This qualification is most suited to people who want to become an AIMS Certified Commercial Marine Surveyor™ for vessels up to 80 metres. It has a flexible approach to modules that will suit most surveyors and is able to be tailored to meet specific work or employment requirements.

The qualification allows for the inclusion of modules that specifically address the survey requirements for Australian domestic commercial vessels under the National Law as well as marine survey and inspection modules applicable to foreign going vessels and has electives that are required for accreditation as a Grain Surveyor.

Who can apply to do this qualification?

Some subjects in the qualification require you to carry out practical marine survey tasks and therefore to be eligible to undertake the course you must have your own access to a vessel that is unique to the marine survey sector that you wish to specialise in. Due to the nature of the course applications are only taken from;

• Existing AIMS members and External Marine Surveyors who wish to formalise their marine survey experience via a recognition and gap training process

• Seafarers holding Master Mariner Class 1 (Unlimited), Engineers and Deck Officers, and Near Coastal Masters and / or Marine Engine Drivers Grade

• Candidates with formal qualifications and experience as Boat Builders or Shipwrights
