22 Octobre 2013 Réunion LSD – Grenoble/Paris @ LPSC LSD Prototype (Layered Surface Detector) LSD prototype status and lessons: •The ribs were placed under the top layer -> no more punching of the layers -> gain of space •Volume and weight -> Dia max 320 mm, ~ 30 kg •Hole opening on top of the tank -> Dia 360 mm, hand milling machine •Simple hinge system -> Lower the overall cost -> add some rivets, ribs with flate end, anti-rotation cotter pin •Opening tests -> Shrouds system Ok, max strength = 190 daN! To be defined: •Size and watertightness of the hole on the tank liner •Strength needed to open the LSD in water •Mechanism used to open the LSD into the tank -> combination btw pulling on the hinges and pushing on the central tube

LSD Prototype(Layered Surface Detector)

LSD prototype status and lessons:

•The ribs were placed under the top layer -> no more punching of the layers-> gain of space

•Volume and weight -> Dia max 320 mm, ~ 30 kg•Hole opening on top of the tank -> Dia 360 mm, hand milling machine•Simple hinge system -> Lower the overall cost

-> add some rivets, ribs with flate end, anti-rotation cotter pin•Opening tests -> Shrouds system Ok, max strength = 190 daN!

To be defined:

•Size and watertightness of the hole on the tank liner•Strength needed to open the LSD in water•Mechanism used to open the LSD into the tank

-> combination btw pulling on the hinges and pushing on the central tube

Liner opening, liner watertightness (to be defined)

Actual proposition:•Introduction of a large foldaway flange•Gluing of the flange on the liner•Cutting out the liner (Flange = pattern)•2 half flanges are placed at the inner part of the liner•Flanges screwing = the liner is in sandwich btw flanges
