DAY 4: HÚSAVÍK, ICELAND Deep seafaring traditions pervade the picturesque town of Húsavík, one of the oldest settlements in Iceland. This tiny town boasts popular whale-watching tours— humpback, minke, and massive blue whales favor the area’s plankton-rich waters. DAY 5: CRUISING THE NORWEGIAN SEA DAY 6: KLAKSVÍK, FAROE ISLANDS, DENMARK Set in a sheltered harbor amidst an unusual sculpted mountain landscape, Klaksvík is the second-largest city in the Faroe Islands. Take in views of Pyramid Mountain, or visit Christian's Church, featuring a nineteenth-century wooden boat hanging from the rafters. DAY 7: LERWICK, SHETLAND ISLANDS, SCOTLAND The Shetland Islands offer a striking snapshot of rugged moors, flower-filled meadows, and petite Shetland ponies. Lerwick was founded by Dutch fishermen in the seventeenth century and today is a cosmopolitan seaport. DAY 8: BERGEN, NORWAY Return to the past in Norway’s medieval capital, Bergen. Glimpse its cultural history at the Hanseatic Museum or tour the thirteenth-century Rosenkrantz Tower, with panoramic views of the seaport. DAY 9: STAVANGER, NORWAY Stroll the tidy cobblestone lanes of Old Stavanger—many of the preserved white wooden cottages ornamented with floral trellises have been converted into art galleries and boutiques. Hike the nature trails along the banks of the nearby Lysefjorden, or view the countryside from Pulpit Rock. DAY 10: KRISTIANSAND, NORWAY Step into the vibrant energy of Kristiansand, featuring upscale shopping and restaurants, a lovely beach, and a charming old quarter lined with wooden houses. DAY 11: OSLO, NORWAY Framed by lakes, moors, and dense forests at the head of a sixty-mile-long fjord is the sophisticated capital of Norway.
