Gauge:19 sts and 36 rows = 4” in patt st on size 6 needles, or sizeneeded to obtain gauge.

Brioche Rib Color Patt I (odd number of sts):Rows 1, 5 and 9 (RS): With MC, knit.Rows 2 , 6 and 10 (WS): With MC, K1, *p1, k1 in row below;rep from * to last 2 sts, p1, k1.Rows 3 and 7: With CC, knit.Rows 4 and 8: With CC, as Row 2.Row 11: As Row 1.Row 12: With MC, purl.

Work untilpiece measures 12 (13, 14, 15)” from beg, ending with a Row 10 of patt.Shape armhole:BO 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 55 (59, 61, 65 sts)Continue in patt for 6 (6.5, 7, 7.75)”. Work across first 15 (17, 18, 19) sts and place them on holder.BO center 25 (25, 25, 27 ) sts, work across last 15 (17, 18, 19)

 Work in St st for 10 rows, ending with a RS row. Knit nextrow for fold line. Work patt as for back for 7 (8, 9, 9)”. Foldin half with right sides tog and work 3 needle bind off.Tie: With crochet hook and MC doubled, work a 42” chain.Fasten off.Finishing:Seam shoulders with a 3 needle bind off. Sew hood aroundneck edge, not including the facing rows. Fold facing toinside and hem in place leaving opening for cord. Threadcord through facing. Set in sleeves, weaving 5 bound off armhole sts to top 5 rows of each sleeve. Sew side and sleeveseams.Button band: With RS of front facing and MC, pick up and knit 76 (82,

88, 94) along left front edge. Turn and knit 1 row. Turn and bind off, marking placement of 4 buttons evenly spacedalong top half of coat.Buttonhole band: With RS of front facing and MC, pick up and knit 76 (82,88, 94) sts along right front edge. Turn and knit 1 row. Turnand bind off, making buttonholes opposite markers on button band as follows:Bind off to first buttonhole placement, *take st on RHneedle and return it to LH needle, knit this st; rep from * 4more times, bind off that st. (buttonhole loop formed)Continue to bind off normally to next buttonhole placementand rep from * again. When all sts are bound off, fasten off  yarn.Sew on buttons and block if desired.

Sew on pockets.Pom-pom (optional):Using both colors, make a 2” pom-pom and attach to pointof hood.
