Goal We look forward to the day when the Sunshine Kids Foundation will no longer need to exist. Until that time, the entire Sunshine Kids family is dedicated to providing the most exciting activities, trips and events for as many young cancer patients as possible.

Mission The Sunshine Kids Foundation adds quality of life to children with cancer by providing them with exciting, positive group activities, so they may once again do what Kids are meant to do...have fun and celebrate life!

2020 was a challenging year for The Sunshine Kids. COVID-19 had a big impact on our operations, but we were able to navigate through and provide some great opportunities and events for our Kids.

While we were unable to host the in-person national, regional, and local events that Sunshine Kids is so well known for, we were able to pivot and provide lots of fun virtual events that included question and answer sessions with celebrities, sports stars and so much more.

We also continued to work closely with all our hospital partners to provide support for our Kids and families fighting cancer at home and in the hospital.

One very bright note from 2020 was the promotion of our longtime Director of Children’s Services, Jennifer Wisler, to the position of Executive Director. Jennifer has been with The Sunshine Kids Foundation for over 20 years, and we are very excited about the future of the Foundation under her leadership.

On the same note, I would like to thank all of our staff who have done such an incredible job over the past 12 months keeping our organization moving forward and creating new and fun activities for all our kids until we can get back to our in-person events.

Finally, none of this could be accomplished without the continued support of our donors and volunteers. Your support always means so much to us, but especially during this past year.

Sunshine Kids hosted a variety of in-person and virtual events for children from across the United States and Canada throughout 2020.


2020 Spokesmen 2020 SpokesKids

Each year, young cancer patients are selected to represent Kids with cancer from across the country.We salute our 2020 SpokesKids for their support and commitment to the Sunshine Kids Foundation.

Throughout his Houston Astros career, Hall of Famer Craig Biggio has supported the Sunshine Kids Foundation. Since 2003, he has proudly served as the National Spokesperson helping to bring joy, laughter and smiles to countless Kids and their families. Together with his wife Patty, they have helped raise millions of dollars through a host of fundraising events making it possible to create more opportunities for children across the country.

J.K. Simmons has appeared in a diverse range of projects from motion pictures and television to the stage. He won the 2015 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of merciless jazz instructor Fletcher in “Whiplash,” as well as numerous other awards. He proudly wears his Sunshine Kid Pin at many of his awards ceremonies in support of Kids with cancer everywhere.

J.K. and his family have been long-time friends and supporters of the Sunshine Kids Foundation. Not only have he and his wife Michelle hosted the Kids in their home, but he has attended every activity and fundraiser his schedule has allowed.

The Sunshine Kids Foundation and family are proud of our four-star designation from Charity Navigator, America’s largest and most utilized independent evaluator of charities.

From the Executive DirectorDear Friends,

For nearly 40 years, The Sunshine Kids has been dedicated to providing once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to children with cancer that allow them to create much needed bonds and connections with kids, their same age, who understand what it is like to battle childhood cancer.

2020 was an unprecedented year for the Foundation. While challenging us to create new and engaging ways to meet our mission, it also highlighted that the Sunshine Kids is not just a place or an event, it is a community of kids and families bonding together to make it through what may be the most difficult time in their lives.

Once faced with the challenges of the global pandemic, we quickly adapted our programming to virtual events to make sure that all of our Sunshine Kids would be able to continue to connect. Kids participated in celebrity meet and greets, magic shows, dance parties, BINGO, arts and crafts, virtual camps and so much more. These events created a much-needed escape from the isolation and social challenges brought on by COVID-19. It is still about creating a safe environment where this sense

of community, acceptance and belonging can continue to grow… creating connections that allow our Sunshine Kids to know that they are not alone.

It has been an honor these past 23 years to support the Foundation as the Director of our Children’s Services, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside our incredible team of Sunshine Kids staff members to serve the Foundation in my new role as Executive Director. We look forward to what we can accomplish together in the coming years. I also want to thank our Board of Directors for their integrity and strength that continues to help guide us into the future.

As challenging as this past year has been, we are stronger than ever thanks to you, our donors, hospital partners, doctors, nurses and volunteers who work each and every day to help us realize the mission and goals of the Sunshine Kids Foundation. We see you. Thank you for continuing to partner with us to bring sunshine to young cancer patients everywhere. Our mission has not changed and we will not be deterred.

Lastly, to our Sunshine Kids families, I want to say that your courage and hope inspires us each and every day. We will always be here to love and support you throughout your battle and beyond.
