    As men, we can get

    caught up in the lure

    of a dream or goal.

When it doesn’t work out, we

    get discouraged and forget to

look for God’s purpose. I expe-

    rienced this about two years

into my career. I was working

with a headhunter to find a

new job, and I interviewed at

    the Sealed Air Corporation.

    Learning from my previ-

ous mistakes, I was both pro-

    fessional and polished. I left

    feeling confident that the job

was mine. When I got home,

    the headhunter called and

    said, “I’m sorry Joe. They

    chose someone with a little

    more experience, but they

really liked you and want you

to come back to interview for

    a different position.”

    Believe it or not, that

    scenario repeated itself three

    times. All told, I interviewed

four times at the Sealed Air

    Corporation. I never got the

    job. After the fourth inter-

    view, I was devastated. I

    bawled my eyes out.

    The next day, a seeming-

    ly random wrong-number

phone call put me in touch

    with another headhunter. She

    took advantage of her mistake

to drum up business by asking

if I was looking for a job. You

    betcha!

    Through my new head-

    hunter, I interviewed at

The year was 1994 and I

    heard about a respon-

    sible girl that lived

around the corner from us that

    was willing to babysit. My

daughter was 6, my son was 3

and Terry and I desired the

opportunity to go out for an

    occasional movie and dinner

and were hoping that this 15

year old young lady would like

our kids and our kids would

fall in love with her. We got

    lucky and Jennifer was “adopt-

    ed” into our family. We

    watched as Jennifer grew up

    along with our children

    Chelsie and Zachary. She

    cooked and did homework,

bathed and tucked them intobed. Jennifer soon was driving

    them to karate school and

    their after school sports activi-

ties. I was dreading the day

    that Jennifer would outgrow

    the babysitting job, high

school and go away to college.

It isn’t easy finding a consci-

    entious, responsible young

person to stay with your kids.

    When the kids no longer

    needed a “babysitter”, I hired

Jennifer to work in my office

and found out she was the best

    employee a business owner

    could ever have! She was

always on time, did over and

above the call of duty and

    severely impressed me with

    her attention to detail; always

doing her best and trying to

please. There was no job Jennifer wouldn’t tackle or

    accept no matter how diffi-

    cult, educationally or even

physically. She’d roll-up hersleeves and dive in 100%, but,

    then after high school, she

    informed us she was leaving.

     Jennife r wanted to

    become a PA, physician’s

    assistant and was moving to

    Boston to continue her educa-

tion. We can’t say we were

    unprepared for the news, but,

you can never really be pre-

pared to have a loved one

    move away. Jennifer’s

boyfriend was from NJ, so we

    were hoping she would visit

    frequently and I would offer

her work in the office during

    her vacations and visits; alas,

    she convinced Jarrod to follow

her and find work in MA; he

did and our hopes were dashed

    she’d ever come home.

    A few years ago, Jennifer

blessed me with the honor of

    driving her and her mom

Linda, to her wedding in ourRolls Royce. I truly felt father-

ly that day as Jennifer’s father

had passed away less than a

    year before his daughter’s big

    day. My children’s babysitter

    was all grown-up and married

now in addition to becoming a

    PA. I tried unsuccessfully to

offer her, her old job back or

    any job involving financial

    planning, which, she repeat-

    edly rejected preferring a hos-

    pital or doctor’s office setting

to a financial planning firm. If

she put forth the same energy,

    professionalism and attitude as

a PA that she did for Terry and

I, any doctor would be truly

blessed to have her on their

    team. Currently Jennifer is

looking for a position in NJ

    while actively employed in

MA, not an easy task for sure.(Any doctors reading can call

me for her contact info if you

    act fast.)

You see, Sunday was Jennifer’s first baby’s christen-

ing at St. Mary’s Church, her

    church, in Pompton Lakes and

the babysitter that we met 20

years ago is now a brand new

    mommy. Things have come

    full-circle, once Jennifer, her

    husband Jarrod and their new-

born move back to NJ, Terry

has offered to babysit so they

can go out for dinner and a

    movie every now and then.

    Knowing my wife and her

    maternal instincts, it will be

far more often both now and

    then.

