reply.All this points to a very organised response to my Vassula Ryden alert, organised by Mr. Agnello, the TLIG leader from Mumbai and some others.Now, I have written a letter, my THIRD in fact to Archbishop Vincent, on "December 01, 2012 7:45 PM". He has not replied either.Fr. Stephen Raphael and the three Kolkata Archbishops were sent two emails by me, November 24 and 27, but they too have not responded.I can only draw the conclusion that, despite the interest taken by me to caution some of the Church hierarchy and the information presented to them by me regarding the errors and dangers of Vassula Ryden and TLIG, some Church leaders are either decidedly in favour of Vassula Ryden or intend to maintain silence on the issue. On the other hand, some are so heavily compromised that, while avoiding a dialogue with me, they forward my correspondence to the other camp to enable them to orchestrate a response on their behalf as evidenced by the involvement of Mr. Agnello and Mr. Paul Datta. I do not wish to comment or respond right now in detail on the conversion testimony of Mr Paul Datta. Other eminent Catholic writers including theologians have commented on the positive aspects of the "messages" of Vassula Ryden [the links are below in my letter of December 1 to Archbishop Vincent] while at the same time exposing their very serious errors which Catholics like Mr Datta would be absolutely unable to discern [considering that even Archbishops and Cardinals have failed to do so; these errors can be determined only by an assiduous and meticulous examination of her history and "messages", not by pious or superficial reading].
There are a few things that I would like to share with you concerning my ministry, things that not more than a handful of my closest co-workers in ministry are aware of.My ministry came into existence in Coonoor from May 1982 onwards when I was living as a Hindu [after abjuring Catholicism in 1971] through oral messages in private revelation much similar to what Vassula Ryden experiences, except that a spirit entity [what exactly?] uses her hand for "automatic writing".Including our two sons, there are dozens of people, living today and spread out all over India, who witnessed these events. We recorded some of these "messages" and "prophecies" on two audio tapes and in a notebook which we preserve.But unlike Vassula Ryden, we have not used them either to promote the "messages" themselves, my ministry or commercially.Most of the "prophecies" have been fulfilled. They partly concern my future ministry reaching "tens of thousands", my mission to "go and speak to the Bishops of Delhi", the eventual centering of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Delhi [your former Vicar-General Fr. Victor D'Souza and several others can vouch that it was virtually non-existent and was revived by my wife Angela and me], etc.There were miraculous healings [from terminal cancer, witnesses still alive in Delhi], charismatic phenomena of a very uncommon nature [not encountered by me anywhere in India over the last three decades], conversions, etc. We were confident that God would enable the fulfilment of prophesied things and His instructions in His time instead of our engaging in self-promotion, and that exactly what happened time and time again.At no time, did we ever promote either ourselves or the "messages", knowing fully well the Church's position on private revelation. We too followed the guidance supposedly received from Jesus Christ, His Mother, and the Father, but -- unlike Vassula Ryden -- in submission to the Church.Despite rejection for decades, we emulated the other great mystics and visionaries knowing that the Battle belongs to the Lord [II Chronicles 20:15].As you read that, consider the testimony of Mr. Paul Datta and others on the TLIG site and the modus operandi of Mrs. Ryden and TLIG not just for publicity and acceptance but also to eliminate and crush those who reject or denounce her, and they are many.
I have written and received hundreds of letters from Cardinals and Bishops especially over the past decade. I have also received many responses from Rome against some of my reports. Without soliciting, my work has been approved by theologians from India and abroad, speakers on EWTN, eminent Catholic and Protestant authors and owners of web sites and blogs, top leaders of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in India and abroad, and dozens of priests not just in India, but also in Rome.No teaching authority [Bishop] of the Catholic Church till date has either written me directly or the faithful, warning that any of my writings contained theological or doctrinal error [which all is present in Vassula Ryden's "messages"]. I have never had to resort to expunging information published by me, making corrections or revisions of incorrect statements, even though my work is often of an unwelcome and unpopular nature. Compare that with the warnings of Rome and of many Bishops and theologians and Catholic apologists about Mrs. Ryden.About a dozen priests, some of them have passed away, have discerned, even prophesied my calling and my ministry. A few of them had not met me before and/or had not the least idea of what I was doing.During my "dark nights of the soul" my refuge was the Blessed Sacrament. Once, when wondering if I was really doing God's will in my writing ministry, I received by a form of locution, Isaiah 30:8 which I had never read before. It goes, "Now come, write it in a book that they can keep, make it as a record, that it may be in future days an eternal witness." The date: March 25, 1995.
