EnglishlanguageproficiencyisarequirementforstudyatUCT.AllinternationalstudentsforwhomEnglishisnotafirst/homelanguageorhavenotpassedEnglishatNSCGrade12,AS-level,IGCSE,NSSClevelorequivalentsecondaryschool-leavingqualificationfromanEnglishmedium-of-instructioninstitutionmustprovideproofofEnglishlanguageproficiency.AspartofyourapplicationtostudyatUCT,youmustsubmitoneofthefollowing:

STUDY VISAS

IntermsoftheImmigrationActNo13of2002,ifyouareresidentoutsideofSouthAfricaandarenotaSouthAfricancitizenordonothavepermanentresidence,youarerequiredtoobtainastudyvisatoentertheRepublicforthepurposeofattendingtheUniversity.ItisimportantthatyourvisaisendorsedspecificallyforstudyatUCT1.

IfyouholdrefugeeorasylumseekerstatusyouareexemptfromneedingastudyvisatoattendtheUniversityhowever,youarerequiredtoproduceavalidrefugeeorasylumseekerpermit.

TheofferofastudyplacebytheUniversitydoesnotbindtheDepartmentofHomeAffairsinanywaytoallowyoutostudyinSouthAfrica,nordoesitremovetheneedforyoutoobtainpermissiontoenterthecountry.Ifyouareofferedastudyplace,pleaseapplyimmediatelyforastudyvisa.YourapplicationmustbemadetothenearestSouthAfricanEmbassy,ConsulateorHighCommissioninyourhomecountry.Thisprocedurecouldtakebetween8to12weekstobeprocessed,soapplywithoutdelay.TheapplicationformBI-1738,dulycompleted,mustbeaccompaniedbythefollowing:

(i) theparticularsofthepersonintheRepublicwhowillactasthatlearner’sguardianandaconfirmatoryletterfrom thatintendedguardian;and (ii) proofofconsentfortheintendedstayfrombothparentsorfromthecustodianparent,alongwithproofofsole custodyinthelattercase(f) apoliceclearancecertificate3(g) affidavitconfirmingconditionsofexistingvisahavebeenupheldforthoserenewingapreviousstudyvisafor SouthAfrica(h)medicalandradiologicalreports(i) documentsrelatingtomaritalstatusifapplicable(j) ayellowfevervaccinationcertificateifthatpersontravelledorintendstravellingfromorthroughayellowfever endemicarea(k) inthecaseofaforeignstateacceptingresponsibilityfortheapplicantintermsofabilateralagreement,awritten undertakinginrespectofthedepartureoftheapplicant(l) proofofmedicalcoverfromaSouthAfricanmedicalaidscheme,registeredintermsoftheMedicalSchemesAct,1998 (ActNo.131of1998).Thedurationofyourmedicalaidcovermustalignwiththedurationofyourstudyofferand mustberenewedannuallyforeachyearofstudyandbevalidforthefullyear,endingon31December(forfulldegree programmes).(m)proofofsufficientfinancialmeans(n) paymentofadeposit:Providedthatsuchdepositshallberefundedtothedepositorafterthefinaldepartureofthe applicantorafterapermitcontemplatedinsection25oftheActhasbeenissuedtotheapplicant:Providedfurther thatthepaymentofthedepositmaybeeffectedbymeansofabankguaranteedchequeorcreditcardatplaceswhere suchfacilityexists.(o) inthecaseofstudentsfromAfrica,thepaymentofthedepositshallnotberequired:ProvidedthattheGovernment oftherelevantAfricancountrysubmitsawrittenundertakingtopayallcostsrelatingtothedeportationofthestudent, shouldthisbecomenecessary.(p) otherrequirementsasmaybeprescribedbytheConsulate/Embassy