    I was wondering what the

    going rate for babysitters are

now. I babysat a few times

when I was 15 and the rate

then was .75 cents an hour. I

don’t remember what I paid Jennifer 18 and 19 years ago,

    but, whatever it is Jennifer

will be able to add the equiva-

    lent sum into her daughter’s

    college fund since Terry

    wouldn’t take a dime, of

    course.

     Now, my parental, father-

    ly and financial planner

    instincts will be fully engaged

    in speaking with Jennifer

    about the financial future of

    her daughter, Samantha Lynn,

    herself and husband Jarrod.

     Jennifer’s grandmother has

been an APG client for years,

now it is important that the

    whole family from great grand-

    mother to great granddaughter

    and everyone in between pre-

    pare for their financial futures!

Whether for college, retire-ment, an emergency, or a lega-

    cy-based estate plan; I encour-

age all of you to schedule an

    appointment with your finan-

cial advisor to design, refine or

    implement your financial

plan. There is so much to plan

for and so very little time.

Who was it that said “a penny

saved is a penny earned?” And

    if past performance of infla-

    tion rates and stock market

    performance are any indica-

tion of the future, one should

    memorize and embrace the

    7P’s: Proper Prior Planning

    Prevents Poor Performance –

    Period!® Don’t delay, call

    today!

Jennifer - Terry and I and

our 4 children are so very

proud of you, your accom-plishments and life choices.

    You are a credit to your family;

    your dedication, persistence

    and hard work have paid-off

    handsomely. You have proven

    that luck is spelled W.O.R.K!

    Remember to always put me

down as a reference on any

    application for employment

you complete. And let me end

with a “thank you” for accept-

ing our request to babysit our

    children 20 years ago.

    Congratulations on becoming

    a Mom, you’re going to be a

    great one!

    Summer camp is a beloved

    tradition in many fami-

    lies. Many parents of

    young children fondly recall

    spending their summers at sum-

    mer camp, where they made

    lifelong friends and learned the

    finer points of roasting marsh-

    mallows and competing in

    three-legged sack races.

    Parents looking for the

    right summer camp for their

kids will soon discover there are

    various types of summer camps,

    each offering youngsters some-

    thing different. The following

are some of the summer camp

    options parents can expect to

encounter as they search for the

    right camp for their kids.

    DAY CAMP

    Day camps are not

    overnight camps, which means

    kids will return home each

night rather than sleep over at

    camp. Day camps typically offer

    many of the activities people

    have come to associate with

    camps, including crafts, sports

    and even day-trips to experi-

    ence local culture or attrac-

tions. Many day camps are co-

    ed, and counselors typically live

    within the community.

     FAITH-BASED CAMP

    Faith-based camps offer

many of the same activities as

    more traditional summer

camps, but do so while simulta-

    neously offering campers the

    opportunity to celebrate and

    further explore their religious

    beliefs. Some faith-based

    camps may focus heavily on

    religion, incorporating faith

    into daily camp activities,

while others may be more sub-

    tle with regard to integrating

    religious beliefs and lessons

    into camp activities.

    SPORTS CAMPS

    Some summer camps

    focus on a particular sport,

    catering to young athletes who

    want to further develop their

    athletic talents. Sports camps

    may feature guest lectures and

    lessons from notable local ath-

    letes and coaches, while some

    camps may provide instruction

    from current and/or former

    professional athletes. Some

    sports camps are overnight,

    while others are day camps.

     FAMILY CAMPS

    Family camps are opportu-

nities for the whole family to

    enjoy the summer camp experi-

    ence. Family camps typically

    tailor their activities around

    tasks families can complete

    together, with counselors pro-

    viding assistance when it’s

    needed. Family camps may be

    faith-based or secular, and fam-

    ilies typically stay overnight,

    sleeping in facilities on the

    campsites or in lodging away

    from home.

    SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPS

    Parents of children with

    special needs can still send

their kids to summer camp, as

    there are many camps that

    cater to such youngsters.

    Special needs camps may cater

    to campers who are blind,

    deaf, learning disabled, or

    mentally or physically dis-

    abled. Staff at special needs

    camps typically undergoes

    extensive training, which

helps to calm some of the fears

    parents may have about leav-

    ing their special needs chil-

dren at camp. Facilities at spe-

    cial needs camps are often

    built to accommodate the spe-

    cific needs of campers.

