DAY 3: SUNDAY 04 JULYFor many, this is a highlight of a trip to Namibia and because Erindi is so

special, so we will spend another day here. You can either observe the game

visiting the waterhole from the comfort of your room, or find a good spot on

the deck and sit back to view the hippo, crocodile, elephant, giraffe and lion

that visit the waterhole – an unbelievable sight!

We will enjoy a delicious lunch followed by high tea later that afternoon. A

sunset game drive is also on the cards.

This evening, with the fires burning, we will open a bottle of ‘red’ and toast

this very special and memorable place.

DAY 4 : MONDAY 05 JULYAfter another scrumptious breakfast overlooking the water hole, we bid our

farewell as we depart for the next incredible highlight - Etosha National Park.

Etosha’s salt pans create an indelible picture and leave lifelong memories for

many visitors. With luck, we will also see plenty of game.

TOUR DATES:Friday 02 July to Monday 12 July 2021

Our first highlight is a game drive with an expert guide on this 70,000-

hectare reserve that is home to the ‘Big 5’.

While we wait to check-in to our rooms at 14h00, we will enjoy lunch on

the deck that overlooks a waterhole where elephants and other wildlife

come to drink and play.

A late afternoon game drive in search of lion and cheetah culminates in a

G&T somewhere in the bush.

Dinner this evening is a mouth-watering buffet served in the Erindi

restaurant that overlooks the waterhole – a cosy fire completes the picture!

Page 5: 2021 | NAMIBIA · Namibia is a vast country and we will have travelled many long, dusty and gravel roads. Should you elect to avoid the bus journey back and prefer to return by air,

This evening is dedicated to simply enjoying the pleasure of one another’s

company as we share stories around the braai.

DAY 5: TUESDAY, 06 JULYAfter a delicious breakfast, we depart Etosha and head south towards

Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. Along the way, we will stop for a leg stretch

and coffee break.

We head further south into the heart of the desert, Walvis Bay. On arrival,

we are greeted with sundowners amongst the dunes of the oldest desert in

the world. As we watch the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean, we will raise a

toast to newfound friendships.

“When in Rome….” - Walvis Bay’s seafront is renowned for its fresh seafood

restaurants and tonight we will feast on local seafood in one of the well-

known eateries.

TOUR DATES:Friday 02 July to Monday 12 July 2021

Our accommodation for the next two nights is Gondwana’s Etosha Safari

camp, located a few kilometres from the park entrance. Time permitting,

we hope to arrive in time for an afternoon game drive – if we do not make it

in time, we will do it tomorrow morning. This tour includes one (1) free

game drive in Etosha, however, should you wish to enter and visit the park

again, Gondwana lodge will gladly assist you with the necessary

reservations.

Tonight, we visit Gondwana’s unique “township”- with campfire lit and the

gentle sounds of a guitar in the background, we will savour the best and

tastiest dishes for dinner.

Usually booked up months in advance, we have the opportunity to enjoy the

extremely popular Etosha Safari Lodge. Bring your swimsuit to take

advantage of the sparkling pool and entertainment area. Over the next two

blissful days, opt to relax with a book, go for a walk or just enjoy one of the

many amenities that the lodge has to offer.

Page 6: 2021 | NAMIBIA · Namibia is a vast country and we will have travelled many long, dusty and gravel roads. Should you elect to avoid the bus journey back and prefer to return by air,

DAY 7: THURSDAY 08 JULYWe depart early this morning, driving southwards through the Namib

Naukluft Park.

We cannot miss the opportunity to sort the ‘wheat from the chaff’ and we

will stop along the way to challenge the bravest amongst you to make it to

top of the infamous Dune 7. If your legs fail you, you can cheer the brave

ones along. Those who make it to the top will be rewarded with an awe-

inspiring and breathtaking view.

Back on the road, we will stop at the remote ‘Solitaire’ (it looks like a

Western movie set!) for their famous apple pie and coffee, before

continuing to our accommodation for tonight - Lodge Hammerstein is an

absolute oasis after a long and exciting day.

Here, you have the opportunity to engage with tame caracals, leopards and

other animals in their enclosures.

Another delicious dinner awaits you this evening.

Swapkopmund. A visit to this historical town with its German architecture is

not to be missed.

and the leather shop that sells genuine “vellies” is also planned.

You have an hour or two to explore the town on your own and enjoy a cup

of ‘proper’ German coffee before our departure back to Walvis Bay where a

boat trip in search of pelicans, seals and dolphins awaits…. What an

adventure!

This evening, we head back to Swakopmund for a traditional German meal

of wiener schnitzel, kartoffel and sauerkraut at the legendary Brauhaus

Restaurant – you are very likely to gain a few pounds/kilos on this tour!

Rest and an early night is indicated to ‘recharge our batteries’ as we have an early start for the Fish River Canyon in the morning.

DAY 10: SUNDAY 11 JULYAfter a hearty breakfast, we depart for the second biggest canyon on earth,

the Fish River Canyon. We will share its history and how it was formed

millions of years ago. Scenic photographs are a guarantee and keep an eye

out for cheetah that are often spotted in the area. This truly magnificent

sight will stay with you forever!

En route, we make a stop to view the exquisite antiques and old

automobiles at the Canyon Road Lodge (and see who falls for the ‘Pandora’s

Box’ trap). Lunch will be enjoyed at the canyon.

Later today we cross the border into South Africa for our overnight stop at

our lodge in Upington. A welcoming fire and dinner await us on upon arrival

as we enjoy our last evening together.

Back at ‘Barrels’ we can look forward to another evening of fun, music and

good food.

DAY 9: SATURDAY 10 JULYWe depart early this morning to Gerrie’s personal favorite destination,

Kolmanskop. This abandoned ghost town, now engulfed by the desert, was

once a flourishing mining town and was home to mansions, bowling alleys,

an ice factory and many stories and legends. A regional expert and one of

the best guides in the area will accompany us and bring us up to speed on

the history of this long-forgotten town.

We also go in search of the Namib desert horses – our specialist guide will

tell us more about how they ended up in the desert and how they continue

to survive in this harsh environment. We will also have lunch here.

After lunch, we tackle the last leg of today’s journey to the ‘Birds Nest’ in

Keetmanshoop.
