ALNICO SERIES

This classic guitar speaker actuallystarted life as a radio speaker that wasmodified specifically for use in electricguitar amplifiers. In its originalincarnation as the G12 T530 itappeared in several colour variations,but it was the Blue version, fitted asstandard into Vox AC30 amps, thatsecured its place in guitar tone history.

The Blue found favour with notableguitarists like Brian May, due to itsglorious dampened attack, warm lows,mellow upper-mids and brilliant bell-like top-end. When coupled with asuitable amplifier it evokes richdefinition and develops beautifulmusical compression when pushed.According to tone enthusiastsworldwide, the Blue is the benchmarkfor guitar speaker perfection.

By the late 1950s, the electric guitar had propelled itself from sideman status to centre-stage. With

ever more flamboyant guitarists taking the lead, our friends at Vox and Marshall identified the

need for a dedicated guitar speaker to handle the increasingly loud and raucous performances. In

response, Celestion designed the G12 T530 – the now famous ‘Blue’. The rigid construction and

Alnico magnets made them ideal for a new generation of electric guitarists, experimenting

increasingly with volume and overdrive. Soon the Blue became the sound of the ’60s British

Invasion, and over 40 years on we can listen back to hundreds of classic guitar moments voiced by

the Celestion Blue, from The Beatles’ I Feel Fine to Bryan Adams’ Summer of 69.

In 2006 the Blue was joined by the Gold, an Alnico speaker that retains the essential character of

a played in Blue but with greater power handling, making it ideal for use in modern amplifier

designs. The Gold has become a firm favourite with some of today’s hottest players, and in 2008

will be available from Celestion in a 10" format, as the G10 Gold, so we can look forward to

another 40 years of that classic Celestion Alnico sound.

CELESTION BLUE

Following the great reviews we receivedfor the Gold 12", we realised there wasalso a need for a speaker that conveyedthe Alnico mellowness of the originalBlue, with the speed and response of a10" driver.

The G10 Gold is the ultimate 10"speaker, blending unmistakable Alnicoclass with a rich low-end, creamy mid-range and vintage chiming top-end.Springy, warm, revealing and highlyexpressive, it can be used singly or inpairs to add a classy sheen to any amp,or in a 4x10 configuration for highervolume depth, warmth and shimmer,with less of the boom associated with4x12 cabinets.

Building on the platform of the Blue, theGold is a higher-powered, Alnico-magnetspeaker that recreates the unmistakablesonic signature of a ‘well played-in’original. Over time, the high frequenciesof a Blue soften and become less chalkyas the cone becomes more flexible – amuch sought after characteristic that theGold exhibits straight out of the box. Alsopresent in the Gold sound from the outsetis an added warmth and complexity inthe midrange which, coupled with theclassic Alnico qualities of a laid-backattack, rounded low end and brilliant bell-like highs, deliver huge rhythm voicingsand saturated vocal lead tones.

The Gold is a wonderfully expressiveand revealing loudspeaker, affordingguitarists an unprecedented degree ofdynamic control. It has already becomea favourite for many working playersworldwide whether picking andbending with Brad Paisley, or rockinghard with Danny Spitz of Anthrax.

HERITAGE SERIES

Originally created as a higher-powerhandling variant of the G12MGreenback, the G12-65 is widelyregarded as one of the best speakersever produced for use in a 4x12 cabinet.

With its fast attack and tightlycontrolled low-end, the G12-65 becamea firm favourite in the ’80s with hardrock players. Hand-assembled at our facility in England, the Celestion Heritage Series speakers are faithful

re-creations of the genre-defining drivers that stacked up behind the most influential guitar

players of the 60s, 70s and 80s.

As the precise design, raw material specifications and manufacturing techniques evolve to

accommodate new technologies and processes over the years, so the sound of a speaker shifts in

subtle increments which, taken collectively, significantly modify the tone. The Celestion Heritage

process identifies the most desirable version of a driver from a given point in time, and sets about

the painstaking process of regressing the speaker development back to its origins to recapture the

particular sonic qualities of the era.

Using original blueprints and materials specifications, no stone is left unturned in pursuit of the

original sound. Adhesives and edge treatments that are no longer commercially available are

reformulated. Magnet assemblies and coil formers that have been changed or re-designed over

time, are once again produced exactly as they were. And authentic labelling and solder-only tags

are used to bring these exquisite old speakers to life once again.