    Summer camp options abound

A flat roof is more prone to leakage than other roofs, so home-

owners may need to routinely inspect their flat roofs for any areas

of water penetration. Another way to prevent leaks is to install

gutter systems correctly. Gutters should not be hung completely

level, but angled toward the roof’s downspouts and drains. This

angle will better facilitate water flow.

    The strong bonds many

    people share with

    their pets can make

the death of those pets, be it

    sudden or expected, difficult

    to handle. It’s not uncommon

to be traumatized when a pet

dies, and such grief may be

influenced by the pet’s age at

the time of its death, the cir-

    cumstances surrounding that

    death and the nature of

    the relationship between the

    owner and pet.

    Different pet owners

deal with the death of a pet

in different ways, but the fol-

lowing are some ways to cope

with the loss of a companion

    animal.

    Recognize that everyone

    feels differently. Grief is

    expressed in many different

    ways. What one person experi-

ences may not be the norm for

another. You may go through a

    variety of emotions, from

    anger at the circumstances and

being left without your pet, to

guilt if you believe there may

have been something moreyou could have done to pro-

    long the animal’s life. Mourn

in your own way, and afford

    others the same opportunity.

    Reach out to others.

Grief often can turn a person

    inward, and your feelings may

    be bottled up. Talking about

    your emotions, whether it’s

with a trusted friend or even a

    therapist, may help. Online

    message boards that cover

grief and pet loss may provide

    the support you need. Leaning

on others who have been in

    your shoes may help you

    recover more quickly.

    Create mementos or a

    legacy for the pet. Creating

    mementos may help children

who are having their own dif-

    ficulty dealing with pet loss.

Work with your child to create

a photo album or plant a tree

    to honor your pet.

    Dealing with a pet that

    must be euthanized can be

especially difficult. Pet ownerscan choose to be in the room

    during the procedure, and that

    decision should not be made

lightly. If you think you can

handle it and you want to be

    there to comfort your pet,

then you might be more com-

    fortable being in the room.

But being present when a pet

    is euthanized can be emotion-

al, so give this decision serious

    consideration.

    Once a pet has died,

    many owners debate whether

or not to bring a new pet into

    their homes. Another animal

around the house can fill the

void created when your previ-ous pet passed away, and some

people adopt or buy a new pet

before an old or sick pet passes

away to make the transition as

smooth as possible. A new pet

    should only be brought into

    the home when you’re ready

    to build a new relationship.

Find out why tap water, bottled water, reverse osmo-

sis and distilled water are not the answer and could

be actually causing more health problems.

TAP WATER is a healthier option than soft drinks and other

beverages, but according to the Environmental WorkingGroup, there have been 315 pollutants found in America’s

tap water since 2004, and over half of these pollutants arecompletely unregulated and can legally exist in any amount.

At the current levels of contamination, the public is starting

to question the quality of tap water and wonders if it is safeenough to drink.

BOTTLED WATER is not necessarily healthier than tap

water and yet it costs much more! Bottled water costs more

per gallon than gasoline! Although, through marketing tac-

tics, it is associated with healthy water, bottled water isnot guaranteed to be any healthier than tap water. In fact,

there are many carcinogenic chemicals that go into themaking of plastic water bottles that can leach into the

water. Why do you think they constantly tell us not to storebottled water in our cars? Because the plastic heats up,

releasing chemicals into the water. Bottled water has al-ready been heated many times in the 4 to 6 months it

    takes to reach market.

A four-year study by the Natural Resources DefenseCouncil shows that 1/3 of the bottled water tested con-

tains levels of contamination which exceed allowable lim-its. Bottled water can also be slightly acidic, which may

affect your body’s pH balance. Finally, the environmental

impact caused by the production and disposal of plastic

bottles is harmful to our ecosystem.

REVERSE OSMOSIS AND DISTILLED WATERReverse Osmosis and Distilling are filtering processes,

which may be effective in areas that do not receive munic-ipally treated water and are commonly used in bottled water

facilities. Both reverse osmosis and distilling removeshealthy, naturally occurring minerals in our water. These

minerals not only provide good taste, they also serve a vitalfunction in the healthy balance of our bodies. When stripped

of these minerals, this water becomes unnatural and an ag-gressive absorber. This can be quite unhealthy. Also, 2 - 3

gallons of water are wasted for every gallon of purified water produced; again, a very negative impact on our environment

    and ecosystem.