I received the same message again several years later, this time in Habakkuk 2:2.I have never had to use subtly veiled threats -- as TLIG does -- against lay Catholics or a few priests [who generally are in rebellion against Rome's teachings and "patriarchy"] who wrote to me expressing their disagreement. If you note the opening salvo of Mr Paul Datta's "Dear All" covering letter to his testimony ["Hence, request you not to persecute the Holy Spirit"], it is typical Vassula to state that opposition to her "messages" is opposition to and blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, an unforgivable sin. Critics of Vassula Ryden and TLIG are "blinded by the smoke of the Evil One", a very serious charge to make against fellow Catholics. It is like charismatics accusing the same of those who reject charismatic spirituality [thankfully, they don't]. Mr. Paul Datta actually goes to the extreme of certifying that "Jesus & our Holy Mother speaks to Vassula", something that even Rome has officially denied or not pronounced!Mr. Paul Datta equates the holy Public Revelation of the Gospel with the lowly and unapproved private revelations of a human being with questionable antecedents: "if it’s true that Jesus is the Son of God and He died for us and rose again from the dead, then the Messages of True Life in God is the Truth".Mr Paul Datta rightly concedes that "the evil [one] can mimic God”. Not a few "seers" and "visionaries" have turned out to be delusional, false, even controlled by Mr. Datta's "the evil one" [II Corinthians 11:14]. Search the Internet for "False Apparitions" and the like. Vassula figures prominently.From Mr Datta’s testimony, while not disparaging the genuineness of his conversion, I quote him as saying "Jesus, one day, through the messages gave me the Spirit of Unity, and asked me to defend it to the last day." This "Spirit of Unity" according to eminent Catholic sources cited by me in my reports and articles AND the CDF is "Contrary to Catholic doctrine". That being the case, it would eventually metamorphose into a "Spirit of Divisiveness" which again is pointed out by some of the referred writers.In his testimony, he writes, “All I know is that this Love Hymn is true and if these messages cannot change the heart of a person then nothing can.” Thus, Mr. Paul Datta in the spirit of Vassula Ryden and TLIG precludes all other means of conversion that Christ has endowed His Church with. TLIG is the ultimate vehicle for conversion of heart!I am reasonably confident that none of the recipients, including the learned Bishops, of Mr. Paul Datta’s covering letter cum testimony detected these contradictions and grave errors in his communication.All of the above statements of his underline what I join other Catholic apologists in emphasizing: that the TLIG messages of which Mr. Paul Datta and Mr. Agnello are simply conduits or echoes are anti-Catholic.The links given by me below provide all the required evidence to substantiate my statements. Vassula Ryden's opponents are all under the yoke of "the evil one", to quote Mr. Paul Datta’s excessive repetitions of it. A true and mature convert would simply not make such conclusive denouncements. I do not blame him for all that. If Mr Paul Datta were knowledgeable as well as discerning, he would be a follower of Jesus and not of Mrs. Ryden and her "messages". He would know that there have been many conversions to Christ through eminent Catholics who later left the episcopacy [e.g. Archbishop Milingo, a leading supporter of Vassula Ryden], the priesthood or their ministries and even their Faith, not a few of them embroiled in sexual and financial scandals. I bring to a close this lengthy missive which I pray you will examine as a true pastor would. I recall the cordial lunch and warm discussions concerning my ministry that my wife Angela and I had a couple of years ago with you and Archbishop Vincent and a few other of the senior priests of the Delhi archdiocese in the Archbishop's house and your exhortation to me to not be discouraged but keep writing to the Bishops, including your good self. Accordingly, I take the liberty to write back at length to you and to mark copies to all concerned which I discern would be helpful to all. I said to myself “I wish I was young to join you to carry on and help you to complete the responsibility which God has given you and you have accepted it.” Yes, Jesus is so good to tell us that by ourself alone we cannot do this task. It is He with us who can accomplish this tremendous task. Nothing is impossible to the Almighty God. He has assured you dear Vassula of His help. Of course, Love of God and love for God always goes together