PAINT ST. HENRY’S CHURCH IN TWIN BUTTE: Friday, August 23 to Sunday, August 25, 2019. St. Henry’s is a historic church building in
Twin Butte, AB. Dedicated in 1907, it served early settlers and their descendants as a Catholic church for 94 years. It is no longer an ac-
tive Catholic parish, though the cemetery continues in use by the local community and the church is a community icon in the area. Cur-
rently the exterior is in need of a paint job and Bishop McGrattan has asked if the men of the Diocese could take on this project. Please
forward this message to all the men's ministries in the Diocese! It's a great opportunity to have the young adults join you in this service.

Today’s readings show us that it is not enough to be Christ’s disciples in name only. To be a real disciple, we must live for Christ every day and in every aspect of life. This kind of life takes strength and discipline.
Intentionally and consistently offering the Lord the best of our Time, Talent, and Treasure through a stewardship way of life is a form of spiritual discipline. These spiritual disci-plines teach us to become ever more aware of God’s con-stant provision for us and they keep us on the narrow path towards the Kingdom of Heaven. The more we embrace this way of life, the more we can be “trained” by the Lord in the ways of true discipleship. Though difficult, these disciplines become a source of spiritual strength. Our Lord Himself speaks of the difficult path to the Kingdom of Heaven in today’s Gospel passage from Luke. He is asked, “Lord, will only a few be saved?” Jesus responds, “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough.” Showing up for Mass on Sunday while living as if Christ is an after-thought the rest of the week does not make us disciples. What’s more, this approach to our faith is an unjust and unloving response to our good God who has given us all that we have and are. Jesus does not want us to merely go through the motions of faith. He wants much more from us and for us. He wants to know us deeply and for us to get to know Him so that we become His holy disciples. This is not a burden; it is a privi-lege. But it does take discipline, the discipline of a steward-ship way of life.
BAPTISM PREPARATION Please register for our next class which will be held on Saturday, August 31 at 10:00 am
in the Rectory Hall. If you are first-time parents seek-ing baptism for your child, you are required to attend one of these sessions prior to the baptism. Registra-tion forms are available on the information tables in the Cathedral and on our website. Registration is re-quired.

Parent Information Session: Saturday, September 14, 2019 (Mandatory for
Parents only) 9:30 to 10:30 am St. Mary’s Cathedral, Rectory Hall
Sacrament Preparation classes to be held on Saturdays throughout the year.
Parents and their child or children are expected to attend the classes listed
below in preparation for the celebration of the sacraments. If for some rea-
son you must miss a session, please contact the parish as we are very willing
to assist you in supporting your child’s learning.

Your HELP is NEEDED! The Cathedral is adding a fall clean up scheduled for the inte-rior of the Cathedral on Septem-ber 7. Anyone who is interested and able to come help for a few
hours, please contact the office. We will begin our cleaning at 10:00 am and will finish by 1:00 pm. Coffee and goodies will be on hand to help fuel us as we clean.
Attention Parishioners and Visitors During Mass, please be sure to keep your personal belongings with you at all times. Also do not leave any of your personal belongings in your car when you come to Mass in order to prevent theft and vandalism.

Jesus reminds us that God will not judge us by the same earthly standards. When God asks you, “what have you done with the gifts I have given you?” How will you respond?