There is a better way to support your body, so it can do what it is designed to do, HEAL ITSELF.REMOVE TOXINS by drinking the right water.

The SolutionWe have researched the best water to drink for detoxifying your body of theseharmful pollutants, as well as remove pesticides (toxins) from your fruits andvegetables.

This technology comes from Japan and has been used in Japanesehomes for decades. It is now available in the USA. This water brilliantlyaddresses the Three Stresses that are causing us to feel and lookolder, slowing us down, and causing more aches and pains: OxidativeStress , Aci dic Stress and Dehydration Stress.

The most powerful feature of this water is its anti-oxidant property, be-cause it is rich in Molecular Hydrogen. This dissolved hydrogen gas hasbeen demonstrated to reduce oxidative stress, helping to reduce free radical damage. With its negative oxidation-reductionpotential (ORP) and great taste, youcan count on this ionized anti-oxi-dant water to aid in the neutraliza-tion of free radicals. Given theproper tools, our bodies canheal themselves.

Experts tell us our body’s pHneeds to be balanced. Ionized

alkaline water helps to balancethe pH of the body and flush outacidic waste. The natural benefits of the water are encouraged and en-hanced by alkalinity. Alkalinity is the statein which water is most harmonious with itswellness benefits.

Water is the universal solvent that our bodies rely on for flushing toxinsand waste products from the body. By returning the water to the way itused to be, the way nature intended water to be, our bodies can usethe water more efficiently. Preliminary studies have revealed a phenom-enon called “micro clustering” which refers to the exceptionally small“structured” molecule clusters of ionized water. With its great taste and

smaller cluster size, this water can address all of your body’s hydrationneeds.

This technology doesn’t stop at great tasting drinking and cooking waters. Infact, it creates many different waters for use in all aspects of daily life.

Beautiful Skin and Hair  Acidic water—referred to in Japan as “Beauty

Water”— helps give our skin and hair thesupport it needs to be vibrant and radi-

    ant.

Pesticide Removal from ProducePesticides are oil-based; so washingyour fruits and vegetables in tapwater does not remove these poten-tially harmful chemicals that aresprayed on our food. Using strong, al-

kaline water (11.5 pH) has beendemonstrated to remove this chemicalresidue on produce, which gives us

peace of mind that we do not have to ingestthese toxins.

Toxic-free CleaningMany people today have chemical sensitivities. To help create a toxic-freesanctuary in our homes, there are three waters from this advanced Japan-ese technology to do just that: clean and sanitize your home without theuse of toxic, chemical cleaners.

Environmentally GreenThe water from this technology is Chemical-free, Green and Eco-Friendly.

Don’t Forget Your PetsYour precious furry friends are part of the family and they suffer the same way

we do. Be sure to give them the right water for healthy bodies, fur and coats. There is no

placebo effect in animals. Do the dog andcat test; put down a bowl of our water

and a bowl of whatever water youhave been giving them and see whichwater they choose. Fascinating!

    Venous Reflux is often

    the underlying cause

    of varicose veins and

    frequently forces men

    and women to dra-

    matically change their lifestyles, espe-

cially when they are active and can no

longer tolerate being on their feet. The

valves in the veins are damaged and theveins near the skin surface are

stretched and distorted from the in-

creased pressure caused by blood flow-

ing in the wrong direction. Although

the condition is rarely life threatening,

it is often painful and unattractive. If

your condition qualifies, we utilize an

office based treatment that can have

you back on your feet in no time!

      Seek treatment sooner than later.

Because vein disease is progressive, this

can lead to symptoms like swelling,

cramping, leg heaviness, itching and fa-

tigue. Left untreated, vein disease can

lead to skin discoloration and even ul-

    ceration.

    Signs of Vein Problems

The symptoms are similar for vari-

cose and spider veins, but are typically

more severe for varicose veins. Spiderveins may cause minor burning or itch-

ing at the site. Varicose vein symptoms

include leg aches or cramps, a feeling of

leg heaviness, burning, throbbing or tin-

gling. Skin ulcers, especially in the ankle

area, are not uncommon when vari-

    cose veins are particularly severe.

      Dr. Ghassemi uses state-of-the-art

laser and radio frequency therapy to

treat problem veins in as little as an

    hour. Procedures are minimally invasive

or non-invasive and patients walk out

with a healthier outlook. Let laser ther-

apy work for you. Visit our website for

    more information.

