The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is a

specialized agency of the United Nations, whose mandate is:

i. to promote and accelerate sustainable industrial development in developing

countries and economies in transition;

ii. to work towards improving living conditions in the world’s poorest countries by

drawing on its combined global resources and expertise.

In recent years, UNIDO has assumed an enhanced role in the global development

agenda by focusing its activities on three thematic priorities:

1) POVERTY REDUCTION THROUGH PRODUCTIVE ACTIVITIES

2) TRADE CAPACITY BUILDING

3) ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT

The UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development

• The UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development was established to respond effectively to the industrial development challenges being faced by UNIDO Member States.

• The overall aim of the Institute is to strengthen UNIDO's academic partnership, networking efforts, capacity-building and training activities.

• It provides training on key issues pertaining to sustainable industrial development.

• It serves as a platform for knowledge creation, knowledge sharing and as a catalyst for innovative solutions and ideas for addressing specific policy challenges for achieving more inclusive and sustainable patterns of globalization.

A preliminary 5-week distance learning component ensures that all participants share a common knowledge concerning issues of trade capacity building. Active engagement in online discussions on four modules and the relevance and quality of case studies prepared by participants in relation to their national specificities are part of the selection process for the face-to-face component

The 8-days residential part of the course offers a dynamic mix of lecture based and participatory teaching methods. P a r t i c i p a n t s w i l l t a k e p a r t i n a number of training sessions and develop and present thematic studies. Seminars, group works and discussions w i l l f o s t e r i n t e n s e d e b a t e s .
