2020 NATIONAL BIKE TO WORK WEEK AND DAY
State College, PA – Fall is a great time to get out and ride, and we have lots of great reasons for you to get on your bike!
The third Friday in May is traditionally National Bike to Work Day, but this year the League of American Bicyclists moved the event to Tuesday, September 22, which coincides with International Car Free Day. Car Free Day is a worldwide event held every September 22nd that encourages greener methods of travel rather than driving alone by car. So, consider leaving your car behind on Tuesday and let pedal power fuel your ride. Visit Engage State College to learn more about Car Free Day and sign the Car Free Day Pledge Throughout the month of September, there are a variety of solo and virtual bike activities planned with extra events planned for National Bike to work Week which is September 21 – 27 this year. New to our bike event lineup is Centre County Bike and Munch. Anyone who rides their bike to an eating establishment in Centre County and buys some grub can enter to win a gift card to a local bike shop by submitting a selfie with their bike and the receipt to [email protected]. The best part is every visit to a restaurant qualifies you for another entry and increases your odds of winning. Matthew Cox, CentreBike President, says, “We wanted to make it simple and most cyclists have already biked to a restaurant and can enter and don’t even realize it! We want cyclists to enter every time they bike to an area eating establishment in Centre County. It is good for the environment, great exercise, and supports our area restaurants.”
The Centre Regional Planning Agency (CRPA) has also partnered with State College Borough, Ferguson Township, Centre Region Parks and Recreation, Schlow Centre Region Library, Centre Moves, Penn State Transportation Services, and CentreBike on the following events:
• Centre Region Family Bike Repair Station Scavenger Hunt
• Bike Month Bingo
• Bike Lingo Word Search
• Bike Chat
• Fall Bike Anywhere Friday
• Bike Your Park Day Bike Anywhere Friday is an event we do four times a year – winter, spring, summer, and fall. All you have to do is ride your bike to shop, to eat, or for recreation anytime on September 25, 2020 and register your ride by completing the form at Engage State College. Everyone that registers will be entered for a chance to win a $50 Bicycle Shop gift card!