At the new ACP Vein Treatment

Center in Wayne, our staff is dedicated

entirely to the diagnosis and treatment

of vein disorders. We treat venous dis-

    eases with painless, minimally invasive

    vascular therapies.

    Few foods are as popular

    as pizza. Whether you’re

    a vegetarian or someone

    who prefers pizza topped with

    pepperoni, chances are you

can find some form of this

    beloved dish that will tickle

    your foodie fancy.

    Those who want to

    experiment with making their

own pizzas can do so with the

    following recipe for “Wheat-

    Free Pizza With Roasted

    Vegetables” from Maxine

    Clark’s “Pizza, Calzone &

    Focaccia” (Ryland, Peters &

    Small). The dough is designed

to be a departure from tradi-

    tional pizza dough, providing a

    crisp exterior crust that covers

    a chewy, sponge-like interior.

    Wheat-Free Pizza with

    Roasted Vegetables

    Makes 1 9-inch pizza

    ½ eggplant, cubed

1 small red bell pepper, seeded

    and cut into strips

1 small zucchini, sliced2 garlic cloves, sliced

1/3 cup olive oil, plus extra to

    drizzle

    3 tablespoons each milk and

    water, mixed together and

    warmed

    ¾ teaspoon freshly squeezed

    lemon juice

    1 egg

    ½ teaspoon salt

    1 ¾ cups gluten-free white

    flour

    1 teaspoon quick-rising yeast

    2 ½ ounces mozzarella,

    drained and cubed (optional)

    Sea salt and freshly ground

    black pepper

Preheat the oven to 400 F.

    Toss the eggplant, red

    bell pepper, zucchini, and gar-

lic in 4 tablespoons of theolive oil and roast in a roasting

pan in the oven for 15 to 20

    minutes, or until they are

    beginning to soften.

    While the vegetables are

    roasting, make the batter.

    Whisk the warm (not hot)

    milk and water, lemon juice,

    remaining olive oil, egg, and

salt together. Beat in the flour

and yeast and mix until well

    combined. Pour into the pre-

pared pizza pan, cover, and let

rise in a warm place for about

    20 minutes, or until puffy.

    Bake the pizza crust in

the oven for 10 minutes to set

    the dough, then quickly

    remove from the oven and

    scatter with the roasted veg-

etables and mozzarella (if using). Season well, drizzle

with olive oil, and return to

the oven for a further 10 min-

    utes until the vegetables are

    sizzling and the pizza has

    slightly shrunk from the

    edges. Cut into wedges and

    serve hot.

Homemade pizza with a tasty twist

In its annual Cost vs. Value

Report that compares thecost for 35 popular remodel-

    ing projects with the value

    those projects retain at resale,

    Remodeling magazine found

    that the overall average cost-

    value ratio has improved for

the first time in six years.

    Cost-recouped percentages

    increased for all 35 projects

examined for the 2013 survey, a

    remarkable turnaround from

just a year earlier, when only

three of the 35 projects saw an

    increase in cost-recouped per-

    centage.

    Replacement projects

    proved especially beneficial for

    homeowners, who likely also

    benefitted from a real estate

    market that finally started to

    stabilize after an extended peri-

    od of economic uncertainty

that heavily influenced bothbuyers and sellers.

    While an economy on the

    rebound no doubt benefitted

    homeowners looking to recoup

    as much of their home

    improvement investment at

    resale as possible, other factors

    likely contributed as well. For

    example, homeowners sur-

veyed for the 2013 report who

    added a backup power genera-

tor recouped more of theirinvestment than in previous

    years. That's likely because

    heavily publicized storms, such

    as Superstorm Sandy in late

    2012, have forced homeowners

    and prospective homeowners

to place a greater emphasis on

    being prepared for such storms.

    Among the upscale proj-

    ects surveyed, none recouped

more of a homeowner's invest-ment than replacing existing

    siding with fiber-cement siding.

    Homeowners who financed

    such a project recouped 79.3

    percent of the project's cost,

placing it just ahead of a garage

    door replacement, which

    recouped an average of 75.2

    percent of its cost.

    After years of many home

    improvement projects recoup-

ing little of their initial costs atresale, the tide finally seems to

    be turning for homeowners.
