A Message from the Principal Dear Families,

An Anzac Prayer Gracious and loving God, the cross of Christ is the sign of your desire for justice and peace for all.

Open our minds to your vision as we remember all who suffered through Australia and New Zealand’s involvement in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

Grant all servicepersons who sacrificed health and life for the good of all, the gift of your deep peace. May we who inherit the freedom for which they fought become instruments of your peace in our homes, workplaces and world.

We ask this prayer through Chris out Lord. Amen

We welcome you all this week to begin our new term together. Our students and staff have arrived feeling refreshed and energised in their work. Our Swimming Program began yesterday with our students from Transition to Year 6 participating. This is an important program for all our children. Our swim program not only focuses on stroke development, but important survival and rescue skills. A reminder that this program runs from Tuesday to Friday of each week.

A warm welcome to Ellie and Ted Murphy and their parents who join our school community this week. We hope that you enjoy your time here at Holy Spirit. We congratulate Mrs Denise Simon, our Deputy Principal on becoming a grandmother during the holidays to Avah Audrey Simon. Mother and baby are at home and doing well. We wish the Simon family well during this exciting time.

Our Silent Disco at the end of last term was a huge success and a lot of fun for all involved. Thanks to everyone for making possible.

Congratulations to Mrs Sharon Floyd and her team from Vacation Care and Community of Learners who provided a fun-filled week for our students. Our children went on excursions, participated in cooking and water play just to name a few. With Anzac Day approaching we have a special ceremony scheduled for this Friday 23rd at 8:15am in the multipurpose room. Families are welcome and encouraged to come along. Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand where we commemorate all who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacemaking operations, as well as the contribution and suffering of all those who have served. We welcome James Irlan to our school community who is currently completing his teacher placement here. James will be working with our students from Year 1/2, Room 2 under the guidance and support of Shelley Murtagh and Lyndell Williams.

Over the last month we have been working closely with our local member, Nicole Manison MLA and Eva Lawler MLA (Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics) regarding the design of bus shelter, no. 23 along Angelo Street and the continued antisocial behaviour that occurs. Students and staff of our school use this shelter daily. For the safety and wellbeing of our school and community we have asked that the bus shelter be redesigned so as to discourage this antisocial behaviour.

Operoo goes live this week. Operoo (formerly CareMonkey) makes it very easy for you to respond to excursions, camps and the never ending consent forms that come home regularly. Install the Operoo app on your mobile phone, tablet or PC. At the end of last term you would have received an email inviting you to update your details as well as create a profile for your child. Thanks to so many of you who have already completed this. If yet to do so please take the time this week to ensure you do not miss out on any important information. The ultimate aim of Operoo is to reduce the burden on you to provide repetitive information time and time again when your child goes on an excursion for example. You and your child’s information is only visible by the relevant staff here at Holy Spirit. No data or details are stored oversees. For further details around this please click on link: https://www.operoo.com/terms-policies/security/

A few reminders for us all around the safety and wellbeing of everyone:

Before School Care is available from 7:00am each day.

Duty of care for our children begins at 7:45am in our assembly area. If your child needs to be at school prior to this please en-sure you book them into BSC so that you know they have supervised care

Our driveway is a ‘drop and go’. At no time is anyone permitted to park in these bays.

At afternoon dismissal, when using driveway, and there are no available bays please continue to drive forward and park in our carpark or alternatively drive around the block.

The driveway in the afternoon is always busy directly after school. By 2:40pm the congestion and business of this area sub-sides.

Casuarina Pool carpark is available to parents during afternoon dismissal also.

In the afternoon our staff walk our students across Angelo Street

Throughout the day, please do not park on yellow lines at any time. When parking on yellow lines you are not only in breach of Australian Road Law, but you also inhibit the visibility of other motorists on our roads. This also puts all pedestrians at risk who may be crossing the road

Your support and understanding around this is appreciated. Dates to lock into your calendar for our term:

PASTORAL CARE AND WELLBEING

Student, staff and family wellbeing is a focus and priority here at Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School. To keep you all informed, we are providing weekly updates regarding wellbeing, including support policy and procedures that we have in place here at Holy Spirit. In November 2018, the Australian Government, in partnership with Beyond Blue, launched Be You, an online platform that provides educators with tools and strategies to support the mental health and wellbeing in our school. More information about this will be included in our newsletter each week. Our Vision and Mission Statement is central to our school when implementing policy and procedures. A copy of this statement is provided below. We encourage you to take the time each week to discuss this as a family. Please do not hesitate in speaking with classroom teachers or members of our Pastoral Care and Wellbeing Team for clarification.

Kind Regards,

Kelsey, Dell, Mary, Amelia & Paula Pastoral Care & Wellbeing Team Holy Spirit Vision and Mission Statement Holy Spirit Catholic community is inspired by the gift of the Catholic story and tradition, encouraging all members to live, to love, to grow in Christ. Holy Spirit Catholic School is committed to developing the fundamental value of each person. Through sharing and living the Catholic story and tradition, we foster learning that enables students, families, school and community to engage in a collaborative partnership for a life-long journey of education.

Our students learn in an atmosphere which integrates Gospel values with their life and learning. They are valued as unique individuals working to achieve their potential - spiritually, academically and socially.

Our teachers are committed to providing a quality Catholic education based on Gospel values in partnership with the parish and parents/carers. Their priority is to support students achieving their potential.

Positive Behaviour Update Class Expectations

Each class will have clear guidelines of expected behaviour and consequences that have been created and implemented in collaboration with students and teachers.

All members of the class have the right to feel safe.

Mutual respect should be upheld with the right to teach and learn.

Working together and building relationships: School Acknowledgement Plan The following are examples of how teachers and other staff members acknowledge and build positive relationships with all students. We believe this is a primary and critical component in establishing au-thentic and respectful relationships both in and out of the classroom learning environment.
