Everyone is doing their bit to make the remote learning periods the best they can be. There are certain aspects of this current situation out of our control, so we must try to focus on the aspects we can control. Our children rely on us to provide a sense of calm and this is more important than ever at the moment. We understand that every family’s situation is different. We also understand if you need to take a day off the remote learning plan for the wellbeing of you and your family. Prioritise what matters most! A good news story circulating in the media today, is that the 2021 preliminary NAPLAN (National Assessment Program Literacy & Numeracy) results suggest Victorian students performed better than their counterparts from other states who engaged in much less remote learning in 2020. These results also showed that there has been no significant decline in the results between 2019 and 2021. This data matches the students achievement data we have collected at the school level. Next week, will see the introduction of 1:1 Webex meetings between teachers and students. Remote Learning planners for Week 8 were posted out to families yesterday. Again, I can’t thank the wonderful staff team we have here at SHPS enough. Their flexibility, adaptability and hard work is greatly appreciated. The level of parental support is also outstanding, along with the level of appreciation shown to us from our parents and carers. Thank you! It goes without saying, our students are fabulous also. At this stage, we are expected to return to face- to-face learning on Friday 3rd September. Keep your eyes on the Seesaw and Facebook updates. To Do List Return Swimming Permission Forms (Year 3) when onsite learning resumes. Plan Book Week Costume and send photo to your teacher. Physical distancing during COVID-19: What it means for your family

Physical distancing means more time at home with your family. And if you’re working, itmight mean that you’re balancing supervision of children’s learning, family time, and workcommitments.

make the most of family timeuse routines to support family health and wellbeingstay connected with others in creative waysmanage family conflict in positive ways.

This is a challenging experience. It can also be a positive experience if you can:

Physical distancing can give you more

opportunities to spend time together as a

family. And by spending more time

together as a family, you can build

relationships and help your children feel

happier, safer and more relaxed during

this experience.

If you’re working from home, you mightnot always have a lot of time during workhours. So it’s all about making the mostof the time you do have by giving yourchild positive attention and turningeveryday moments into quality time.

making eye contact and smiling at your childshowing your child lots of affection – this could be givingcuddles or elbow bumps if you’re comfortable to do this, orsaying ‘I love you’telling your child you’re proud of how they’re handling thesituationpraising your child for doing schoolwork or choresshowing interest in what your child has achieved each day.

Positive attentionYou can give your children plenty of positive attention, even duringbrief interactions. For example, positive attention can be:

a shared laugh when you’re bathing your toddlera chat while you’re folding the laundry with your preschooler or preparing dinner withyour pre-teen or teenage childan afternoon break from work so you and your child can make a snack together.

Quality timeDuring physical distancing, you can turn everyday moments into quality time. Qualitytime can be:

If you can, plan some regular, one-on-one time with each of your children. Children havedifferent personalities, and some children might seem to need less time than others – butthey’ll all benefit from special time with you during physical distancing.
