- MARK 1:17 On behalf of Catholic Charities, Tom Woolman and Joe Reinboldt delivered 758 pounds of food to the Culpeper Food Closet on January 13.
Jesus' call to "Follow me" is a call to all Christians! The call is in the here and now, in our present circumstances, not when we think we are "ready" or have everything in order. Good stewardship of our God-given gifts means that things aren't always going to go according to our schedule and that God has a much better plan in store for each of us.

2018 BISHOP'S LENTEN APPEAL BEGINS! This month many of us will receive a mailing from Bishop Burbidge regarding the 2018 Bishop's lenten Appeal (BlA). The theme for the 2018 BlA is "Living in Faith-Giving in Gratitude." After reflecting upon the many bless ings that God has given you, please prayerfully consider making a pledge to this important appeal that funds many programs and ministries that serve the people in our diocese. Together, through the BlA, let us renew our personal commitment to the lord's work in our diocese.

Writer/Director Robin Smith and retired CBS News Correspondent Bill Plante will present award willing documentary Come Walk In My Shoes, follows the Honorable John Lewis on an emotional pilgrimage to the churches, parks and bridges where young people played a pivotal role in the struggle for equality and voting rights. SOLITARY CONFINEMENT -- MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD Social Action Linking Together (SALT) urgently requests that parishioners consider helping prisoners in Solitary Confinement in Virginia prisons. The Catholic Bishops of the United States issued a statement entitled "Responsibility, Rehabilitation, and Restoration: A Catholic Perspective on Crime and Criminal justice." The bishops state: "We oppose the increasing use of isolation units, especially in the absence of due process, and the monitoring and professional assessment of the effects of such confinement on the mental health of inmates." Also, Pope Francis denounced Solitary Confinement, associating the practice with torture because of the "genuine surplus of pain that is added to the suffering of imprisonment." Legislation cur rently before the Virginia House of Delegates, HOUSE Bill NO. 795 & Senate Bill SJ 65, written in the spirit of the state ments by the Bishops & Pope Francis. This legislation calls for reducing the use of solitary confinement and eliminating for the mentally ill, practices considered torture by numerous religious leaders and health professionals.
