We acknowledge the living culture of the Wurundjeri people, the traditional custodians

of the land we stand on, and pay tribute to the unique role they play in the life of this region.

St James Parish is committed to the safety, well-being and dignity

of all children and vulnerable adults.

Dear Parishioners of St James,

Over three years ago the decision was announced to hold a Plenary Council and the People of God began preparing for this historic moment by listening to God and by listening to one another’s stories of faith.

We as a Parish had several sessions to provide input for this Plenary Council. After this time of listening and journeying the Catholic Church of Australia will gather for the first assembly of the Plenary Council from 3-10th October 2021.

The Plenary Council website will provide daily livestreams of parts of the opening Plenary sessions and Masses (including the Opening Mass on Sun 03 Oct). https://www.plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au/assembly-1/

Plenary Council Masses and daily morning prayer booklets for full participation are available here: https://www.plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au/prayer/

May God grant the grace to all those gathering to be open to the Spirit leading them through these upcoming days of prayer, listening and discernment.

PRAYER OF PETITION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT A prayer used before every session of the Second Vatican Council.

This is to be prayed at the beginning of a Plenary Council.

We stand before you, Holy Spirit, conscious of our sinfulness, but aware that we gather in your name.

Come to us, remain with us, and enlighten our hearts.

Give us light and strength to know your will, to make it our own and to live it in our lives.

Guide us by your wisdom, support us by your power, for you are God, sharing the glory of Father and Son.

You desire justice for All

Enable us to uphold the rights of others; do not allow us to be misled by ignorance or corrupted by fear or favour. Unite us to yourself in the bond of

love and keep us faithful to all that is true.

As we gather in your name may we temper justice with love, so that all our decisions may be pleasing to you, and earn the reward promised to good

and faithful servants, Amen .

SUPPORTING ST JAMES PARISH

We are truly encouraged spiritually and financially during these challenging times. Although we are still struggling to meet with our loan repayments and the many financial commitments that a Parish has, we are truly inspired by the online donations and thanksgiving that is coming in.

We are definitely aware of the financial strain that people are experiencing currently but we are truly inspired, humbled and encouraged by the generosity of many Parishioners who continuously contribute.

We particular make reference here for those who are contributing through donations to the Church Extension Fund and the Thanksgiving Program. It was heartening and once again humbling to hear one Parishioner write to us this week saying “We are so grateful to God for touching our hearts to give back to Him and acknowledging that all our resources belong to Him.”

Special thanks to the Parishioners who together donated $850 this week towards the Church Extensions.

CHURCH EXTENSION DONATIONS

As lockdown continues to loom, it is important to continue to reconnect with our communities. It has been some time since we met with our

parishioners, online or otherwise, so a ZOOM meeting has been arranged to Meet The Priests this Sunday 03 Oct at 3pm.

Fr Jude will give a brief update on our Parish after which the priests will be happy to say G’day and answer any questions. We hope to see many parishioners come to this meeting which we will host fortnightly.
