Eternal Father, Strong to Save V1-2,4The Faith We Sing #2191, Words: William Whiting, & Music: John Dykes
(v1) Eternal Father, strong to save,Whose arm has bound
the restless wave,
14
Who bid the mighty ocean deep its own appointed limits keep:O hear us when we cry to theeFor those in peril on the sea.
15
(v2) O Savior, whose almighty wordThe wind and waves
submissive heard,Who walked upon the foaming deep,
16
And calm amid its rage did sleep:O hear us when we cry to theeFor those in peril on the sea.
17
(v4) O Trinity of love and power,All travelers guard in danger’s hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,

Paul Sails for RomeAfter we had sailed across the sea that is off Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra in Lycia. There the centurion found an Alexandrian ship bound for Italy and put us on
22
board. We sailed slowly for a number of days and arrived with difficulty off Cnidus, and as the wind was against us, we sailed under the lee of Crete off Salmone.
23
Sailing past it with difficulty, we came to a place called Fair Havens, near the city of Lasea. But soon a violent wind, called the northeaster, rushed down from Crete.
24
Since the ship was caught and could not be turned head-on into the wind, we gave way to it and were driven. Just before daybreak, Paul urged all of them to take some
25
food, saying, “Today is the fourteenth day that you have been in suspense and remaining without food, having eaten nothing. Therefore I urge you to take some
26
food, for it will help you survive; for none of you will lose a hair from your heads.” After he had said this, he took bread; and giving thanks to God in the presence of

all, he broke it and began to eat. Then all of them were encouraged and took food for themselves. (We were in all two hundred seventy-six persons in the ship.)
28
In the morning they did not recognize the land, but they noticed a bay with a beach, on which they planned to run the ship ashore, if they could. But striking a
29
reef, they ran the ship aground; the bow stuck and remained immovable, but the stern was being broken up by the force of the waves. The soldiers’ plan was to
30
kill the prisoners, so that none might swim away and escape; but the centurion, wishing to save Paul, kept them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could
31
swim to jump overboard first and make for the land, and the rest to follow, some on planks and others on pieces of the ship. And so it was that all were brought safely to land. ***

Confession & Pardon
39
People: The path is straight, the way is narrow, the map to salvation is sure… and yet we have followed the wandering road. We are lured by our greed: Isn’t the grass greener over there?
40
We are tempted by sin’s dazzle: Let’s pull off at this tourist trap! We have no patience for the journey: Are we there yet? We do not love our fellow travelers: We zoom by the needy, eyes averted.
41
We blast the horn and cut others off, filled with road rage. We sheepishly confess that we have gone astray; we are burning rubber on the highway to hell. Hear our humble confessions…
(silent confessions)
42
Leader: Jesus, take the wheel of life, and guide us safely home. In the name of Christ, we are forgiven!People: Amen.***

that saved a wretch like me!
Amazing Grace v1-4UMC Red Hymnal #378, Words: John Newton, Music: Gilligan’s Island Theme Song Melody
58
I once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see.Was blind but now I see.
59
(v2) ‘Twas grace that taughtmy heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
60
How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed.The hour I first believed.
61
(v3) Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
62
‘Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.And grace will lead me home.
