• The primary means of rescue is normally a helicopter, with the surface ship, or rescue boat secondary

• Boat will approach man overboard from down wind of the man

• SAR swimmer will deploy off of the starboard side of the boat

• SAR swimmer does a visual check of the man for injuries, if the litter is needed, he will signal the boat

• SAR swimmer will transport the man overboard back to the boat

• Visibility is below 1 mile

• Personnel assigned to rescue boat and shipboard recovery teams will stand by on station until recovery is successful by helicopter

Recovering of survivors directly by a ship is employed when:

• The sea state precludes the lowering of a small boat