The original G12M of the 1960s wasCelestion’s first guitar speaker to use aceramic magnet and paved the way forhigh power guitar amplifiers. TheG12M uses a medium weight magnet toproduce a sound that is smooth andwarm but bright enough to hold itsown against any rock backline.

Known simply these days as the‘Greenback’, the G12M’s fabled ‘browntone’ is characterised by a warm,controlled low-end, a rich,vocal mid-range and a delicate, detailedtop-end. Loaded into a 4x12 and drivenhard, these speakers exude warm,crunchy chords and sweet searingsingle-notes.

It’s hard to escape the sound of theG12H, just listen to any Hendrixrecording and chances are you’ll behearing a whole raft of them poweringthe guitar out of the mix.

With a heavier magnet than the G12M,this faithful recreation captures theunmistakable mojo of late 60s rockguitar tones. Used singly it exhibits apleasing, strong low-end, but it’s in a4x12 configuration that it generatesthe great chugging ‘thump’ that theguitar heroes of the day were renownedfor. With a densely complex and butterymid-range and a finely detailed top-end,the G12H is excellent for cranking outhuge, dark power chords, with smoothand rich bridge pickup tones and fluteyneck pickup tones.

The 10" that thinks it's a 12". Thisspeaker was developed to recapture thelegendary sound of Celestion's 1970s10s - a 10" speaker with a surprisinglymeaty tone.

Low in output but with the weightylow-end balance of a 12", the G10Greenback features a complex, creamymid-range and smooth, vintage top-end.

In small combos this speaker adds realclass, and when combined in a 4x10gives rise to a raunchy, full-bodied tone,rich in low-end thump.

Developed in the late ’70s, the ClassicLead uses a fibreglass voice coil formerto deliver an 80W power rating and aunique dynamic sound.

A firm favourite with lead guitarists,the Classic Lead features a tightlycontrolled low-end, with strong highbass / low mid punch, aggressive midrange attack and a powerful yetcontrolled top-end.

For power chords it has the tone tomake its presence felt but the subtlehigh-frequency roll-off makes it idealfor solos, able to project single notes onloud stages without becoming shrill.

Back in 1986 a new breed of hard rockplayer was on the rise. To meet thedemands of the players and theirincreasingly ‘hot-rodded’ amplifiers, weset out to develop a modern speaker,capable of handling much more powerand overdrive. To achieve this, wecoupled our ‘H’ magnet (the closest inperformance to Alnico) with a new coneand voice coil employing contemporarymaterials.

Our most revealing speaker, the Vintage30 features enormously detailed andcomplex overtones, a warm low-end, afamously rich vocal mid-range and abeautifully detailed top-end. Used singlyto reveal the complexities in hand-wiredboutique amps, or in quartets for awonderfully intricate vintage 3Dcrunch, the Vintage 30 sound has beencaptured on thousands of recordingsfrom a diverse range of notable playersincluding Slash, Steve Stevens and PeterFrampton.

This version exhibits all the classicG12M characteristics but is voiced withadditional broad mid-range attack andrestrained top-end to give a forward,punchy attitude to chords and a searinglead tone without fizz.

Originally re-released a little over adecade ago, the G12H remains hugelypopular with players looking torecreate the classic sounds of 60s and70s rock.

With a strong, aggressive low-end andpowerful low-mids, the G12H penetratesany mix with an attacking uppermid-range and an ice-cool top-end. Usedsingly or in quartets it provides seriousattitude to soft amp tones, easilycutting through loud stage levels forchord work, and imparting a hard edgeto single notes.

A favourite in the ‘boutique’ amplifiermarket, the G12H is often used on itsown or paired with a Celestion Blue orGold for a full-bodied sound that addsceramic attitude to the chime of anAlnico speaker.

Celestion’s very own monster of rock,the G12K-100, makes full use of theheaviest G12 magnet to combine hugepower handling with superb clarityacross a wide frequency response.

A massive bottom-end, rock-hard mid-range and restrained top-end make thisthe perfect speaker to add thump andgrind to modern high-gain tones.

Loaded in 4x12s it delivers its famoussledgehammer lows, as favoured bySlayer’s Kerry King, but it also oftenfinds use in small boutique combos,bringing a powerful mix of low-endwarmth and mid-range attack.