with the cross-sufferings, and even death. Example given by Jesus, the Son of God, if the Master has gone through so much pain and sufferings can we his servants be without the Cross? They affirm that she is authentic! And THAT EXACTLY is what "worries" them the most, if you understand what I am trying to convey to you. I fully share their concerns. The matter appears to be far more spiritually serious than it looks. In the not-very-long run, if and when the truth comes to light, it will be a disaster for many.I guess that one has to very "Roman" Catholic today to be able to see through the TLIG subterfuge... and there are apparently not too many Bishops and laity around who can be seen to be that. Concerning Vassula, some years back we had spoken at length on phone about the deception in her writings. If she claims direct revelation and guidance by angels then she should have been perfect in her writings, otherwise it gives people the impression that her writings are more to be believed than the gospels and all that sound Catholic tradition has to offer us and even the magisterium. I myself have a personal experience of her deception when she came to Mumbai, India in 2002 and I was asked to introduce her at her rally at Sacred Heart Church, Santa Cruz, in Mumbai and her team members had told me that Cardinal Ivan Dias had approved it, which was not true. Whereas later I realized that the parish priest had given her permission by oversight and since the programme couldn't be changed they allowed it on the grounds of Sacred Heart Church, Santa Cruz, Mumbai, India. Before introducing her I had made my displeasure known to the team members, who kept assuring me that there was nothing wrong and she has the approval of Cardinal Ivan Dias. Subsequently, one of the active members, Agnello Fernandes of the TLIG and brother in law of the former (late) spiritual director Fr. Ronnie Braganza even approached me to be their spiritual director and I flatly refused the offer on grounds that her status in the church was not clear to me.I am shocked at her blatant lies and deception in which she goes about deceiving and the encouragement she has been receiving from the many Indian Bishops, including the Archbishop of Bombay Cardinal Oswald Gracias, who seem to have deviated from the path chosen by Cardinal Ivan Dias. Feel free to use this letter of mine, for we cannot allow the flocks to be led astray by the shepherds seeking their own end.

Pacwa et al. You may not find pro-Vassula theological articles because it is perhaps taken for granted that the messages are theologically sound. Those having problems with the messages will surely write articles on the theological problems of the messages and that is understandable. Some years back even after my mother told me about Vassula, I was cautious. I therefore did some research on the messages, the letters from the CDF and from Levada and Vassula's responses to them. I found the exchange healthy and resulting in a positive conclusion. I in fact found the response of Levada hasty and unacceptable. I then read some reactionary material against Vassula which questioned her theology. I must say I found them immature and unjustified.As a professor of theology, I can assure you that there are nuances in theology that need to be taken into consideration before giving one's judgement. There are theologians who are already biased. Their "blinkered" theology does more harm than good. Finally the Magisterium can make a mistake in condemning a person or his/her work. I feel the letters are written in haste. No wonder the Pope later said that the position is modified and Levada's letter seems clumsy and imprudent. Among the clergy in Rome, Levada does not have a good reputation as a theologian. It proves the Ecclesial axiom that the Church (Magisterium) is human and divine. And corrected herself later. Two outstanding cases were the censures against St Pio and St. Faustina. I believe that I was the one who introduced the Vassula phenomenon to many people in Mangalore in 1997. I still have those video tapes. Thereafter, I attended her programmes at Divine Retreat Centre, Kochi and Goa. I bought and read all her books. I had the same fervour towards the 'visionaries' of Garabandal and Medjugorje, and for Julia Kim of Naju, Korea.In addition, I have material on a number of other such 'seers' in my library. I have always promoted anything that enhances Catholic faith. I was doing the same on the net for Vassula when I was contacted by people
from three different countries of Europe, all of whom were earlier closely associated with VR's ministry, and they each had later distanced themselves from her.
