The GT50 also incorporates some of the research industry’s largest, most important research suppliers. Think it’s okay to overlook them? Well, it is part of IBM, which also owns Cognos and one of the most ballyhooed new analytic tools, the Watson cognitive computing platform. Thus, IBM makes our list. All revenues in GT50 are presented in United States dollars (USD). Revenues announced in Euros, British pounds or Yen by businesses have been calculated using the average 2015 conversion rate for that local currency with U.S. dollars. To be fair, GT50 notes the percentage change in both original currencies AND in U.S. dollars. GT50 sales revenues, in most cases, are for calendar year 2015. GLOBAL TOP 50RESEARCH ORGANIZATIONS

Welcome to RFL Communications’ second annual ranking of the “Global Top 50 Research Organizations,” or the RFL “GT50.”

The “GT50” takes a unique approach in accounting for the business results generated by the global research industry. To do that, we need to go far beyond research agencies (new and traditional), which is how another MR industry annual ranking, the AMA Gold Report, has always been done.

For instance, we dig a little deeper into the composition of companies. So, Omnicom, with numerous and varied research services (CSpace and others) are in GT50.

Obviously, clients are making decisions using data, knowledge and insights collected from things like social media, Big Data as well as analytics. So, those resources are also part of GT50. Our list also includes new, dynamic, unorthodox research businesses (e.g., InMoment) that have been replacing traditional services. Acxiom and Harte-Hanks have direct marketing and targeting offerings which are growing in research use.

The GT50 also incorporates some of the research industry’s largest, most important research suppliers. Think it’s okay to overlook them? If you were to do that in your business, research projects would not get done – so why should we ignore them here? And remember SPSS, the most universally-accepted survey software? Well, it is part of IBM, which also owns Cognos and one of the most ballyhooed new analytic tools, the Watson cognitive computing platform. Thus, IBM makes our list.

All revenues in GT50 are presented in United States dollars (USD). Revenues announced in Euros, British pounds or Yen by businesses have been calculated using the average 2015 conversion rate for that local currency with U.S. dollars. To be fair, GT50 notes the percentage change in both original currencies AND in U.S. dollars.

GT50 sales revenues, in most cases, are for calendar year 2015. Some companies have “odd” fiscal years (e.g., April - March). We had some success in reallocating those revenue results to conform with January - December. Where not possible, these exceptions are footnoted.

This year’s “GT50” also shows each Top 50 company’s numerical position in last year’s report. If they moved up on the list this year, this number is in Green; those that dropped are noted in Red.

We have nine companies that did not appear on our inaugural 2014 list. These include big names like SurveyMonkey, Experian, Gallup, Toluna, ISG and Medallia. (Some companies from last year fell off our list, having been acquired by other research entities.)

GLOBAL TOP 50 RESEARCH ORGANIZATIONS

About RFL CommunicationsRFL Communications, Inc. is a business press company, incorporated in September 1994 by Editor and Publisher Bob Lederer. The company is best recognized as a market research news, knowledge, insights and commentary provider through four newsletters and the only daily video research news report.

The research industry had no formal recognition of the impact of new technologies and methodologies until Research Business Report. Difference-making research conference speeches were

never summarized before Research Conference Report. Our competitors saluted Research Department Report and its client profiles. And only Pharma Market Research Report covers market research in the pharmaceutical, health care, biotech and medical device industries. The RFL Global Top 50 Research Organizations is another new thought leadership statement.

This year, look for the RFL Market Research Toolbox Report, designed to educate researchers about optimum situations for each of 50-plus tools & techniques.
