CHRISTMAS EVE MUSIC December 24, 1996

ANTHEM: "Masters In This Hall"

"Masters in this hall, hear ye news today brought from over sea, and ever I you pray: noel, noel sing we clear! Holpen are all folks on earth, born is God's Son so dear: noel, noel! Noel sing we loud! God today hath poor folk raised and cast adown the proud.

Going o'er the hill, through the milkwhite snow, heard I ewes bleat while the wind did blow: shepherds many and one sat among the sheep, no man spake more word than they had been asleep.

Quoth I, 'Fellows mine, why this guise sit ye? Making but dull cheer, shepherds though ye be?' Shepherds should of right leap and dance and sing, thus to see ye sit, is a right strange thing. QUoth these fellows then, 'To Bethlehem town we go, to see amighty Lord lie in manger low'. 'How name ye this Lord, shepherds?' Then said I 'very God'. They said, 'come from heaven high': this is Christ, the Lord, Masters be ye glad! Christmas is come in and no folks should be sad.'

Noel, noel Sing we clear. Holpen are all folk on earth, born is God's Son so dear. Noel, noel! God today hath poor folk raised and cast adown the proud".

"Mary Had a Baby"

"Mary had a baby, my Lord. What did she name Him, my Lord, My Lord? She named Him King Jesus, my Lord. Where was He born, where, my Lord, my Lord? Born in a manger, my Lord. Mary had a baby, oh my Lord."

"Alleluia! Christ Is Born"

"Alleluia! Christ is born: gladness raise our voices, Alleluia. Sing the shepherds bowed before Him. glory. Sing with joy the holy story.

"0 Holy Night"

the world rejoices. we sing with Sing the mother watching over Him. Alleluia. Sing this day of wond'rous Alleluia."

The words for this traditional Christmas Eve Carol are familiar. This beautiful carol will be sung in the candlelight by the Choir.