When I defended VR, all three of them offered me many reasons as to why I should reconsider my stand. The reasons included CDF letters, etc. But it was not exactly or only that which made me reverse my position on VR. I read all the information carefully, and found that many of the arguments appear to be well justified. One that troubles me is that Vassula's vision of ecumenism in her end-time scenario is apparently different from that of the Church. Three streams, the Orthodox, the Pentecostal and the Roman Catholic will fuse and become one [It was that which had actually excited me earlier]. While that fulfils John 17:11, 21 to a large extent, it later struck me that the ideal unity would be the Orthodox and Pentecostals coming home to Rome, the apostolic Church.I put down some of my thoughts in writing, and replied, and one of the three persons asked if it could be used as a testimony against Vassula on their website. I gave my consent.I am no theologian. I could be very wrong in the end. So, too Levada and the others. For instance, there are those who condemn Vassula only on the basis of her automatic writing. These people are always anti-charismatic. They consider it as an occult or satanic manifestation. I cannot accept that simply because I have personally witnessed the phenomenon in our family during prayer [one member only had that 'gift'] and I have preserved those sheets of paper. And also, because we cannot put restrictions on what God can do [or say] through anyone. I do accept that VR's writings have done a world of good for many Catholics, but the arguments of those who are against her 'apostolate' are also quite strong. After weighing everything, I decided that there was little, but enough, reason for me to believe that I better stop promoting VR. After that, I passed on to a few friends, who I knew were touched by VR, the information that I received and continued to receive. The Roman Church (because of the Roman Empire) became politically powerful and at times highhandedly treated the other churches, etc. This created lot of misgivings. The Roman Church with its Latin rite was not able to understand the other churches with their Byzantine, Armenian, etc. orthodox rites, like Peter not understanding Paul and the Gentiles. After about 10 centuries, the East-West Schism – 1054, took place because of the egoism and ignorance of the Roman delegate. He played his dirty politics as we have examples of dirty politics played today with regard to Medjugorje, Padre Pio, Naju, even with practically all the founders of the Orders, and Congregations. With such politics the Church was divided. Today Ecumenical theology (of the Catholic Church), recognises the Church of Rome as the hub of unity while the other churches (orthodox especially), need not lose their identity in fusing themselves into the Roman Church. The Pentecostals after some basic changes with regard to theological matters can enjoy full communion with the Catholic Church but still retain their identity (this is very difficult with regard to Protestants etc but not impossible).Now from whatever I read in Vassula's messages I find this aspect of ecumenical unity strongly portrayed. I have not read ALL of the messages; that is why I wanted the letters of Vatican to quote some particular statements of incongruence with the Catholic Church's idea of Ecumenical unity. So by writing in such a way they are not doing their job.[…] the Church is human and even sinful. No doubt Pope John Paul II said sorry for many of the sins committed by the Roman Catholic Church. It is mostly the case that after a long time they recognise someone and make him a saint, or reverse their stand on an issue. I also am aware of the historic Orthodox schism and that in their case, the adjustments would be minimal. Three years down the line, I retract those words. My intensive studies and research and networking with Catholic apologists worldwide have led me to include the Vassula Ryden problem on my web site. While Fr. Bryan has argued the case for Vassula Ryden well, basically on just the one issue of ecumenical unity, it still remains that (a) there are other aspects of that "unity" that seriously concern other theologians and eminent priests, and (b) there are a host of other troubling issues [behavioral, moral, spiritual, etc.] concerning the Vassula Ryden phenomenon that cannot be explained away simplistically. She has even been charged by prominent theologians with promoting a form of "New Age" spirituality. Yesterday, it must have been the time you posted this article, I was seriously thinking about the Vassula problem. In the beginning of the CCR the Lord gave me a prophecy (I'm in CR since January 1975). He said: I am sending you this spiritual renewal of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, so that the elect may not be lost.Lucifer tries with subterfuge methods to undermine the Roman Church, using our Tradition, Liturgy, and ordained people, so that the elect will be lost: It feels and looks so Catholic! they say.Since many of our brothers and sisters hate to get involved with the real work of the Lord, "EVANGELISATION" guided by our specific gifts, which to follow through is often more uncomfortable then comfortable - Satan has easy game.Now in 1976 I brought this CCR to my Viennese friend, who was married to a Scottish Lord, Johnny. He took to it like a fish to water, not so his wife! He brought one day (I think from France, I can't fully recall the story) Vassula to our prayer group. That was in Westminster, which group I had helped to grow. Till today it