The outdoor patio overlooks the mature foliage of Griffith Park at the Eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains. Fern Dell Place is a private street for only residents and guests. The stucco and stone masonry to-gether with a variation of the round tower seen here are traditional ele-ments of French Normandy archi-tecture.

In Normandy and the Loire Valley of France, farm silos were often attached to the main living quarters instead of a separate barn. After World War I, Americans romanticized the traditional French farmhouse, creating an architectural style known as French Normandy. From the French chateaus, borrowed elements of steep roof pitches, high ridgelines, and dormers suggest the no-tion of a grand scaled estate. The French Normandy style is most notably distinguished by a variation of a round tower topped by a cone-shaped roof. The tower is usually placed near the centre, serving as the entrance to the home; however, the tower can also be offset to either side of the structure as a secondary design feature within the architectural theme.

Designed in 1927 by George R. Perry and sited on a private street overlooking Griffith Park, this three level French Normandy in-spired residence showcases true European architecture. Amenities include twenty-three foot pitched wood-beam ceilings, three bedrooms with additional guest unit or office with private entrance, three and a half bathrooms, chef’s kitchen with stainless steel appliances, Sub Zero refrigerator and butler’s pantry, hard-wood flooring throughout and newly refin-ished hardwood flooring in the second and third bedrooms, oversized French doors, alarm system, fireplace, new stone and ma-sonry work, updated plumbing and electrical, newer sewer line, new heating and air condi-tioning and a street to street lot with a sepa-rate legal address on East Live Oak Drive.
Dual ten foot French doors frame the East facing living room wall and provide access to one of many outdoor patios. The cream-colored paneled walls provide visual contrast with the warmth of the wood flooring and wood ceil-ings.

Griffith Park has been referred to as the Central Park of Los Angeles, but it is much larger and with a much more untamed, rugged
character.
The butler’s pantry is seen here together with stainless steel appliances and a wood paneled Sub Zero refrigera-tor. Access to the lower level quest bedroom or office is gained from the passageway between the kitchen and living room.

The terraced side yard off the kitchen allows for an out-door barbeque area as well as a small garden. A wall of bamboo provides privacy and a natural screening from the neighbors.

The wood paneled pitched ceiling and dark stained beams crown the main living area and upper level hallway. The upper Northern and Southern walls provide an abundance of space for art work.

"Man's sense of values ought to be revised. If all mankind could look
through that telescope, it would change the world!"
-Griffith J. Griffith
Griffith Observatory's unique architecture and setting, compelling programmatic of-ferings, and cinematic exposure have made it one of the most famous and visited landmarks in southern California. Tens of millions have come to walk the inside of the building, view the live planetarium shows, or simply gaze out toward the coast and the heavens. This cultural and scientific icon owes its existence to the dream of one man, Griffith Jenkins Griffith, and to the dedicated scientists and public servants who worked to fulfill his vision of making astronomy and observation accessible to all. The Griffith Observatory, originally opened in 1935 and re-opened in 2005 after a four-year renovation. Griffith’s will was that admission would always be free to the public.