meets with about 800 people in the Centre of London. My recollection is very vivid: I sat in the first row, being one of the leaders. Vassula was in front speaking into the mike. She neither smiled or communicated to anyone by eye contact or otherwise. When I looked at her she avoided my gaze constantly and I concluded that she is not of God. This is a very simple gift I have got. Sai Baba could not even carry on speaking, broke out in a temper and said he does not give darshan that day. Rajneesh had an even stronger temper and forced me to wear a red cape when coming into the "audience room" where about 800-1000 people followed his rather intelligent, but dishonest quoting of all major European philosophers. When I started praying in my heart (this was 1981/2), like at Sai Baba's place, he stopped and furiously left the stage. The same also happened in 1983 in a spiritualist church, where the master made operation without incisions, in the Philippines, near Baguio. He could not proceed and the blood lumps, he apparently had taken out from the stomach of a cancer patient, disappeared there and then (hypnosis I concluded). Going back to Vassula, I was quite new to my gifts, but had already learned that the strong presence of the Holy Spirit, by praying in tongues, even in my heart, made the evil manifest itself. It was, so to say, forced to appear. Now that was enough from Vassula. I have her automatic writing in my house, among the other false proclamations.Last time Fr Rufus was in Potta [Divine Retreat Centre, Muringoor, Kerala, run by the Vincentian congregation], he sat next to Vassula. I do not think he was convinced about her, but he never, ever criticized anyone. When I asked him, he kept silent, which to me meant "not ok". That of course is my perception. […] I am curious now about your analysis of Vassula. When I look at her on the photo with Fr Rufus in Potta, I feel she is possessed by a spirit entity who pretends to be Jesus. [I have received a letter from Maria Laura Pio of Switzerland -- a long-time Catholic critic of Mrs. Ryden whose web site she forced to shut down after launching a civil suit against her -- that it is the same Paul Datta who has accused her in "The Examiner" of being a Freemason.
In one upcoming report, I have documented very clearly the the rejoicing of Mrs. Ryden on her TLIG web site over the fact that Catholics, including clergy and religious, attended her speaking engagements in Goa on two different visits despite the ban on her by the then Archbishop of Goa, Most Rev. I had forgotten about that mail I had sent you about the Australian TLIG testimony, and I am not surprised that you found him now endorsing a New Age group. Good research!I went through the list of the 28 articles. I ignored the existence of several of them. I see you included the article of Joe Nickell. I consider Nickell's article one of the most interesting, since he is a recognized expert on debunking claims from all type of mediums. Just for you to be informed, Nickell is a member of the Skeptical community. The Skeptical movement in the USA has had its critical eye on Vassula for several years, mainly through Nickell's articles. A certain main stream inside the Skeptical movement is quite anti-Christian and most members are atheists. I personally agree with Nickell's conclusions that the main explanation of the Vassula phenomenon is human and is linked to Vassula's personality type. I just wanted you to know about Nickell's link to the Skeptical movement in case someone points it out as a problem. In the same way, the articles of Ingerlise Provstgaard are written from a Protestant point of view, since she is a Danish Lutheran. So, she has problems with Vassula encouraging the prayer of the Rosary. When I published her article several years ago on my website, a person from India wrote to me complaining about the fact that she questioned Marian devotion. However, Ingerlise is an expert in her field, and brings a different perspective to the analysis of the phenomenon, which is very useful. She points out the psychological traits of Vassula's "Jesus", for instance.
I consider all these different points of view as ways of reflecting on the whole Vassula phenomenon and should be all taken into consideration without feeling threatened by the fact that an atheist or a Lutheran wrote them. As long as we have our own faith clear to us… Another topic I wanted to discuss with you, well rather, warn you about, is the following: When I had the website, I received a lot of mail from all over the world, some of which from people who presented themselves as former followers of Vassula. And most were speaking the truth. However, in 10 years, I discovered that three of them were lying, and at least one of them was in fact a current member of TLIG… So, please be careful with the people that contact you regarding Vassula.I also wanted to thank you for the very kind words you wrote in your preceding mail, regarding the work I did on the Vassula case. As I have often told you, much of it would not have been possible without my contact with you. At least you are able to discern so. Many people cannot. Some of them consult me when they are guided wrongly by priests and nuns. Some people are called to pray, to intercede. Many Catholic charismatic priests from 1982 till now have discerned that my ministry is to expose error in love. It is a ministry against the Kingdom of Darkness, and a prophetic calling. Also, Scripture and Church Canon Law require us to expose and fight error if it is seen in our priests and Bishops. It is NOT judging others.
